that I think could end up with a coaching search after the season (due to oldness, firings, heart/throat problems, NCAA sanctions, etc.) I only list the schools i feel we should worry about (no CUSA or MAC, etc.schools included):
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><a name="_MailAutoSig"><font face="Calibri">Clemson, Miami, north Carolina, Virginia, Tex A&M, WVA, Michigan, Penn St, AZ State, UCLA, Georgia, Florida</font></a>
<span style="mso-bookmark: _MailAutoSig"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-no-proof: yes"></span></span></p>

Of this list, I only believe UNC, A&M, WVA, PSU, ASU, and UCLA are real threats for mutual interest and I'm inclined not to include PSU, but I will.

The only one that makes me really nervous is A&M, but in the end I think we are ok this season.</p>

The BCS Champ has pretty much come down to the SEC, Texas, Ohio State. USC is gone for awhile. Maybe Oregon takes their place.

Therefore if you win the SEC west and then the SEC Championship you are pretty much guaranteed to be be in the game. It is obviously a tough road, but you should not get stepped over like TCU, Utah, Boise, etc. The issue for us has always been that if you started off the radar, as we tend to do, it is hard to get past teams that started on the radar. Even if you manage to go 13-0, you could be left out. Going 13-0 in the SEC would get you in the game even if you started out ranked 100, especially if those teams are good.

For the record, I don't think Mullen jumps this year, but once the carousel gets cranked up, crazy **** happens. It's tough to anticipate the collateral damage. I think when and or if Miami and A & M begin to shop, things will get interesting for a lot of programs.

Miami will give you the 'scratch the head and say ok' hire.....

I agree with this.

right now on PSU's list of candidates.
to go after Mullen.Only chance would be forJoePa to continue coaching for anotherseason or two and Mullen to continue to excelat MSU. Then he might get some consideration. But PSU will still probably just pick the currentDC Bradley or some other current assistant to succeed JoePa as the "safe" choice.

Penn State being my2nd favorite school--if Mullenwas to leaveMSU, then Iwould want him at Penn State.

Is there nothing better to talk about? It seems everytime I get on here, there's something about whether or not Mullen will leave. Quit speculating and enjoy it while he's here. He may leave. He may not. But quit spreading the negativity right now about the possibility of him leaving. If he does end up leaving (which if he does, likely won't be after this season), then like dawgstudent said, that means we're winning, and I trust Keenum and Stricklin to hire another great coach. The fact of the matter is right now, he's our coach. Enjoy it, and enjoy the success we're having.

***And just a sidenote to whoever posted that list about the coaches' salaries, that is last season's. There are a few coaches on there that were fired/resigned/changed schools. Not sure if much is changed salary wise, but it may be slightly different.

I don't think money will be a factor.Mullen may want to keep his salary low (on paper, wink, wink)because of child support. He will be paid a competitive SEC salary I believe.(2)Most of those other schools don't have good highschool talent like we do_Our recruiting is pretty good and we were 5-7 last yr.We can build a program here.We can win a National Championship here.Once our Coach,AD,and fans realize this,it will happen.(3)Location.Coaches hate dealin with all the off field issues that come with bigger cities.Smaller town=less temptation,Less media coverage,Less headache.Big cities he couldn't go to the movies, play ball in the park with his son without being mobbed.ex-Omg DAN MULLEN everyone screaming to take a picture etc.Starkville OMG Dan Mullen, sheesh no big deal I see him all the time going to work.(3)Starkville is a great place to raise a family.and finally my #1 reason is ,Legacy. He could be the Bear Bryant of MSU.Don't you think he's pitching that same thing to recruits."Come on be apart of MSU'S first National Championship not Bama's 17th or LSU'S 3rd in the last 10yrs etc.Be our Bo Jackson,Be our Hershel Walker.Come to MSU and be legendary or go to those other schools and be ordinary.

and I am using MSU as a springboard, Colorado is not exactly what I would have in mind. Might as well stay where things are good. And as long as Joe Pa has been at PSU, I would be shocked if he does not have someone in place to take over. I'm pretty sure he's not really calling the shots as it is and is basically a figurehead at this point in his career.

he said recently that after a few years at fsu he knew he would have a chance to take the bama job, which he always wanted. when he thought about it, though, he realized that anything he did there would be shadowed by bryant. if he stayed at fsu he could make it his own place and be 'the man' there. why wouldn't dan want to do that here?

When we hired him it was mentioned that he had a child in India as a result of an incident on a trip he took there after high school or college. I think it said he tries to go to India once a year to see the kid.
However, that has no impact on his decision to keep his salary low.
