When OM stopped playing Alabama they were coached by Frank Thomas, and he was a very good coach and ha very good teams. However, in 1947 Red Drew took over, who was mediocre by Bama standards, and then after him Alabama suffered its worst three year run in the history of the program under Ears Whitworth.

So what you're telling me is that Ole Miss was too scared to play Alabama from 1945 until the SEC forced us to start playing them every year, even though this same time period includes 1947-1957, which Alabama compiled a terrifying record of 58-53-9?

Vaught never wanted to play Bama. That's a fact. Rationalize all you want. Its even been written about nationally. No tide hotty toddy win a end-of-the-year poll from one of 20 pollsters.

Two possibilities: You can either believe that 1944 was an anomaly in which two teams which historically did not play one another chose to play because, due to World War II, not enough teams were fielding schools, and then the next year the two schools, which weren't scheduled to play one another, returned to not playing one another.

Or you can believe that Ole Miss was so humiliated by losing a game in the midst of World War II, a game played by players either too young or physically unfit for military service, that Ole Miss said, “Hey we’re too scared to play this school that we haven’t historically played anyway.”

I realize this fits into your little self-serving theory that Ole Miss as an institution is a big fraidy cat. But why would Ole Miss be so humiliated by losing a game played by kids and invalids? Why would Ole Miss think that a game played by kids and invalids would be a harbinger of future results once the soldiers returned home and the kids and invalids returned to not playing football? Do you know of any evidence that, prior to the 1944 game, Ole Miss and Bama were supposed to play in 1945, 1946, etc.?

You might notice that your theory makes no sense. Then again, you're the one who first said that Vaught made the call to stop playing Bama because he kept getting beat by Bama. Then you changed it to Ole Miss, not Vaught, made the call to stop playing Bama. Now you're saying it's all because of a game played by scrubs in 1944 during World War II. Nothing about anything you've said makes any sense.

So, we were too scared to play Alabama from 1945-1963 (Alabama went 116-64-14 during this period), but we had no problem with playing Tennessee all but 4 years during the same period (Tennessee went 126-62-9)?

That makes a whole lot of sense.

I've read this whole thread with interest...

.. For some reason, to have you Rebel/Bear idiots chime in with all your compelling anecdotes that allow you to vividly re-live your history (re-living Ole Miss history is, of course, redundant. Because your university doesn't even pretend to have a present or future...your whole ethos is grounded in a glorious, misunderstood past)...it reinforces how much I hate everything you, your university & your football program stands for.

The War ended in Europe in July of 1945 and then the Pacific battles ended in August. But we still had troops deployed all over to clean up and monitor what was going on. So OM didnt just suddenly get some animals playing for them by September of 1945- so apparently still had invalids playing for them in '45 and '46 also.

Bama went 10-0 in 1945 btw....they had some pretty good invalids playing for them. OM clearly didnt want any

On the subject of playing away games in Jackson

Fahgeddaboudit. Anyone here go to that preseason Saints/Colts game in Jackson in 2006? It was the biggest Charlie Foxtrot I've ever been too. They sold 2-3 tickets for the same seats; traffic was so snarled that half the crowd couldn't get into the stadium--which had only two functioning entrances--until after halftime; it was sprinkling but the stadium officials decided that umbrellas were a potential "weapon" so they were confiscated at the gate, and you had to dig through a 10 foot pile of them after the game (most just left them). It was so bad Mayor Frank Melton apologized for the "debacle." Until Jackson has a functional government, I would never go to a game there in which a crowd of over 30,000 was anticipated.

I don’t really give much of a **** about Ole Miss history. I didn’t grow up as an Ole Miss fan and I don’t sit around harkening back to the days of yore. I’m not that guy. I do, however, very much give a **** about ridiculing obvious falsehoods conveyed by morons such as C34. This I enjoy. Perhaps he’s a hero to you. My apologies. Far better to put your faith in someone other than an unemployed guy who once coached some sport or other in junior high school and now devotes his entire life to attempting to establish himself as an internet expert on sports, the fine art of seduction and kicking ***.

The fact of the matter is C34 said that Vaught decided to quit playing Bama because “Vaught got tired of losing to them.” This was false. When it was shown to be false, he then changed his argument to Ole Miss (not Vaught) decided to stop playing Bama (whom Ole Miss didn’t play anyway), because of a game played by kids and invalids in 1944 in the midst of World War II, which makes absolutely no sense to anyone but him. If he would quit posting comically idiotic ****, I would quit ridiculing the comically idiotic **** that he posts. Since he’s physically incapable of doing so, he being a comical idiot, you may look forward to reading more of my posts.

coach34 is no hero to me...

..in fact, I pretty much loathe the guy. Having said that, I would take 100 coach34's over your goofy butt. To reiterate: I hate everything you hold dear. End of story.

Well that just doesn't make any sense. I just told you that the thing I hold dear is making fun of the guy you loathe. And nachos. I do hold nachos dear. I don't hold dear any of the things you apparently presume I hold dear.
