The number you personally want to see to be confident in Coach Holgorsen going forward.

Not what the University should expect but your personal number that would sway or continue for you to want and keep Coach Holgorsen.

I will say 8 is the absolute lowest depending on circumstances (already 3 defensive contributors lost) which should be factored in. 9 is my number I personally want to see based on the talent WVU has and I honestly believe that is reasonable.

Anything less than 8 and I'm not going to be very hopeful moving forward. WVU can be a 9-10 win team whether that's with Coach Holgorsen or not is yet to be seen.

P.S. I think a 4-0 start would definitely be enough to show the program is headed in the right direction, anything less than that and the chair is going to get warm.Starting 4-0 means you can go to Tech and get to 5-0 with TCU coming in. IMO this is exactly what needs to happen for everyone to get behind Coach Holgorsen.

His previous performances has lowered both my standards and expectations.

I say Holgs keeps his job with just 6 wins. Providing he gets the wins at Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas Tech and either BYU or Missouri. Warez

and If I'm right, it will be interesting to see if Holgs is retained. I would be fine either way, but who would we hire? Jeff Brohm maybe?

9+ wins no excuses. Outside of Oklahoma and Okie State every other team we play has series issues to address. You can talk about the problems on defense all you want but the big 12 is an offensive league with weak defenses.

This is getting silly. Like any of us swing a big enough stick to determine Dana's future.

If the money donors like him and want to keep him he stays, if not he goes. My guess is Lyons is on the same thin edge as Dana. That guy seems thick as a brick. I wouldn't trust him to hire a dog walker much less the next coach.

I agree. Three weeks ago I wouldn't have, but due to attrition of the defensive side of the ball that was inexperienced to begin with, WVU is going to have to cobble together something halfway respectable out of what's left. I don't know if they can.

It's years like this I miss Bill Kirlavich. Like him or not, you could give him a random handful of large young men, and he'd have them playing as a serviceable unit. I don't know how he pulled it off, maybe he locked their folks away in a warehouse in New Jersey until they got it down?

8 regular schedule and a bowl win...above and beyond that (perhaps very wishful thinking), and maybe Dana hits the road elsewhere regardless...the BYU and KST games loom large IMO. Need to win both...gotta get that K-State Mask to shut his flappin jaw finally...

Alas, there will always be excuses for under achieving DH. Mountaineers end 6-6 this year and there will be a chorus saying "pay him more and give him a 5-year extension!" If he goes 5-7 there will be the "injuries hurt us". IF the team goes 8-4 or 9-3 (regular season with a winning 5-4 conference record) then the noise will proclaim him as the best thing to ever hit WVU athletics. Don't get it. Never will. Maybe the "coach style points and coolness factor" means more than wins today. Just wonderin'

Root, what's wrong with the equation is it's gone from "How can I build a program?", to, " How big of a contract can my agent get me?"

Once Charlie Weiss hit the quinella at Notre Dame and Kansas, coaches wised up, "I can get a big contract, do a half-assed job, and keep all the loot when I get canned? Get me Charlies agent on the phone!" Throw in a potential TV deal and you're set for life.

When schools are football crazy and a coach comes along they're convinced is the next big thing, they throw money at them hand and fist. Who can blame the guy for taking the money? But you will get a lot of guys who are there too soon, or shouldn't be there to begin with.

I think Dana is one of the guys who got there too soon. If he'd spent some time in say the MAC, learning his trade and proving himself, he might have the chops. The way he came in here as coach in waiting, then having Stewart throwing his big hissy fit after agreeing to the deal, Dana was thrown from the frying pan into the fire. He was barely ready for the BE, he had a solid season his first year, then clocked Clemson in the bowl and the pockets opened. He's a mid-level Big 12 coach. A stint in the AAC with a few good years and he may be ready for prime time, but who really knows?

Being a hot football coach is the sports equivalent of being a high profile heart surgeon in 70's and 80's. Sure most of your patients croaked, but every top flight hospital in the country wanted you, offered huge contracts, and you were retired in one of your five houses by the time you were 50.

