Don’t look now, RU tied for 11th of 18 in the B1G right now, after already playing 3 of The top 4 teams in the first 6 games. For those who said this team wouldn’t compete, go 0-for, etc.
Actually we are tied for 12th.

but we have 2 wins at home in OT against 2 of the worst team so there’s that

All 3 road losses were blowouts

Watching a sports channel and heard Bobby Hurley at ASU probably gone after this year. Not a big Hurley family fan but, if true, would be interesting to see how this could play out for Rutgers. I am still pro Pikiell but.....

Thoughts?

I’d hate to think it would have any affect on Rutgers. Can’t stand Hurley, all he does is whine. He’s gotten where he is because of his name, not his ability. When Rutgers eventually moves on from Pikiell, Zinn will need to replace him with someone with a track record of success and Bobby Hurley doesn’t fit the bill.

I like the positive attitude, but realistically, our ceiling is four more wins. I think we'll get 3 more and finish 5-15 in league play.

Just asking...That is my opinion too.

However, ASU has never been a college basketball juggernaut.

I wouldnt mind Hurley at all. Clearly a fish out of water in Arizona and the move to the Big 12 with jyggernauts hurt as opposed to the middling Pac 10

He is intruguing because he has had some level of success and would be the biggest name coach here ever. That could open doors to NIL and corporate money that perhaps someone from a small school wouldnt be able to attract

Has he though? His best finish is 49 in KenPom, Pike’s beaten that 3 times, which doesn’t include the 2021-22 tourney team.

Not necessarily my favorite choice, but Speedy Claxton checks a lot of boxes if he holds out another year. Interested in Tony Skinn, Brian Earl and Jim Groce — might be good value there with the Illinois stink

I dont see why kenpom is relevant at all but Bobby is 2-3 winning 2 first 4 games at Asu and 0-1 at Buffalo vs Pikes 1-2 and 0-1

Bobby is only 4 years younger than Pikes but seems way more energetic and equipped to handle NIL. To me its an upgrade if you arent willing to roll the dice on a young guy with no experience at a major program. The experience factor is critical for me

Sorry Groce shouldnt even be considered

Speedy Claxton has never been to ncaa tourney and is fading at Hofstra

Skinn at GM is interesting but only third year head coach. I do like Caputo at GW

Brian Earl has done nothing yet

Probably not much point thinking about it now that we beat NW and Oregon. He might not even be fired if he loses out, but if he gets to that 12ish level, Pike will get another year and the hot board when we’re actually in the market will look completely different.

If Tate and Zinn can not keep him if they are serious about athletics. We beat a tired Oregon on the last day of a 3 game east trip. We beat NW in OT and it took them turning it over in regulation late w the lead.

Reality is…

1) we beat 2 teams at home who are combined 1-11 in big ten
2) one of those teams was down their best player and we won in overtime
3) there is substantial tape on Francis and today is an example of what good scouting can do against him similar to seton hall game etc
4) if most of the games look like this even if we win 4-5 more games you can’t bring Steve back

If he wins 12 he’ll be here next season. Like it or not. I see almost no way he doesn’t get another year in that case. If he wins 0-2 the rest of the way that’s where it gets dicey.

francis isn’t going to be on fire every game. Nobody is. Not realistic.

Teams are going to focus on Francis and then other guys have to hit shots which opens things up for Tariq which we saw in the second half. We have no inside game at all right now which obviously keeps our ceiling down. But if he can add that - the team would be better. That, and some defense at the 3-4 to be there on help for the guards.
