I'd take that challenge. I’ll take Region B’s 8 playoff teams against Region Ds 8 and feel pretty confident in having a better outcome. Even limited to each Regions top 4-5, I like Region Bs chances. But that is shear speculation and I am a Region B homer :).

Now that I think about it, how much fun would it be if the playoffs matched 1-8 from Regions instead of the current set up? Find out which region has the better team in each seeded spot, then let the "winners' of each seeded spot play in quarters and so forth...

Something like this:

First round (just hypothetical winners to fill the bracket so calm down :)

R-A #8 JM v. R-B #8 Madison Co.
R-C #8 Martinsville v. R-D #8 Lee

R-A #7 KW
v. R-B #7 Fort Defiance
R-C #7 Patrick v. R-D #7 Gate City

R-A #6 Nottoway v. R-B #6 Stuarts Draft
R-C #6 Nelson
v. R-D #6 Tazewell

R-A #5 Greenville v. R-B #5 Woodstock
R-C #5 Appomattox
v. R-D #5 Lebanon

R-A #4 Central L v. R-B #4 Buckingham
R-C #4 Floyd v. R-D#4 VHS

R-A #3 Bruton v. R-B #3 Riverheads
R-C #3 Gretna
v. R-D #3 Ridgeview

R-A #2 Southampton v. R-B #2 Strasburg
R-C #2 Radford
v. R-D #2 Union

R-A #1 Poquoson v. R-B #1 Clarke County
R-C #1 Glenvar v. R-D #1 Graham

Second Round (winners become the "state seed" in the quarters and beyond)—

R- B #8 Madison v. R- D #8 Lee

R-A #7 KW v. R-D #7 Gate City

R- B #6 Draft v. R-C #6 Nelson

R- B #5 Woodstock v. R- C #5 Appomattox

R-B #4 Buckingham
v. R-D #4 VHS

R-B #3 Riverheads v. R-D #3 Gretna

R-B #2 Strasburg v. R-C #2 Radford

R-A #1 Poquoson v. R-D #1 Graham

Quarterfinals —

#8 Madison v. #1 Graham
#7 King William v. #2 Strasburg
#6 Stuarts Draft v. #3 Riverheads
#5 Appomattox v. #4 Buckingham

Semi Final —

#1 Graham v. #5 Appomattox
#2 Strasburg v. #3 Riverheads

Finals —

# 1 Graham v. #2 Strasburg

Just doing this for fun. I can hear some getting all worked over the #1's playing in the first and second round against each other, but they have to play eventually anyway. And who's to say that one Regions #1 is equal to other(s)? Honestly, I'd still put Clarke County up against most any other team left in the playoffs.

This type of format would make those 1st and 2nd round games much more competitive...especially avoiding some of the absolute blowouts in most 1 v. 8 matchups in current round 1. Then we would know (kind of) which region was stronger top to bottom. And it avoids rematches until the last 2 rounds at the earliest...if at all.
Man, that took some work! I do think VHSL should go back to cross bracket playoffs. It eliminates so many rematches of regular season games.

Region Bs top 8 over any region i would take without question, but there top 4 over over Region Ds top 4 would be 50-50 I think. One thing going against B is history. Just doesn't win state titles in Class 2. That may change this year, but history suggests Region B and Class 2 state titles for whatever reason doesn't mix.

I would agree with this sentiment.
It was just hypothetical picks to fill in a hypothetical bracket in a hypothetical suggestion since I am hypothetically "working" in the office this morning! I should have just used "Region A B C D" without a team name assoicated.

Nothing beats that hypothetically “working” 😂 Those are the best kind of jobs 😂!

Hearing Floyd may be out today. If so monumental loss for Graham.
Graham has the mentality, next man up! If he’s out, the GMen will rally & do what they need to do and hopefully come away with the win! You never know when a new star might shine! Today could be that day! 🤞

That's 2 hits for Graham and two is too many in Class 2. We talked about how luck or bad luck and injuries play a part in the playoffs and in Class 1 and 2, two starters lost late in the playoffs can make all the difference. I think Glenvar goes to Graham and wins. You can get away with it in regular season, but in the semis the teams are too good. Graham's is better than Glenvar when both are full strength. I've seen both, but when nearly 20 percent of the starting lineup is hurt in the semis or title game its usually too much to overcome. Glenvar will win today I think if the Floyd kid is also hurt.

Not lately for sure… but through 1999, the region was always in the conversation, if not the finals. But the Wheel Seems to Have Turned… for now🤞

In 21, Graham has 2 all state linebackers out against a team with an All American RB in King William. Of all the possible injuries, it was the worst case scenario for Graham and best case for King William. Against a passing team like Glenvar, the 2 injuries you don't want is a Defensive Lineman that blows up plays and gets pressure on the QB and a solid defensive back that can lock down the WRs of a passing team. It's the best case scenario possible for Glenvar and the worst case scenario for Graham. Bad bad break or luck or whatever you want to call it for Graham.

Last year against Radford, Graham was missing an all state LB the year prior, a returning starter on the offense line, a returning starter at DB and WR, and a starter on the defensive line. 2022 when they won they were fortunate to not have any injuries.

Graham actually has 3 out today, from what I hear, but they have adequate subs to take their place. Something they didn't have in 2021

Well in your suggestion, u have C vs D. I believe union would beat Radford and Ridgeview would beat Gretna. C was the weakest overall region i think. The one im not sure about is Graham vs Glenvar. We shall see today. I just don't think Region D had a top tier team. I hope im proved wrong today

I would just like to see them do it like they used to before changing it. Where u cross bracket in the semis i think it was

I thought graham played press? Theyve been 5 yds off the receivers. Glenvar just scored. DB didn't play the ball. Not looking good for gmen stopping glenvar

21-21 currently right before halftime.

Graham throws an INT on a ball that was a little high but catchable.

We’ll see if my theory of Coach Palmer abandoning his QB and going wildcat after a mistake holds true.

Graham needs to adjust the defense at halftime.

Yeah, not sure I would abandon the pass totally.. Those bubble screens and quick hitters are working well.

Not having Williamson on that D-Line is hurting, hopefully GMen make adjustments & do something to stop the Glenvar QB. He’s a talent for sure.

All these turnovers getting ugly. I believe whoever wins this loses next week. I know graham is physical. But watching strasburg and Poquoson, those teams are just physical on another level
