I rode up with my dad for the Maine game and our car broke down between Macon and Starkville. We were stranded on the side of the highway for about 2 or 3 hours until a wrecker came and picked us up and took us to GTR so we could rent a car.

We got to our seats right at kickoff instead of getting to campus several hours before the game. I remember thinking "thank goodness we left so early or we would have missed the game entirely." We might as well have stayed stranded on the highway instead of watch that debacle of a game.

So yes, we have come a very long way.

The worst thing was Croom saying he expected to lose; didn't he even say by 2 touchdowns?

I'm not saying we had great or even good talent on that team but we had folks who at least played in the CFL. I doubt anybody from Maine would've even made the team if they tried out for arena league.

And then he supposedly told LT that we were going to beat Flarda. The man was either a psychic or psychotic...

Right. It was the week after losing at home to UAB. Hell of a stretch by Croom

Lose to Auburn at home by 30, lose to Maine at home, 51-0 in Red Stick, lose at Vandy by 18, lose at home to UAB by 14, then beat #20 UF.

I want a rematch with Maine, on CBS primetime .... with Croom serving as their head coach.

I've been to a lot of bad games. Thank god (for reasons unknown) I was not at the Maine game.

Win against Florida was the last time the goal posts were torn down...

Lose to Auburn at home by 30, lose to Maine at home, 51-0 in Red Stick, lose at Vandy by 18, lose at home to UAB by 14, then beat #20 UF.

The new hinged goal posts were installed after that game... I still have a piece of that goal post somewhere around the house.

I've been to a lot of bad games. Thank god (for reasons unknown) I was not at the Maine game.

My first MSU game was the 3-2 game. I still ended up at State for some reason. I had been to 3 other SEC teams' games (all who won in hero fashion) and even had the chance to attend a Texas game in '04.

Still came to State after spending face value of $40 to see what has to be the worst game of modern day football.

Self loathing is what it is. I have to suffer, so that things like 8-4 seasons every few years with marquee wins over UAB and Troy get my rocks off. At least that's the only way I've been able to explain it to myself. Dear God, I love MSU... Like a battered woman lovers her abusive husband. Except this time I have reason to believe MSU's sobered up and found Jesus.

Was given premium seats from a big donor who went hunting instead. Tried to sell then just give away my good tickets and there were no takers.

I mainly went because I knew I could take my toddler without having to navigate a crowd. Kid is 15 now and still talks about that game.

3-2....best seats I've ever had while watching a game in DWS. I remember towards the end of it, when we knew we weren't going to score, people just stopped yelling all together, and we sat quietly just pissed off at the world knowing that some stupid Ole Miss person at work was gonna say something smart ***...and there was nothing we could do about it.

One of the few Croom games I stuck out until the end...

More out of morbid curiosity, and also holding out hope we'd win 4-3.

I was bartending in the Cotton District for the 3-2 game, one of the only games I missed all year...when the game was over and everyone headed back to the Cotton District it looked like a scene from The Walking Dead. People were not speaking, just mumbling obscenities under their breath. A lot of people had that "deer in the headlights" look in Starkville that night....Ill never forget that.

I was there. For some reason the only think I really remember about it was how empty the stadium was. There was not a damn soul there. That and losing, but I wasn't really surprised by that.

I watched us lose a lot of games under Felker and the latter years of the Sherrill era but nothing compares to Croom's pure, unadulterated ineptitude. Those players should get 4 more years of eligibility.

Yeah the Croom experiment was almost as bad as the Orgeron debacle. At least he took you guys bowling one year. I didn't really even enjoy the egg bowl in Croom's last game because it was such a mismatch. The rushing yard stat at the end (something like minus 72) reminded me of when you guys beat Florida in Starkville in 2000 (I think) and you held Steve Spurriers gators to almost minus 100 yards rushing for the day. You also had nearly 400 yards rushing yourselves. That 2000 state team still had one of my all time favorite one-two RB combinations. One was Dontae Walker but I forgot the other guys name.

I remember like it was last night yelling "At least there's still basketball season!" to the crowd crossing the bridge to the Cotton District and getting a big cheer out of it. Sobering to think how polar opposite things are now.

The classic psychosis of an MSU fan. Didn't we beat UF the next week?

No, we lost 51-0 at LSU the next week. And as soon as we came out of the portal at Tiger Stadium to find our seats, we saw a guy wearing a blue "Maine" shirt. We shook his hand and congratulated him on a troll well done.