Human psychology and trends are interesting things. My big vice has always been cigars. I've been smoking them for decades. Most cigar makers made quality sticks but barely scraped by for years. In the mid 90's a guy started an upscale magazine about cigars. Cigars became trendy. These cigar makers, most of whom had never owned a suit, much less wore one in their lives, were going to Hollywood galas and being treated like God's Gift to The World. Prices when through the roof and these guys who had regular names before, all became "Don Yo-Yo" or whatever, and made a pile. Were the cigars any better? No, in fact they were much worse, as aged cigar tobacco supplies were quickly used up. It was crazy. It was a good 10 years before the quality of cigars matched what they were before.

People want what they see as the next great thing whether be football coaches or cigars or whatever. Once things reach the tipping point they'll pay out the *** for it and crow they've got shinola when all they've got is a handful of ****. When things finally settle down they find themselves stuck with the handful.

Bill didn't win any Fiesta bowl and you also know it, so stop. Bill was in over his head and hired poorly on the offensive side. Took the most potent offense in the country and reduced it to ****.

I liked Bill, met him on at least 5 different occasions. one of the nicest guys I've met that was a WVU coach and it has absolutely nothing to do with him being way over his head and not nearly qualified to be the HC at WVU.

As for Dana, I've met him almost as many times, Dana is a prick. My personal feelings on whether or not someone is a good coach is irrelevant, unlike you obviously.

Dana has under-performed here at WVu, no question about it, but I believe he was left a cupboard that had a few legitimate stars and no depth at any position and lacking in scholarship players. I think Dana improved last year and I'm hopeful he will this year as well.

Go back to drinking and lamenting over a whatever is up your ***.

Dana's Big 12 record was the same in 2012 as it was in 2015 so im not sure what improvement your talking about. Unless your referring to the win in the cactus bowl over a 6-6 Pac 12 scrub by 1 point.

I saw my post scrolling down the page. I was going to go out on the porch to have my first stogie of the day after doing a quick news check here. Then I remembered the wife is out of town. I can puff away in air conditioned splendor and pass gas in the house without getting yelled at. Life is good. Remember guys, it's the little blessings in life that count.

If her cats don't rat me out I'm golden. I've got food and water leverage on them. If they mew, I'm cutting off the kibbles. Let 'em eat bugs in the basement.

Brohm is not going to stay on the vine long. He just kept WKU moving after BP went back to Louisville for Round 2.

We start the season 1-2. the pressure will be on Lyons to pull the trigger on Holgs. Holgs' MO over the years has been to beat someone not expected and lose a game that we were not supposed to lose. The only way Holgs stays is he MUST win 8 games and win his bowl game.

My guess is he's forgets all his other aliases from inhaling pickle fumes, Steelhead? Texas is where he lives, forveveer reminds him of what he is and how long he plans on keeping it. Easy to remember and efficient. It's the kind of thinking that made him The Pickle King he is today. He's a shining example to us all.

With our injury problems on defense, realistically, I see 7 wins.

Optimistic prediction...8 wins.

More than 8 wins would put Holgs and Gibby in the genius category.

Less than 7 wins: bye bye Holgs.

I would agree. 9 wins, a winning conference record and at least one win vs a top 25 opponent that finishes with a winning record of its own. In considering shaping our long-term future, I'd evaluate all seasons since joining the BXII & not just 2016.

Absolutely must beat Youngstown St, KU & I-State. He needs a win over K-State badly as well, but they return 16 starters I think. Do that, get 9 wins as described & offer a modest extension including a non-negotiable buyout. Lucks not in charge & no more one-sided deal making.

I wasn't speaking ill of the dead. He was a great guy that was hired by his buddy EP on a celebratory night after a great win.

He was not qualified to be the HC. He had been a journeyman rah rah coach that was great for moral and the locker room. Thats just who he was, liked by most everyone that came into contact with him.

I really liked that Daron Roberts guy too, remember him? Yeah he had no business being a corner backs coach either. Its not speaking ill, its just the truth of the matter.
