Another pennant for the dugout!

Can't wait to see Tony Plush's next tweet. Good to see someone who plays the game the wrong way get their just desserts.

I'm glad Roenicke decided to go with Marcum over Gallardo and then come back with Wolf. LaRussa out coached him all series long.

Now, they've got to win four more.

Great job by the Cardinals and all of their players.

He said this is what happens when you anger the baseball gods.

His little tweet didn't bother me as much as the fact that last year he intentionally tried to hurt Bryan Anderson- the Cardinals third catcher- for no good reason, and then after he does all of his beast mode ********, he gets upset at Chris Carpenter for "cussing" at him after he struck him out and tried to charge the mound in Sept.

If you're going to dance around and act like a tool, don't get upset when someone else shows you up.

He cost the Brewers big time tonight when he missed the cut off man early in the game- it ended up costing them two runs and kind of put the game out of reach. I imagine we'll see his *** in Florida, Toronto, AAA, or Japan after his act wears thin in a couple of years. The Pirates and Nationals have already dumped him.

Actually, hitting the cut off man seems to be a pretty foreign concept to the Brewers outfielders in general- looking at you Corey Hart.

GO RANGERS!

Also, something I've been wondering lately, is why do there seem to be so many Cards fans around here? I mean, I suppose it's no farther away than Atlanta, but if I'm going to pick one, I pick the one I consider "southern" (Missouri being midwest all the way as far as i can tell). Perhaps it's partly because nearby Memphis is home to a Cardinals farm league team, but then again, we have the Mississippi Braves. Am I just crazy, or does St. Louis seem to be oddly popular in Mississippi?

Memphis has been a Cardinal town for a very long time. Back in the day the Cardinals were the only team you could listen to on the radio. For many years they were also the closest professional sports franchise to Memphis.

Back in the 80's I knew 2 Brave's fans. A guy I played baseball with and his dad. When they started their run in the 90s the damn bandwagon filled up.

With the Mavs winning the NBA title, the Rangers winning the World Series, and America's Team winning the Super Bowl (after they make their late-season run), Dallas will henceforth be known as "Titletown".

Back in the 40s-50s when that meant something. Most of us card fans in this area got it from grandparents who spent many evenings passing the time listening to Stan, Gibby, Red, Lou..etc. Jack Buck deserves the credit as much as the players

during the slump. He stuck w/the youngins and now we've got a nice pen and looks good beyond. Now, gotta resign Albert and get Tony back for a couple and perhaps add a starting pitcher (better) to the rotation

...North Mississippi. There used to be several stations carrying Cardinals games in Northeast Mississippi and the Delta, but Tupelo has the only one currently in-state. In Northwest Mississippi, you can hear the Cardinals out of either Memphis or Helena, not to mention KMOX from St. Louis at night (see the map below). Plus lots of the Cardinals TV Network games are onFox Sports South.

The Birds had more minor league teams than anyone in the old days and in the pre-draft days signed lots of players from the lower Mississippi Valley. Two Rookies-of-the-Year were born within 100 miles of Memphis (Don Blasingame of Corinth and Wally Moon from NE Arkansas), and Tim McCarver was a "bonus baby" out of Memphis. East and Central Mississippi may have become Braves country (see 2nd map below), but Northwest Mississippi is still for St. Louis. And 18 NL pennants and 10 World Series titles (and pending), which are both in the Top 2-4 in MLB history, doesn't hurt.

for doing all this again. We need to keep those bats hot and be the team the Giants were last year when we faced them. The all star game determining home field for the world series is 17ing stupid. I never thought we had enough pitching to get through but our bullpen has been solid real solid. Nelly well what else to say about him other than 6 dingers in one series. Two beinggame winners. Cabrera is in the same neighborhood as Pujols so our pitchers have seen some great hitters. Should be a great series. We've split with verlander so...he's about the best out there. Hell that kid from Tampa Matt Moore shut us down more than anyone else.

On a side bar, I keep hearing nolan ryan/john daniels are going to throw big money at CC end of year. Word around the campfire is CC wants to move closer to his california home. Surely all heresay.

