We had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful Rustburg Football Stadium on Friday night. What a beautiful setting. Tree lined and nestled below the nearby hills. My traveling companion Bleeding Navy had been to the stadium previously but he was still duly impressed As well.

Rustburg played with a lot of heart, but Glass just had too much speed. And the Glass defense was aggressive in pursuit of the ball carrier. They tackled with a vengeance. Navy was highly impressed with the passing ability of the Glass QB. He had a good arm, and was spot on with most of his passes. #21 for Glass is a heck of a player, but he needs to dial his aggression back a notch. He hurt his team at least twice with personal foul penalties. It didn't affect the outcome last night, but in close games, and typically during playoff games, it can mean the difference between winning and losing.

If I had any one criticism of my Rustburg experience, it would be the single “slow” entry gate. Knowing from experience how difficult it can be to find workers of some Friday nights, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Also, I do believe that this is the only football game that I have been to that did not have a separate pass gate. I found that strange. Having said that, when we finally got to the gate, the ladies working the gate were very friendly.

And speaking of friendly, the lady at the concession stand was a hoot. I’m sure she is a regular because she seemed to know everybody. Small things like the way people are treated, like in these two incidents, goes a long way to developing a positive reputation, and setting the right example for the kids. After all, that is what it’s supposed to be about, doing the right thing for the kids.

Navy and I are sacrificing ourselves for the good of the readers here on Preps, by sampling and rating the food, especially the hot dogs, everywhere that we travel to a game. It’s a thought dirty job, but somebody has to do it. We found the hot dogs at Rustburg excellent. We would give them four out of five stars. And we are saving a five star rating for a hot dog that may not even exist. That tells you how good they are.

We had a great time, loved the atmosphere, and were impressed by the extensive recognition of the seniors on senior night. (But, the announcer did get a tad long winded). We thank you for the hospitality, and wish the Rustburg team nothing but the best in the future.

#21 is a vocal player, but for some reason a lot of that was directed toward the Rustburg sideline. Very uncharacteristic of him. He is a good kid and he’s having a great season particularly the last 2 games.

Glass is still penalized wayyy to much and the penalties won’t help them from here on out as they face Brookville, then LCA, then playoffs.

#21 only had one penalty. He is a very passionate player. He plays the game the way it's supposed to be played, with passion, intensity, and tenacity. He is one of the unquestioned leaders for Glass. I doubt his coaches or teammates would say he needs to dial his aggression back. His aggression is what makes him such a good player.

I went to the game. # 21 for Glass should have been ejected for his behavior. Even getting up in officials face a couple of times. Being agressive is good, but you can' do the things he was doing. Dinwidde, I live a half mile from Rustburg High on Rt. 24. You drove right by my house twice. Wish I had known you were going. Glass had almost no fan support Friday at Rustburg.

Fan support for Glass and Heritage is almost non existent. I remember standing room only in the 70's for Glass.

Exactly what was his "behavior" and "the things he was doing?"

Seems that way!
I have been absent from posting on this board for several years and plan to exit quickly, but since my name was included in @DinwiddieProud review and I was at the game I thought I would offer a take. How in the world did this turn into a "good old boy" thing?

First, @VolNation85, you have been on this board quite a while. I ask you when have you ever known DP to call out a kid or even remotely be disrespectful to anyone? Bet you can't find anything or anytime. The statement made "#21 for Glass is a heck of a player, but he needs to dial his aggression back a notch. He hurt his team at least twice with personal foul penalties. It didn't affect the outcome last night, but in close games, and typically during playoff games, it can mean the difference between winning and losing" was simply an observation/opinion of a few plays. I do not know if you were at the game or watched it on video, but their was a play where #21 took the ball down the Rustburg sidelines he was tackled out of bounds and some scuffling and what appeared to be an exchange of words between the parties. A yellow hanky was thrown and the referee (white hat) signaled to the press box a personal foul and dead ball unsportsmanlike penalty. I am not sure if #21 received both penalties, but that's probably where the discrepancy regarding the flags exist. For all I know it could have been holding or something else, but EC Glass was penalized 30+yards in that one sequence and we did discuss if it was possible #21 got both fouls. Subsequently, the team was penalized on the next play. (40 yards in two plays).

