I get what you are saying. However, there is a much greater chance for us to win like Wisconsin wins with the help of walk-ons than for us to recruit like OSU, MU, and PSU. I believe Dave looks with more realistic eyes than many others. If I'm a walk-on and I see that walk-ons not only play at Wisky but 19 of them have made the NFL, that may be the place I go to walk on. I might even eschew an FBS or FCS scholarship to go walk-on there (something every single Wisconsin walk-on on the team has done even though it costs more to attend there than it does at Nebraska). The walk on program will never be what it was at Nebraska and probably won't be what it is at Wisconsin for the reasons I mentioned. Just because it worked in Daves day, doesn't mean it can work now. He's out of touch with reality and is making a mockery of himself.
I'm not sure how realistic it is though. That's what I'm saying. Maybe, just maybe if NU starts winning again, Nebraska kids will look at NU differently some day, but that may be the chicken or the egg type of thing. I didn't mind it when he brought it up the first time, but the fact that he keeps beating it up just confuses me. Not only that, but there are some guys brought in the last few years(by Riley and Pelini) that people were amazed that didn't end up at one of the FCS schools. The kid from Central City(name escapes me) is one of those examples. Not only that, this staff is going out and getting commitments from preferred walk ons earlier than I can remember. I remember in the past that the walk on class was kind of an afterthought. But now they have emphasized it earlier.I get what you are saying. Every single walk on at Wisky had a scholarship offer to an FBS or FCS school. Every single one of them could be playing somewhere else for free.I have said this before but Wisconsin is littered with DIII schools. Since DIII schools don’t offer athletic scholarships, a kid from Wisconsin, who wants to play in Wisconsin but doesn’t have a scholarship from UW-M is going to pay for school regardless. I’ll say again, there is so much more to it than playing for the home team.

What? Do you have a link to that? I have a very hard time believing that.
Did they initially also have an academic scholarship or grants nearing an athletic scholarship? You do realize that can factor in for some kids. They don't have to give up the academic scholarship until they play. . Do you know the financial situation of any of their walk ons? Could be mom and dad are alums flush with case and more than happy to pay for jr's school to help the program. There are just a lot of possible scenarios and it's foolish to lump a whole group of kids in to one category called a walk on when each situation could be different.Every single walk on at Wisky had a scholarship offer to an FBS or FCS school.
It doesn’t matter, he is arguing a point that no one made. He is busy chasing ghosts of Nebraska football past, just like the interim AD. The walk on program isn’t why Nebraska isn’t a top 25, Top 15 or Top 10 program.
But but but. They got so much more heart, care more, get better grades, and get the hottest chicks.
what does that mean wants to play from Wisconsin?Every kid who wants to play FROM WISCONSIN that doesn’t have a scholarship at UW-M will be paying for school.
what does that mean wants to play from Wisconsin?
The link is in the article I posted. Every kid could be playing free at some D1 school...nearly all the time for kids like this it is at worst a regional school.
I'm sure this is true. But Wisky can sell that their walkons this year in the NFL will make a combined 33 million. Next year with Fumagalli and probably one other it will be more. They are more likely to make it from Wisky as a walkon than schollie player from SDSU.Here is a quote from an instate kid who just visited.
"I've pulled offers from UNI, Chadron State, Simpson and Emporia State. Currently Nebraska says that they want me as a walk-on but I'm not sure I can afford that."
Cost of school is definitely an issue with these kids.

#rimington #facebookphotoI don't have any problem with Remington. They make a good gun.
Add Remington to the list:

Well I don't know......there certainly isn't any blame on the coaches by many of these people. They always say lack of talent so not sure why Rimington suggesting we up the talent level is so bad. I'm quite certain he knows a thing about football and what we need. You think we lost to Wisconsin because of walk-ons? Unbelievable

That's funny. You chastise us for questioning Rimington because he knows a thing or two about football, but you can question criticize the coaching staff, who I'm sure knows a hell of a lot more about football than you do.Well I don't know......there certainly isn't any blame on the coaches by many of these people. To the guys on here bad mouthing Dave.. where is the trophy named after you?
I question their results. As a fan I'm more than capable of seeing that. That's funny. You chastise us for questioning Rimington because he knows a thing or two about football, but you can question criticize the coaching staff, who I'm sure knows a hell of a lot more about football than you do.
I'm not sure I've read one post on this board who said that Eichorst shouldn't have been fired. Maybe questioning the timing of the firing. They are upset their boy got fired. In spite of leading the athletic department into a spiral.
But you are qualified to pick apart everything Eichorst and the staff does? Lol. Quality logic.I read the article, but didn't get the sense he was calling out scholarship players at all.
I think there was some confusion with his initial remarks which I thought would have fit more during the Callahan era, but he does make a good point about losing talent to other states.
I think that is more what he is referring to and I also think there are player development issues with the the program in general.
It's only an interim thing, and Dave's a smart guy, so whatever he comes up with or says towards the end of his interim gig, I'm going to accept what he's saying.

Oh my... I need my lotion.Frost has already stated "Believe me, the walk-on program if I'm hired will make Nebraska football great again".
So answer my question. What was the financial status of the parents and what other aid did those walk ons initially get before they started playing? Do you know if their parents are wealthy? Do you know if they had academic scholarships like Alex Henery or Spencer Long? We have no clue about that so your point is meaningless because you don't know the circumstances surrounding those kids. The link is in the article I posted. Every kid could be playing free at some D1 school...nearly all the time for kids like this it is at worst a regional school.
He hired a failing football coach. Everything else is 1000% better (besides basketball and baseball... because of another couple bad Osborne hires). Hardly a "spiral".They are upset their boy got fired. In spite of leading the athletic department into a spiral.

Ok, so now me wondering why DR is continually banging the walk on drum when the walk on program is way down the list of things wrong with this program is implying that I don't agree with Eichorst being fired? Good grief dude. Go to bed. You're loopy. You have no idea.Actually said it? Not but the displeasure with the firing is implied. Kind of like the Riley supporters calling everyone Riley haters. Even thought nobody has ever said they hated Riley. Its pretty easy to see who is upset about the SE firing when they keep posting negatives about an interim AD who seems to think we need to upgrade the walk-on program. Not sure why anyone would be campaigning against someone wanting more talent here.
Link's been posted that says every walk on at Wisky could be playing free somewhere else.Link?
This. Rimington is trying to fix something that isn't broken. The man sounds like a blithering idiot. What I don't understand about this is we hear all of this talk from him about the importance of the walk-on program(which I don't think anybody denies), but no specific ideas about what's supposed to happen to make it better. Like somebody else suggested, all of this sudden focus on walk-ons might make more sense when Callahan was coach, because the feeling(not completely deserved) was that he de-emphasized the walk-on program. But Riley has made no moves or said anything to indicate he thinks anything less of the walk-on program than anybody else. Last year many even felt we had one of our strongest walk-on classes in awhile. So I don't know what the point of all of this talk about walk-ons is for or what it's supposed to accomplish. I wish we'd at least hear about what it is that's supposed to be done differently.
