1) Momentum is a ***** we all love and hate, depending on her mood. The blocked field goal paired with Bama scoring on their first 2 drives broke us. From that point on, each little mistake we made continue to bring us down. We needed something to go our way early or it would get ugly and it did. I don't buy that Bama is 24-31 points better than us, just like I don't buy that we were 42 points better than MTSU last week. We just let ourselves get completely intimidated. It was completely over when we got the fair catch interference rule plus Mullen's unsportsmanlike conduct followed by a Bama score. From that point on Bama, or maybe any top 10 team, could have scored 100 on us. Need to improve on our mental toughness.
2) Tackles and ends. I guess this is what Vegas saw we didn't have enough of and Bama had close to the best in college football. What recruits do we have coming in?
3) With the defensive linemen Bama had, and with the game film from the Mississippi game, I am a little confused why we didn't pass more. And when we did, why did we didn't we keep our RB in the backfield with Russell more?
4) Bama special teams know how to put the helmet on the ball when tackling from behind. That's coaching, not talent.
5) Positives include several impressive passes by Russell and catches by our receivers. That's about it unless I am forgetting something.
6) Bama has some weakness in their secondary. And in McCarran's legs. Don't think LSU won't put a few good hits on AJ because LSU can't pass worth a crap. If he goes down, I would say Bama's championship run is over, they basically become a 1 dimensional running team. Back when we were a more undisciplined team, we would have put a shot on AJ last night, even with a late hit. I would expect to see LSU do the same next week.
7) I'd focus the rest of the season on continuing to build toward finishing as a top 10 football program. We are on the outside looking in on that one, and we have some more tests that I hope we pass.