Second, #21 is a very fine player (DP said the same in his statement) who hits very hard for his size. He made some tremendous plays and stood out as gamechanger. I have no problem with a player getting fired up after a big play and #21 was certainly highly animated several times. I think this may be the other point in question. On one play where #21 somehow quickly shed blockers and got to the ball flattening the Rustburg rb (#3) in his tracks. After the play #21 did his thing and then pointed to the Rustburg bench. Right or wrong it created a strong reaction from the Rustburg sideline and fans. @lyhsports actually referred to the trash talking (possible sarcasm) between the parties and I agree as it did look like #21 and the Rustburg sideline (one coach in particular) exchanged words numerous times. No disrespect to the great fans at Rustburg, but you would think grown men would behave it bit better. Coaches should never bark at the other teams players.

Honestly, DP may have stated "he needs to dial his aggression back a notch" incorrectly, but not maliciously. Not once did he say the kid was undisciplined or even disrespectful. I totally agree that football is an aggressive sport and if you do not play with intensity then you need to stay on the sidelines. Have we gotten so sensitive that one cannot make a football related observation without it becoming a racial debate.

In closing let me state that I did enjoy the the first half of the game. EC Glass is very good team. I can only assume their struggles on defense against GW and Heritage was directly related to the talent on the other side of the ball. I thought the EC Glass front seven was solid and the defensive backs did not allow the Red Devil receivers to get any separation. I have to admit I was not impressed with Rustburg's bland offense, but again it was likely a result of the talent on the EC Glass side of the ball. Offensively, EC Glass was three gears better than Rustburg's defense. Really enjoyed watching the EC Glass qb operate. He is surely in tune with his receivers who can beat you deep at anytime.

I hope this may have cleared up a few things. Again, its just my own observation/opinion. @DinwiddieProud is a good old dude. He genuinely loves everyone and simply enjoys going to different football venues and watching games.

Fact is, what’s the difference in calling someone the Good ole boys and calling a child overly aggressive and bringing his character into place? It doesn’t feel good to have someone label you does it? Fact is, there’s a history of posters calling out black student athletes on this board. I also think it’s strange that K’Vaunghn Pope was labeled such a great kid while he was winning Dinwiddie ball games but after his “meltdown”, didn’t see one positive thing about his character from any of you Dinwiddie guys. Just saying. I’m removing myself from this conversation.

I am not going to get into a pissing contest with you @BoKnowsSports (aka DanvilleSportsHead). I don't feel anything. I didn't say an unkind word about anyone. I simply reported what I saw. In fact, I pointed the finger at the Rustburg coaches. Hmmm..., Why are you bringing negative attention to Pope on this post and why would we go public with our support of a member of the Dinwiddie family. I find it interesting how you stick your nose into so many post with the intent to instigate. I quit posting, because of these types of rants and the fear of losing my job over false racial claims. I don't care about posting on Preps. Its not my addiction like it is yours. If you have anything further to say be a man and show up on November 1, 2021 ,so can sit down and calmly discuss your beef in person. I don't know what happened to the dude I once liked and respected. Bitterness is a terrible thing.

Later all. To infinity and beyond.

It certainly would have been nice to see you. The next time we head that way, I’ll let you know. I may get your way again soon on business anyway. We have a small contract that will keep us in the general area for about a month or two. Nothing major, just changing meter bases for Dominion Energy. DE is switching out all of their meters to a new digital meter, and some bases will not accept the new meters. I typically won’t need to travel out there, but I look for any excuse that I can find to get out of the office. I’ll let you know. I’ll send you a DM with my phone number.

I’m sorry this thread got off topic. That distracted from my/our message that we had a great time. Beautiful stadium. Wonderful people. And have I mentioned, GREAT HOT DOGS!!!☺️

I appreciate your thread and opinion. I will address your comment about things becoming a racial debate. First, I have no idea who @DP is, yet alone his ethnicity or skin color so I never thought or assumed anything he said was race related. My understanding of the term "Good Ole boy" is that it is in regards to the way someone is supposed to conduct themselves. If a person does not conduct themselves in a certain manner then they are not consider to be acting "good." I didn't realize there was racial undertones connected to the words "Good ole boy.'

I went to a Heritage a couple years ago at City Stadium. I counted about 35 fans at the most on the Heritage side. Same deal with basketball. No fan support at all.