...from Wikipedia:

Caray caught his break when he landed the job with the Cardinals in 1945 and, according to several histories of the franchise, proved as expert at selling the sponsor's beer as he'd been in selling the Cardinals on KMOX. (Caray and broadcast partner Gabby Street also called games for the St. Louis Browns in 1945-46.) Caray was also seen as influential enough that he could affect team personnel moves; Cardinals historian Peter Golenbock (in The Spirit of St. Louis: A History of the St. Louis Cardinals and Browns) has suggested Caray may have had a partial hand in the maneuvering that led to the exit of general manager Bing Devine, the man who had assembled the team that won the 1964 World Series, and of field manager Johnny Keane, whose rumored successor, Leo Durocher (the succession didn't pan out), was believed to have been supported by Caray for the job. Caray, however, stated in his autobiography that he liked Johnny Keane as a manager, and didn't want to be involved in Keane's dismissal.[3] As the Cardinals' announcer, Caray broadcast three World Series (1964, 1967, and 1968) on NBC. In November 1968 Caray was nearly killed after being struck by an automobile while crossing a street in St. Louis; he suffered two broken legs in the accident, but recuperated in time to return to the broadcast booth for the start of the 1969 season.

After the 1969 season, Caray was unexpectedly fired as the Cardinals' lead broadcaster (his broadcast partner Jack Buck replaced him). Golenbock, other Cardinal historians, and Caray's former wife have suggested the cause was a purported affair Caray had with the daughter-in-law of Cardinals owner August A. Busch, Jr. (who also owned Anheuser-Busch brewery, the club's broadcast sponsor); Caray first called it a business grudge while never necessarily denying or affirming the rumors. He was with the St. Louis Cardinals for 25 years, his longest tenure with any sports team.

The Cardinals were at one time the most Southern, and at times when the A's were in Philadelphia, most western baseball team in the US. Thus, they were the closest, and since they had the wide ranging radio broadcast, they could reach a ton of people that weren't anywhere near St. Louis.

They've also won a lot too- that helps. And they've had great players over the years that were popular- Hornsby, Dizzy Dean, Musial, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Ozzie Smith, Mark McGwire, and now Pujols.

The Cardinals also typically play a good brand of baseball- usually they play pretty hard, have good pitching, good defense, and they have some power and can make things happen on the bases. Baseball fans in general usually like to watch that.

Of course, in my case, my Dad is from Missouri, and as everyone knows my uncle used to pitch for them. When I was little, he would give me Cardinals shirts, and etc. and when I was little, my family would take me to some games when we were visiting family there. I would be a Cardinals fan if I lived in Alaska. My Dad and my uncle are why I love baseball so much. Also- my parents would take me Dudy-Noble Field as well, and when MSU would play in Jackson, my Dad would take me to that. We would watch the Jackson Mets too when my Mom was playing bunko. If my uncle had pitched for the Expos, I would probably be a Expos fan.

St. Louis is unique in that the baseball team is so vital to the city and so many people support it. To me, that's what makes it special, and what makes the Cardinals unique. Everyone wears red, everyone gets into it, and everyone just has a good time with it. There is a reason why you hear so many baseball players talk about wanting to play there and how they enjoy playing there. They also have a good rivalry with the Cubs, which I think also adds intrigue and attention to the team as well.

Finally- St. Louis is only seven-eight hours from Jackson, Ms. That's about the same distance as Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, etc. So, it's not like it's that far off. And to me, it's actually easier to get to and drive through than those three cities.

of the two possible matchups, this is the more favorable one for the Rangers... the starting pitching leaves a lot to be desired (obviously) but the Cards aren't exactly Murderers Row so I *think* they will be ok.. of course I thought that last year when they got beat by freakin Cody Ross.. well that and Lincecum getting pitches 6 inches off the plate.
They can't possibly hit as poorly as they did last year in this series.. at least I hope not

until Ted Turner bought his own broadcasting company. Being in my mid-forties and living in Tupelo, it was all about the Cardinals when I was coming up.

I'm a Cards fan because I moved here this summer after I graduated from State and got a job here. I literally live 5 minutes from the stadium and have slowly become a fan (my parents also moved here 5 years ago and live in the city, as well). I'm not the type of person who instantly acts like a super fan, but I knew I was a "fan" when I started getting nervous during games.

I think MS/Memphis has a lot of Cards fans because it's simply not that far. From Starkville it takes 6.5 hours and only 4 from Memphis. Add in the Memphis Redbirds and there you go.

And now I'm hoping one of my good friend's dad can use his connections and get me tickets for Wednesday or Thursday night (I'm looking at you, redbird4state).

Been a Cards fan since birth. Born and raised in SE Missouri. Dad has had season tickets for 15+ years. I've been extremely lucky when it comes to going to Cards games ('04 WS, '06 WS, '09 all star game, and tons of other great games). My grandmother may be the biggest fan of us all. She has a collection of notebooks that she keeps scores from each game, winning pitchers, who hit HR's, etc that goes back years and years. Unfortunately I recently moved to New Orleans and can't make it to any games this go 'round. If you're close enough to go and don't mind spending the money, go to a game. Seeing them clich the 2006 WS was one of the most awesome nights of my life.
