Well look at it this way, it's April now so we only got 4 months to go.

Plenty of camps, combines, etc... getting ready to get into full motion. Springs sports is moving right along and by the time we get to June you'll have a little more than a month till previews come out. Once we get past February it feels like it goes into warp speed.

Good stuff. Wondering what my 804 people are thinking about Henrico this year? They’re never really a bad football team even though their record indicates otherwise. We talk so much about Varina, Dinwiddie and Huguenot, but Henrico has a dynamic RB who has a Tech and WVU offer and another kid who is up to about 16 D1 offers. Good to see those kids staying put and not going to HS or Varina.

They have an uphill battle for sure. Very tough schedule a bunch of guys who have been in a bad program for the last couple of years. If they can compete with Hanover/PH/HERM that'll show some real progress. Worst thing they can do is compare themselves to Varina/HSHS because those games won't be close.

IMO they will be no worst than 6-4 this year. They will beat Herm and maybe PH. Still won’t be in the class with HS or Varina but hopefully can close the transfer gap. I think it’ll be Varina, Dinwiddie, and KG in tier 1 and Huguenot, Hanover and Powathan in tier 2. If Henrico can get over the hump, tier 3 isn’t out of the question along with PH, Eastern View and Mataoca in a loaded region.

2023 Elon Prospect Camp I
Date June 15th, 2023 Times: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Cost: $60 DESCRIPTION
Eligibility: Prospect Camps are open to all participants in grades 9-12 as of Fall 2023 and Post Grads. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

General Format: All camps are non-contact. Fundamental skills will be taught and there will also be some individual competition.
Equipment: Cleats and workout clothes. You DO NOT need to bring a helmet.


Camp payment is non-refundable. All payments are final. Camp discount for teams of 10 or more players.

Elon Football Set to Host Summer Camps in June and July​

ELON, N.C. – Elon University football will host four summer prospect camps in June and July on campus at Rhodes Stadium and on the Hunt and Tucker Practice Fields.

The four camp sessions are set for June 13, June 20, July 17 and July 21. All four sessions will be held from 3 to 7 p.m.

Camps are open to all participants in grades 9-12 as of Fall 2019 and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. All camps are non-contact with fundamental skills being taught with individual and team competition mixed in throughout.

Yup for 2 years now. Powhatan will actually be legit these next few years. Going to be some good battles with them and Huguenot in district play.

Y’all making light of Huguenot. They’re gonna beat a lot of teams this year. Won’t beat Dinwiddie or KG, but everyone else will be fair game.

I don't think we're taking them lightly . . . It's just a combination of Huguenot and really Richmond city schools being bad historically. Not counting the Mcfee 90s teams. Add on that we know it's an uphill climb at any of the city schools for participation, resources, support ect. Add in we've seen this coaching staff with a LOADED roster not produce anything resembling a winning culture in 3 or 4 years at LCA. Also no matter how much we want to believe players are transferring like crazy there's limitations on that. Look at how long it took TJ to get where they're at and they still have flamed out late in their seasons recently since Coach Adams left.

There's just really nothing there to give anyone any reason to believe this is going to work especially in year one. We can say LCA played too above their level, which may be true but that doesn't excuse the consistent undisciplined and low quality product they put on the field. I truly believe Huguenot has all of the right makeup to be a great program but I think they set themselves back a couple of years with this current hire.

Just to be clear I want all of the city schools to succeed badly but their decision makes me want to scream sometimes. For instance John Marshalls new coach didn't even play high school football from my understanding. And while that may seem to be a petty gripe, I know for a fact there were some highly qualified candidates from some great schools in the area who would've picked back up where Philip Simms left the program a couple of years ago.

I feel you @GoBlue2109. Obviously you’re extremely knowledgeable on the 804 coaching/athletics landscape. I’m not 100% sold on them to come right in and be region contenders but they’ll have some dudes and dudes win ball games in the regular season.

We gotta stop comparing them to LCA too. None of them teams in RVA metro are gonna be a St. Frances or IMG. LCA wasn’t ready for that level of play. IMO, had they played their cards right, they could’ve became legit by playing the Trinity’s, Benedictine’s and even the better public schools. They were a cheap school and hired a bunch of youth league coaches looking to make a name for themselves. RPS does a much better job than even Henrico of background checks and making sure coaches are qualified and fit to be around children. Not saying they’re getting Patrick Kane or Dave Bedwell or Stu Brown to call plays, but they’ll have better than what they had at LCA.

Lastly, to the black community in the area, Charles Scott is one of the most influential men in the area. He’s the neighborhood hope dealer. Parents see him and they see offers, they see NIL money, they see publicity. You’re going to see kids from Henrico, Chesterfield, and the private schools coming to Huguenot. The high school portal is worse than the college one. Varina was an avg football team in spring 2021. They got a new, unproven coach, and they in a lot of ways looked like a JV team. Fast forward to that fall. BJ Lowery transferred to LCA, Dorian Fleming transferred to LCA, Bobby Dunn graduated, Javion Walker graduated.. Those transfers came and the rest was history. Varina wasn’t winning any awards for being the most disciplined or well coached team either. All it takes is a few impact guys. Huguenot will have their share.
