Gonzaga is SO lucky that Syracuse knocked off WVU in the 2nd round of March Madness!

Gonzaga beat Kansas by 12

Gonzaga beat Auburn by 23

Gonzaga beat Iowa by 11

Northwest State got thrashed twice, but who wouldn’t trash Northwest State?

Gonzaga beat Virginia by 23

Gonzaga beat Northern Arizona by 30

Dixie State by 45 but who wouldn’t beat Dixie State?

Gonzaga beat San Francisco by 23

Gonzaga beat BYU by 17 and by 10 (must have had an off night)

OK, whipping Portland, Pepperdine, Saint Mary’s and Pacific is no feather in anyone’s cap.

Gonzaga beat San Diego State by 28 and by 35

In March Madness:

Gonzaga beat Norfolk State by 43

Gonzaga beat Oklahoma by 16

Gonzaga beat Creighton by 18

Gonzaga beat Southern Cal by 19

But only beat WVU by 5. No team in the whole country gave Gonzaga the sweats the way that WVU did! Not even close!

The Mountaineers would have been Gonzaga’s worst nightmare if they had met again in March Madness.

If Gonzaga wins the national title then it should send a case of the finest champagne to Jim Boeheim.

And a giant thank-you for making sure Gonzaga didn’t have to face the ONLY team in America that had a lead on Gonzaga with 6 minutes to go and lost by only 5 and was only 2 down with a few minutes to go.

I’d say, based on Gonzaga’s scores, that Bob Huggins is one helluva coach!

And WVU can lay claim to giving Gonzaga is toughest game and biggest scare. Huggins Heroes are nothing to mess with.

We definitely gave Gonzaga more fits than ay other team. Culver had a monster game with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Oscar had 14 points and 9 rebounds. Gabe even had 10 points in that game! Our big guys gave Gonzaga fits. Cottrell had 6 points.

But if we played them now would it be the same? Hard to tell. We lost Oscar and Cottrell. We are a different team playing a different style of ball now. As much as Oscar didnt shine like a McDonalds All American should've, he was a big opposing force on the floor for anyone. It may not be the same kind of game now. Huggins did very good to rebuild the team in the middle of the season honestly. Losing 2 bigs on a Huggins team is a big deal, but he did well for it. Guys like McNeil and Taz really stepped up to help us maintain a pretty good season. Cuse just gave us fits. The 2-3 zone isnt something Huggs teams have ever done well against. It was a matchup nightmare for us, and their shooters were hot.

The momentum in the Game changed when Jalen Suggs got hurt, too. The TV announcers identified his temporary absence from the game as a factor.

I’m a huge mountaineer fan but maybe Gonzaga had a bad day? Suggs was out for half of that game and I do think they struggled with our size. Ultimately they figured it out and won the game.

We should celebrate only losing by 5 to Gonzaga, certainly, BUT
West Virginia is different today
and so is Gonzaga.

When it comes down to the big game and big things are on the line WVU falls short most of the time.
