I saw where BW was selected to the USA Collegiate team yesterday......Stratton nominated for national pitcher of the year....

Mississippi has the highest batting average in the SEC right now at .313 and i don't know where we rank in the SEC but we are batting a whopping .195 over the last 4 games.....


I hate it for Stratton... our team has got to learn how to hit....

and they lost to Memphis Tuesday night. They are 9-9 in the SEC. Not sure why people are acting like they are unbeatable.

Yeah, they have the highest batting average in the SEC. But they haven't scored any more runs than we have (we've both scored 84 in 18 games). They're not a good offensive team at all, and as you mention, our pitching is better. I think we have a very good chance to take 2 this weekend.

They have his number. I think he gave up many runs in the first and if i recall correctly he was pulled in the 2nd or 3rd. One of our only losses to Ole Miss at all last year. Hopefully Stratton will continue to be his normal self tonight and rock fire!

I think it will be close, because of stratton.....be we can't win if we don't score.....good pitching vs. bad hitting gives me my doubts about tonight.....

but they have underperformed a little. This is far from Bianco's best coaching job. One of their big HR guys cant hit in SEC play, Golsen couldnt hit water if he fell out of a f'ing boat. Their SP is very good- RP has struggled.

Should be an interesting series- tonight is they key for us

Ole Miss is better overall at every position besides 3b, CF, and RP. The key being RP which has lost numerous games this year. The weekend starters only combine for 5 losses on the year.

why have both teams scored exactly the same number of runs in SEC games? We're not a very good team at all except for our pitching staff. But Mississippi really isn't much better.

I would rather have Hunter Renfroe in my outfield than most. Capable of getting on a hitting streak and probably has thrown more people out this year than anyone in NCAA (complete guess clearly, but it's been ridiculous).

I also love Adam Frazier, wish we had a shortstop so that he could play 2b. I look for him to get on base a lot this weekend - been on a little slump, but I think he gets it together.

That's 5-2-1 based on talent, defense, and offensive production.

State is better at clutch hitting. Ole Miss leads the hits category 191 to 143. Also leads the 2b, 3b, HR, SO, and SB categories. BUT State leads the walks category by 34. That's huge. Offensive philosophies are different. Looks like Cohen may be getting more with less at the moment.

Schedule is pretty even. State's played LSU and SC. OM has played Kentucky and Florida. I'd say thats a draw.

I think you'll see them move up significantly when they finish with us, Tenn, and Vandy as 3 of their last 4. We'll dip after playing them, KY, adn Fla as 3 of our last 4.

Like I've said, similar staffs. 2 strong starters and questionable bullpens.

The main difference between the 2 teams is Snyder and Yarbrough. We just don't have anyone close to those 2. Everything else about equal.

Might want to rethink that whole "we've played UT and you haven't" argument. Teams we've faced have a composite ERA of 4.04. Teams you've played have a composite ERA of 4.13. So explain to me again how you're so much better than us at virtually every position but can't score any more runs than us against worse pitching.

Isn't OPS usually considered one of the better metrics to judge offense? OM's ops is .786 (84 runs), while opponents have .732 (87 runs) against them. State has an ops of .678 (84 runs)while opponents have .697 (84 runs) against them. Ole Miss is leaving too many men on base, which I'm hoping is just due to bad luck.

Let's start at the top...

You said OM's hitting is no better than MSU's and point to us being tied at 84 runs scored. You didn't mention any other info regarding offense, just runs scored. Fair enough.

Earlier you said your pitching was better and I point out that there is only 3 runs difference in our two staffs ER. If the only thing that matters is runs scored, as you stated early, surely you acknowledge that there isn't that much difference in our pitching staffs (based on your criteria of runs scored) when you consider that we have played a slightly tougher schedule and have only had three more total runs scored against us.

There is a third factor that isn't being considered. Defense isn't just pitching. When you account for fielding, the two defenses look very similar.
