Graham and Glass will meet in a benefit game on Thursday, Aug. 18th at 7pm. The game is being played at Salem Stadium. This should be a good early season test for both teams.

Any predictions or expectations from either team?

I think Glass will be pretty tough this year, and they have a good schedule too. Certainly could host a couple+ playoff games this year. Looking forward to seeing them Thur.

I don't know much about Glass, but Glass if facing a rough crew in Salem with Graham. Haven't seen this years Gmen yet, but if it's the usual Graham team, they will bring size, speed, talent and depth. Just not a normal or even an above average 2A team.

Graham’s defense seems stout, strong on the line, athletic, & has depth. Offense has a ways to go so it will be interesting to see how they do against EC Glass. They’ve got speed but passes were all over the place. I’d utilize short passes to allow QB to get rid of ball faster. This is my observation from their scrimmage with Gate City. Hopefully, it a great kickoff for both teams prior to official regular season games.

Excited about this matchup. Glass looked pretty good in their scrimmage vs Albemarle. Running game looks improved, and good depth in the defensive line and linebacker groups. Whole team looks bigger and more physical than last season.

Halftime:

Graham - 21 EC Glass - 0

Graham scored on their opening drive and then added two pick-6s by the same player, #1.

Now the 2's are going at it for each team to start the 3rd quarter and Glass scores on a 40-yard TD run as I am typing this but it gets called back for holding.

My gut feeling is that EC Glass is going to make a game out of this in the 2nd half.
George White and his WR's haven't been in sync. Hopefully they can iron some things out in the 3Q.

Glass is not nearly as bad as the score would indicate right now. I actually think they have pretty massive potential if things come together for them.

They’re returning 18. They’re playing a ProGraham tonight, so it’s a wake up call. They needed this.
Correct. ABC 13 News Preview has Glass returning 18 of 21 starters from a previous 8-2 regular season and loads of optimism for this year.

The EC Glass younger players on their 2nd teams are REALLY impressive. I assume they had a very good JV squad last year?

Glass looks sloppy! White threw the ball well, the receivers just weren’t catching the ball. Glass needs to be more disciplined on defense. Graham played disciplined football. Glass is bigger but needs to work on some things

I'll tell you what... the Graham 3rd string QB #16 (3s vs 3s now in the 4th quarter) has some COURAGE. He looks very young and maybe 100 pounds but just made a run up the middle and ran full speed and lowered his shoulder trying to pick up a 1st down. He had several players almost twice his size coming full speed at him and didn't back down.

Get some weight & muscle on him…sounds like he’s got the courage & determination already! Good for him! Tough kid!

Graham's DL is supposed to be very good and deep and their secondary very fast from what I've read
You have read corrrectly. Very good at the LB positions also. The Defense should be 2nd to none for a 2A team. Passing game needs some work on offense, but run game looks good.

Passing is the GMen’s weakness right now but I think it will come along the more reps the QB gets under his belt. I think short intermediate passing game could be a bigger positive than heaving it long. The QB can also run if needed so that’s a plus. He’s a tough kid!

Graham - 21 EC Glass - 14 5:03 left in the 4th

Glass 3s get a stop on the Graham 3s and then drive down passing. The Glass #3 QB also looks VERY talented.

I am not sure how Glass will fare this year but I can tell you that this is one of the deepest (with young talent) teams that I have seen in 4A in awhile. I personally think they will have a VERY good season this year and will likely be better even better next year.

I am also surprised how well Graham reloaded. The last time I saw them in person was right here at Salem Stadium in last year's state championship game. They lost a lot of REALLY good players but it looks to me like they will be a MAJOR FORCE in 2A.

Glass - 21 Graham - 21 2:50 left 4th quarter.

Glass just tied it on a 67-yard TD pass. The previous two plays Glass had a receiver run right by the defense and drop passes. The difference in enrollment size is definitely noticeable from a dearth perspective but again, Glass is VERY stocked with talent.
