It 17n doesn't. We have an expensive publix by us that many complain about the pricing (ironically, especially with the surrounding neighborhood). The pricing does NOT keep the riff raff out. Now they are in the store almost like they got free money to shop with
That riff raff is probably me occasionally. Pretty sure everytime I go into a Publix I am hung over, unshaven, wearing flip flops and probably shorts and a t-shirt, and I probably haven't showered that morning as I'm trying to get everything done in the morning before traffic picks up. But I'm only in Publix on vacation

Kroger will raise the prices on something else to keep price lower on other stuff. They do it a lot with cereal. One day Captain Crunch king size will be 7.00 and the Frosted Flank will be 4,99 then a few days later it will be just the opposite. I don't buy a lot of eggs, but I have notice price fluxgates a bunch. It's a good strategy. Word gets out eggs are cheap at Kroger than they are buying other things that are jacked up in price.
This seems pretty common at non-walmart stores. They are competitive on some things, particularly I think items that people pay attention to, and will just randomly gouge you on things. They will be double on things that aren't expensive to begin with (like potatoes) but the milk, eggs, and bread seem to be the same. Meat is higher but usually better quality.

I've spent my career working in big bloated corporations - countless hours of stale trainings to build team skills and all that. All the buzz words, concepts, and classes you could ever think of. 20 minutes of having a meal at the counter and watching the line at Waffle House during peak hours is all you need to see to tell what does and doesn't work. And they are usually nailing it. When Waffle House is running on all cylinders it's a show if you asked me.
Waffle House is great entertainment from the staff to the customers. I've probably eaten in 30 or more across the country and the staff at the vast majority are always friendly, have a ton of fun and seem to enjoy their coworkers and wear pins of 20+ years of service. Impressive business model, operation and culture they've managed to build and maintain all these years even with franchising.
Around 1992 I was driving to work one morning when I lived in Augusta and the station was promoting an "up and coming comedian" appearing at the comedy club there that night, Steve Harvey. Took a chance and my wife I went and don't think either of us has laughed as hard since.
One of the bits was his WH experience and this one is close. Sorry to see it doesn't include the waitress asking if he wanted his pie heated up and his reaction when they put it on the grill and put a cover on it.

Since 92, there are probably 30 WHs in the area.

The one on wrightsboro has gone completely plastic utensils and plates because it's rough there 24/7.

New breakfast places appear and are good for the people who refuse WH, but those places still fail to compete with WH on breakfast quality. Amazing how some places simply do not understand how to fry an egg.

A dozen Jumbo's were $5.66 last night at SmallMart in Starkville. The only reason I bought Jumbo's is they were the ONLY dozen left in the cooler so the price obviously hasn't slowed sales. There were some flats and cases left but no dozen or 18 packs at all to be seen.
Eggs are pretty inelastic. They’re going to get bought no matter the price.

If a temporary increase in the price of 17ing eggs gets this much attention, God help us the next time we have some real adversity come our way.
It could be worse. I haven't seen any "I did that" stickers in the dairy section yet. I'm sure it's coming though. Partisans gonna partisan.

We live in world where people pay extra to have McDonalds delivered to their doorstep, but also lose their **** over eggs costing .25 cents a piece more than they did a year ago.

There's never been an upcharge for Bert's Chili...and for that we should all be thankful.

Last couple times I've been, there hasn't been any Bert's on the menu. In fact, the menu was extremely limited.

Anyone with a brain wouldn’t blame any president for the price of eggs. That goes for all the Trumpers getting thier panties in a twist with Biden and egg prices.
Perhaps apropos of nothing, but just as a point of clarity, Biden was being blamed for his financial policies causing general and widespread inflation, which included the prices of groceries, a small subset of which was "eggs". Eggs just got caught in the national spotlight because it's an easy marker for which everyone has some knowledge.

This specific "price of eggs" debate about Trump lately is really more about eggs specifically; and no doubt it has at least a little to do with the 20 million chicken holocaust a couple months ago.

The price spike in eggs during the Biden administration was a supply issue as well and not just “inflation”.

Huh, I didn't know there was an egg-supply-specific issue last year. I guess I missed that in the middle of everything else.

I know I for one used eggs as a representative example product in my bitching about general inflation and shittty policies.

It was partly that, but it was also just another thing that was crazy expensive. If it hadn't been in the context of a lot of general inflation, I doubt he would have caught much flak over it.

They still have it for the hashbrowns, I'm sure you could sweet talk on of the fine ladies working there for a side of it.

In late 22 into 23 there was a pretty significant bird flu outbreak. That was when they spiked.

I just left the Kroger in Brandon. 18 eggs was 6.79 but the digital deal had them at 3.29. One dozen was 4.79. No deal on it. A gallon of milk was 3.89.
