...I'm watching Indiana-Penn State on ESPN2 and Indiana is absolutely putrid. They have a great coach and it will take him a couple of years to get some players in, but it just isn't the same to be going into postseason without Indiana in the discussion. I honestly think they'd be the worst team in C-USA if they played in that league.

and they extended it to 10 when they realized how bad everything was.

I realize they lost everything, but Im not sure any rebuilding job is a 10 year deal.

...but when you've got a good coach and you know it, I think it's wise to lock him up. Crean will have them winning in the next couple of years. Right now they're playing a bunch of kids that would be serving water at MSU.

The bigger question to me is if the Sampson fiasco had never happened, how good would they have been this year? I know they lost some players over that deal and recruiting was hurt, but it's hard to imagine them falling this far so quickly.

Tom Crean's is worse. Crean is 1-4 in the NCAA tournament and also has a couple of 1st round NIT exits on his resume. I wouldn't give any coach a 10 year contract, no matter what.

...you left off "at Marquette" on the end of your statement. That's very important.

Plus, I'm pretty sure they went to the final four so we should probably take a second look at your NCAA tourney record.

Another 1-year wonder. I should have known that too because Rob-ert Jack-son was on that team.

guy takes them to 5 tourneys in his last 7 years, including a final four but we're going to blow that off the Final Four.

Surely you jest.

But no coach deserves a 10-year contract. And we've all seen many examples where success at one school doesn't equal success at a different school. Dennis Felton was once a hot coach, but he failed miserably at Georgia. Billy Gillespie was a hot coach based on what he did at Texas A&M, but he looks like he won't last long at Kentucky. Crean may do a great job at Indiana, but he may not be able to duplicate his success at Marquette there. And I don't care how bad things are, 6-24 at Indiana doesn't exactly shout out "good job there coach."</p>

...some coaches that you know will succeed. Crean is one of them. He'll be at Indiana beyond those ten years, unless something flukish happens, like a problem with his health or something like that. And he'll have them winning.

Also, I wouldn't be so quick to shovel the dirt on Gillespie. It's amazing how people will criticize guys like Crean or Gillespie, but will be so quick to run to the defense of Rick Stansbury.

Crean>>>>>>>Brady
Crean = 1 Final Four and only 1 other NCAA win in his career
Brady = 1 Final Four + another Sweet Sixteen

Edit to add that I'm kind of just messing with you here. I do think Crean is a better coach than Brady. But you're WAY too much on the Crean bandwagon. He's in no way deserving of a 10 year contract anywhere, and especially not at a top basketball school like Indiana.

He's got one thing. Fan Support. As terrible as they are, that place is still packed every game

There was some speculation they would not win a single game this year.

Crean is a good, solid coach.
