1990 national champs right? I still chuckle when I think about GA Tech winning a national title.

Yeah, that team won the NC with the senior class that Curry left them-------and the same thing happened at Bama.

Coincidence, or just more proof that football coaches didn't get the backing back then to win at UK in the SEC.

If Y'all don't pass much we may be able to keep y'all under 40 points :). Our defense we play is the bend bend bend and let them score. We hope by the 4 th quarter your offense would be out if gas. If you get to play Miami you have to blitz. We should have beat them but fumbled 2 times and they scored on both.
We haven't been that big of a passing threat although our QB really seems to be improving at the end of the season. Our offense generally has gotten better as the game goes on. We rotate 9 offensive lineman with virtually no drop off, our center being the only one who never takes a break. It's usually the 4th quarter when our bigger bruising back Benny Snell comes in. I'll refrain from discussing our defense since I'm not sure I have the stomach for it. Sometimes they make an amazing play and sometimes they whiff harder than Leisure Suit Larry.

3-4 weeks to prepare though helps.

Playing them in a bowl gives you an advantage dealing with their offense. But the one thing you can't simulate with your scout team is the speed. They are not a HUNH offense, but that option coming at you at their game speed isn't at the same speed your scout team can run at you. Then there is the constant cut blocking your DL has to deal with, one of Tech's key for success is get the DL on the ground to cut down on pursuit, just the treat of cut blocking slows your DL pursuit down,

We actually did a pretty decent job with their option offense, they hurt us with their passing game, that happens when you are selling out to stop the run. I think a Tech/UK matchup is an intriguing game and could be one of the better games in bowl season.

Order of team I would like to play if we indeed end up in the Tax Slayer Bowl

1. Miami - have always been my second team to cheer for growing up, would maybe help land stud south FL recruits. Would be a very exciting game. Speed at skill positions galore.

2. UNC - They have a fun team and win or lose, it will be a shootout.

3. Georgia Tech - only because I feel like Virginia Tech will handle us fairly easy.

4. Virginia Tech - See number 3 above.

I know we can play with Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. At the beginning of the year, I would have said different but we've gotten better enough to compete with teams on that level at least. It won't matter though, they'll both likely get put in a better bowl than us.

You don't have to have a great QB our defensive backs will play 10 yards off the receivers.
We can make any QB look good. We have a very young team we only have two Sr's on offense our center and QB. Our starting B-Back ( the one behind the QB is a true Fr.) He is one reason Marshall is leaving because he wanted more carries. our A-backs are all So's and one Jr. On the OL we have 2 true Fr, and 2 true So's. Our WR's 1 is a true So. the other a Jr.
I think it would be a good game .

I hate to say this and thanks for your info but ;you sound like a couple of our big time critics on here that were forever dissing Stoops.

Haven't heard much from them lately though.

Lived in Madison, Ga. in late fifties and early sixties and saw the Rambling Wreck play several times. Legendary Bobby Dodd was their coach then and a player first name 'Maxie' center/linebacker was one of the best I've ever seen play in college! CATS running back 'Bobby Cravens' played a outstanding game at Grant field and coach Dodd said on his TV show that 'Craven' young man is good as I've seen play this season. Also got to see Techs game with SMU who had a quarterback nick named 'Dandy Don'! At time I lived there coach Wally Butts UGA teams won most of the games with Georgia Tech.
Kinda wanted to play a big ten team but playing Tech is okay by me!

I love Tech have had season tickets since 1981. Living in Georgia we get very little love. I think coach Paul Johnson is the coach we need, Tech is not an easy place to coach.
I guess I'm like a lot of fans I can say something or joke about Tech but it does piss me off if some one else does it :). Fact is our best defensive game was VPI ( you know them as Virginia Tech but we here at GT know there is only one true Tech :).
I like CTR our DC but wish we would put more pressure on the QB.

Meh, I thought the comments were pretty split. There were maybe a handful of comments not wanting to play us and a few that give us props.
I'm in southeast Georgia and work with a few Tech fans. None of them are badmouthing UK in any way. They feel their triple option offense will give us problems, because it's something UK doesn't face, but they are also fully aware of the fact we beat the best double-threat QB in the country on his home turf last week. Add in that Tech's leading rusher is transferring before the bowl game, and there's plenty of reason for their fans to be concerned about facing UK.

It's the older Tech fans that have that sense of entitlement dating back to memories of Bobby Dodd's great teams of the 50s and Whack Hyder's battles with Rupp in basketball.

The two schools do have a bit of a connection in Homer Rice. Rice is a Kentuckian and was OC coach at UK in the mid 60s when we lead the SEC in passing (Rick Norton years). He later moved into administration and was athletic director at UNC before taking the AD job at Georgia Tech in the 1980s-90s. Homer Rice was highly successful revamping the entire Tech athletic department, and his model for student/athlete programs is still used throughout the nation today. His rebuilding lead to GT's football championship in 1990 plus he hired Bobby Cremins bringing basketball success in the ACC and a Final Four.

We already won our bowl game when we beat UL, anything else is just icing on the cake.

This is not true. All the guys I interact with would like a UK match up.

That must have been a reference to MBB. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Scroll down to the comments.

This Georgia Tech blog was analyzing their possible bowl game with UK and basically all their fans are saying they are above UK. Should get a better opponent etc.

They're already playing the "We have nothing to win/everything to lose playing UK" card. Saying no one would care about a win because UK isn't good and if UK pulls the upset on them, it makes them look really bad.

Seems like I have heard this reasoning before from another ACC school.
I saw them play Miami this year. Kentucky can put up a lot of points on their defense for sure.
