The Tribune will no longer own the cubs!!

Ricketts set to buy cubs for $900 mil

Now more than a century removed from their last World Series title, the Cubs were purchased by Tribune Co. from Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. for $20.5 million in June 1981. Tribune Co. put the team on the market on opening day 2007, when real estate mogul Sam Zell agreed to buy the corporation.

Of course, Cuban wouldn't be the first MLB owner to be convicted. Steinbrenner beat him to that one.

to the MLB the only thing is it would be fairly controllable due to the fact that even a front row seat doesnt allow you to ***** out the umps face to face.

so what would be the problem? other than the investigation (wasn't he shot down before the investigation though?)

the reason ESPN brought that up again recently was because no one wanted him to make his mark in baseball. baseball is too conservative of a sport for his radical approach to ownership (e.g. coming after refs after games, getting on the floor and getting in opposing teams' players faces after games.) he called out the NBA for rigging/fixing games, with refs and such, when his Mavericks got put out of the playoffs a couple years ago. just imagine what he would do with all the talk of performance enhancing drugs in baseball. im sure he would have constantly wined about how all the other teams are cheating with steriods and his team isn't. he doesn't belong in baseaball regardless of how much money he can wipe his *** with.

why do you think it all of a sudden came to light as soon as Cuban started throwing his name around to buy the Cubs. Nothing came of it in 04, but all of a sudden he gets charged wih something? do you honestly think the MLB team owners weren't digging trying to find dirt on him, and that just so happened to be the best they could do. give me a break if you don't think they are directly related.

but im sure there was extra motivation for the SEC to finally make a move on it when that many powerful MLB owners are pressuring them. so you think this was just a case of coincidence?

I don't think the SEC listens much to what the owners have to say

the MLB owners did not want to have to compete with Cuban. There's really no other way to spin it.

You know the Cardinals are not going to approve him. You know the White Sox aren't going to approve him. The big market teams aren't going to approve him, so that means the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Angels have a no vote. Then the other teams in the NL Central aren't going to approve him either- so that's no votes from the Brewer, Astros, Reds, and Pirates.

And as a Cardinals fan, I will say this- it is pretty ****** for Cubs fans. Cuban would have pumped a TON of money in the Cubs payroll, and it would have been comparable to the Yankees/Red Sox, I think. I really think Cuban would have bought them a WS Championship.

So yeah, you're right when you say that the SEC thing has very little to do with MLB approving the deal.
