Good to see intrastate games among Virginia's colleges

With ODU moving up to FBS a few years ago and Liberty to do so next year, there will be more intrastate matchups on the gridiron.

Richmond and William & Mary will get in on the action as well.

Virginia will play three in-state opponents in 2018 – Liberty, Richmond and Virginia Tech – and four in 2019, with Liberty, Old Dominion, William & Mary and Tech.

With JMU's success it would be good to see them get in on the action as well.

The CAA has some very good competitive programs. Playing UVA & Tech will only help Richmond, William & Mary, and hopefully JMU to get better for the FCS playoffs.

Tech plays ODU this year and Delaware. (where former Richmond coach Rocco has moved to) In 2018 Tech plays William & Mary and ODU. In 2019 Tech plays ODU for the 3rd consecutive year. In 2020 Tech plays Liberty.

ODU will host Tech in 2018 and UVA in 2020 in Norfolk...How about this one?? In 2027, UVA comes to Liberty!
I heard they knocked down the old locker room building for the commencement exercises. I guess they put in temporary seating, but you know they will build something permanent very soon. And by 2027 they probably will have increased seating to 50k or above. Of course, if UVA doesn't get their mess together in the next few years, a few hundred seats on the visitors side may be more than enough.

One in-state is enough. Tech's schedule is the unfortunate choice of prior coaches and ADs. Doubt you will see VT playing many in-state schools not named UVA going forward.

Upsets happen. Playing lesser teams is not to the benefit of a team shooting for something more than just 6 wins.

JMU looks to be becoming a FCS powerhouse. They have a great coach, coaching staff, and facilitaties up there...not to mention they are a top 5 institution in the state of VA. I'd love to see a JMU/Tech game yearly or an UR/Tech series.

Altering the topic a bit but sticking to the mentioned schools. Prefaced by, this is way out of my ballpark of knowledge. I wonder if JMU has considered making the jump to FBS. With ODU seemingly doing pretty well and LU making moves, will the Dukes be next? They have tradition with Football this century, academically it's a great institution. Looking at cities, Norfolk/757 has much more and Lynchburg has slightly more to offer than Harrisonburg from a population/job opportunity perspective. Academically, I'd rate JMU higher than the other two overall, they obviously each have their specialties. Financially, LU is probably blowing the doors off, in comparison to the other two. Anybody close to JMU that would have info on the topic? I'm curious if it's been discussed? If so, What's holding back or is it in the works?

Great question Coach. IMO, all of the cards are stacked in JMU's favor. They have a good football program, solid women's basketball program, their softball program was among the best in the nation the past couple of years, and their basketball team has stole 2 recruits from VCU and high tier programs the past two years so somebody is doing something right there. JMU's athletic program is in great shape collectively to make a jump to a better conference. IMO it would be in their best interest to make the jump.

JMU was in a better spot than Liberty, who will pay dearly for the move over the coming years. Regardless, state can't support umpteen FBS schools. Some of these schools will fail and fail hard.

I doubt JMU is considering it very seriously. ODU is struggling financially and Liberty really has no idea what the change will mean for them as they are a marginal FCS school and the FBS landscape I likely to shift again. The JMU admin is smart to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond where they have a handle on the financial model.

FBS is a completely different animal. There is so much money involved, and the top 5 conferences have a ton of influence to keep the bottom rung FBS schools down. JMU is obviously going in that direction though, putting $65 million into renovating Bridgeforth Stadium recently. I hear rumblings of a shakeup in the FBS, but not really sure what that means.

I can't believe LU is paying so much to host ODU. How much are they going to be paying power 5 conference teams? I have a feeling they are going to take a beating in FBS for a long time considering they generally only go 7-4 most years in FCS.
That's a lot of money for an ODU team that MAY play in the Papa John's Bowl at best.
