I think the alums want Butch Davis back , but would be ok with Gary. Not sure what their budget would be but you got to believe Memphis' Fuentes and Houston's Hermann will get consideration.

Hey, Steve Spurrier is available, the ACC is a lot easier than the SEC , and he's done ok in his past in that state, lol.

Miami needs a WOW me type coach. I honestly believe that if the timing was right Charlie Strong would have be perfect for the Miami job.

I never got the Al Golden hire in the first place. If you look at his two winning seasons at Temple, he had no signature wins and some WTF losses during those two winning seasons.

We should hire him immediately.

I wonder what color tie he'll wear next.

He won't sniff another P5 job again. He was getting embarrassed weekly at Miami of all places. He is a fraud whose ability finall caught up with his salesmanship.

Hope keeping his best friend as a non qualified Defensive Coordinator was worth it... Idiot. Hell, TEMPLE is better without Golden/D'Onofrio.

He will get a coordinator job somewhere. Randy Shannon did worse that Golden, and he got a job.

Nobody did as bad as Golden at Miami, punctuated with their worst loss in history yesterday.

He might get a coordinator job...at the MAC level. He is simply a bad football coach.

Donofrio would ever be allowed near Rutgers after what did before he left as an assistant.

Miami isn't coming back until they build a stadium back closer to the school. A stadium that is a concrete box like the O bowl and make teams fear heading down into Dade County.

Now? The U plays away game an neutral site games.

At least the talking heads are starting to pound this drum.

This has to be one of the weirdest seasons with all the in season resignations and firings. I can't remember so many in season, pretty unusual. Is this just an aberration or a start of a new trend?

I think this is how it is now. These guys make so much money and results are expected almost immediately. What used to be considered five years as being a fair amount of time, is now four, and in some cases three.

Whenever I've read their boards in the past, the longing for Butch Davis is apparent and he's usually mentioned multiple times.

Golden's contract ran through 2019-2020 I think so a little surprised they let him go despite the performance, maybe someone stepped up to pay it off.

I prefer a spread offense in general but with all that speed and talent in Florida I'd even think it moreso. Golden moved towards it a little this year.

Yea could be. I still think 3 years is the usual minimum but the trend of in season firing is a little surprising versus waiting til the offseason. I guess why wait for the inevitable if it's going to be done anyway. Jeremy Foley made a comment like that when he let Zook go.

I've repeated this many times here. They do get paid too much money considering short term results. I'm fine with letting coaches go if they're so desperate to leave. More times than not you're not letting much go out the door, occasionally maybe you do lose that next great coach but I think the odds are in your favor that you're not losing anything special.

To me it's bad business to commit big money over the long term based only on short term results. Too many itchy AD fingers looking to extend and boost contracts just on a year's success. Wait for some consistency first and then by all means do so. Even then I'd never go out 7,8,9,10 years which is what some of these schools do. That's just crazy to project out that far. Some of these schools are money bags so it might not matter but for ones who aren't, it's bad business IMO.

That's why Barchi is such a genius, and Rutgers does not have to resort to mid-season firings because we pay our coach peanuts and it is OK to tread water.

Golden is a lesson for us Rutgers. the administration stood by him when the fanbase was calling for his head many moons ago. they could have already been building, now they're three steps back.

but look at what happened... the fanbase is what pushed the move mid-season apparently. the twitter outcry, the booing in stadium, and prominent boosters came together to force miami's hand.

Before anyone knocks al golden...he got the program and then went on probation

He rexruitied better than his record with no stadium and no home field advantage

Miami was a national power when they recruited nationally. They aren't a national program anymore....and this was the issue for both golden and his predessor

Serious question/hypothetical. This year or next year, we look to hire a coach--would you give him a shot?

Schiano is not getting the Miami job. Not after the Bucs fiasco.
Good one mal ,we know what you're thinking by saying GS won't get the U job.
Guess you e-mailed Julie to let her know the U's looking so she better go after

before the U does.

Let the Schiano to Miami talk begin...
i don't get it....why buy the same real estate twice....GS and Al Golden are the same stlye Jersey guy coaches..I'd think they'd look for a different style/area speciality HC.....why focus on an east coast guy again with Jersey /Pennsy roots..try a new direction.

I'll stick with you baby for a thousand years
Nothing's gonna touch you in these Golden years

He does have a solid rep as a recruiter. Thought I saw somewhere that NJ is prime territory
