Gotta say this about Vandy

Watching Vandy and Stallings over the years has me thinking he is a very good coach but he can't seem to get over the hump or win the games that really matter. I think he underachieves with the talent he recruits.
He had the players to make some noise this year, Richmond is well coached and solid, but Vandy has better talent.

and has won more SEC games than us the last 6 years. If they are underachieving- what does that say about us?

I'm not talking about Msu, but to answer your question I do think we have underachieved. I realize Vandy has been to the sweet 16, but they have had the talent to achieve a lot more including this year. They just don't seem to win the big games. The last time they won the SEC tourney was a long time ago and the overall title as well. Them getting beat in the opening round was laying a egg with the talent they have. They were barely average in the SEC this year and the SEC as we know isn't or wasn't very good.

Btw, the Richmond team is solid and well coached, they showed they can be dangerous.

does have two Sweet Sixteens, but has earned that title after 2 two straight first round exits to Murray State and Richmond

He's doubled the number of times Stans has been upset in the first round.

*please note, I am merely pointing out what a stupid way to compare coaches this is, while at the same time giving our coach SOME credit for outside of one year against Butler, handling things in the first round. I went that year, so you can blame me for that one.

Stallings has never won the SEC tourney either but according to coach, that doesn't count.

I do not want to stir up this crap again Coach, but if Stansbury was our coach and we had a year like Vandy just had then you would be up his *** about it. Stallings is a good coach but he deserves a **** ton of criticism for the way their season turned out.</p>

not saying he doesnt. I was responding to the constant underachiever label. Some of you want to say The Recruiter is overachieving here at State, and Stallings is outperforming him. I dont think it's any easier to win at Vandy than it is to win here. They have made the NCAA Tourney 4 of the last 5 years with a Sweet 16 appearance. 2 Sweet 16's in 5 NCAA appearances in hardly underachieving

with a record he has and the talent he has gotten, he still hasn't overachieved by any means. Vandy has some tradition and plays in one of the toughest "gyms" in the country which is to his favor. He has a great record at home and I'm not sure what his record is on the road.
Like I said before, he is a good coach but he doesn't win the "big" games, not counting a poor SEC basketball conference overall.

I agree that Stallings has done very well at Vandy. I am just using your logic and looking at the last fouryears for Stallings:3 NCAA bids withthree first round exits. Much like Stansbury it seems like Stallings has hit a wall and stagnated.

Vandy making 4 NCAA's in the last 5 years is much better than they are used to in Nashville. His teams are trending to be an NCAA Tourney team 80% of the time. Does he need to tighten up and stop the 1st round losses? Sure. But he has shown he can get them to a Sweet 16.

The Recruiter, in that same time frame, has 2 NCAA's- one for winning the SEC Tourney when we had no chance of making the NCAA's as an at-large team. We also have lots of off-the-court issues between players and coaches. Our trend is heading into the wrong direction.

Thats my logic- if you are going to use it- use it correctly.

I am just talking about Stallings. His last three losses in the NCAA's are to two 13 seeds and a 12 seed. That is concerning. It is not like he has been an 8 seed losing to a 9 seed.Stallings is developing a trend of losing to huge underdogs the last 4 years.

A Sweet 16 trip a few years ago does not excuse losing in the first round as a 4 seed twice and a five seed once. For the record, I think Stallings is a good coach but the last 4 years have caused some doubt to creep in.

..should have been banned from this board years ago, but I don't see how even the most tolerate board moderator can stomach coach34 kissing the *** of Vanderbilt's basketball program & Vanderbilt's scumbag coach.

Vanderbilt is a piece of crap program with a piece of crap fanbase. Playing in a piece of crap gym, being coached by a piece of crap coach.

Vanderbilt basketball is the biggest smoke & mirrors trick in all of college athletics.

Every year the national & local sports media kisses the *** of the scumbag Stallings, only to see Stallings, once again, screw the pooch when it's time to prove to the world Vanderbit basketball is all its hyped to be.

So please, coach34, I realize you always cast love & devotion onto **** programs & coaches as a clever way to bash Mississippi State University.

But your fake infatuation with Vanderbilt is a ******** move even for a professional ******** like yourself.
