Weren't most of those cut out already? Maybe we can get on of the Columbus Orthopedic guys to fly over in their Piper.

Interesting. Never thought about that.

But why would those games be affected? They don't pay the players (for playing FB at least) and their coaches surely aren't government employees ... service academy head coaches make salaries on par with most schools.

I believe upper classmen are considered FTEs for the feds.

I think I heard somewhere they are considered government employees. They are 3 of the highest paid government employees at that. Still ridiculous that they're not playing.

A friend's dad was in that group. Glad they were able to get in and it's ridiculous it was ever in question, shutdown or no shutdown.

I think it has to do with all non-essential military travel has been cancelled. It's not about playing the game or paying the coaches but the cost of travel/lodging/meals.

We're dealing with the Federal government here. Common Sense was shutdown 50 years ago and has never been refunded.

I don't know if they still pay for travel for the cadets to go and watch the games. My dad attended West Point in the late 50s and the cadets would travel by train to the away games. Attendance was required and going to the games beat the hell out of their usual activities.

This is ridiculous. They played during the last shutdown. If I'm Boston College and they don't show up, I'm pissed. It may make it harder for the service academies to schedule games in the future if they don't play these games. Because this won't be the last time the government shuts down.
