Saw this mentioned on the premium board. Pretty cool what they are building.

Debbie Downer - that's some prime real estate.

I spent about 4 hours visiting the museums in our library. There is a Lincoln museum section as well. Both are impressive if you haven't taken the time to visit. The music museum is also a great visit. All are in the library!

Google AI told me that Cindy Wilson, who is the lead donor for the project with her husband, Bryan, is the Cindy Wilson of the B-52s. Is that true?

This would be the best way to showcase it, but we'll screw around and put it on the edge of campus of course.
Putting it in the middle of campus would really cut down on the number of visitors. It's not easy to park for visitors on campus now, and it's going to get worse not better. That's part of the problem with where it is now.

Funny thing, and it's a long story, but I was briefly the owner of the flag that was draped on Grants coffin that will be on display there. If it's not viewable yet, it will be in the near future. From my understanding it's going to get a little restorative care.

You can't get to it now at all with all of the gated entries blocking you. Then once you get past the gates you've got to find somewhere to park. That whole stretch of street behind the library better known as Engineering Row is going to be turned into a "pedestrian plaza" and shut down to vehicular traffic. Same thing is happening to Presidential Circle, a big plaza being built between Allen Hall and where the old McCarthy Gym was. Same thing on the street that ran between McCarthur Hall and the Architectural Bldg, a pedestrian plaza. Hardly anywhere for cars to park anymore but plenty of places to plop down and sit.

I agree that it is prime real estate, but as far as I know, it is currently empty. This is a great use of that space, IMO.

Having a presidential library is awesome for the university. It should be very visible.

I know they want but if they could couple that with some cool retail that would be awesome.

Good to build it there along with the mill and all that. MSU needs. Better conference/presidential library type complex area when people come to visit.

It's only empty because they wouldn't sell it. It's too bad because they could have made a lot of money and had something cool right there on the edge of campus, AND had the presidential library on or near campus. I think DS is saying they sort of wasted that prime lot. In effect, the school got one nice thing but could have had two.

Oh well, maybe next time.

Actually, they sold it back in the mid 2000s to a private company who sat on it, and the university had option to buy it back about 5 years ago, which it did, when this plan began to take hold, along with the opening/re-development of The Mill that shortly preceded the re-purchase
