I would have chickened out...

...I would have been afraid that, upon my return to Mississippi, Ross Barnett would meet me at the airport & whisk me away to my cell at Parchman. Those guys possessed a unique brand of courage.

‘‘segregation now and forever.’’ Did Ross Barnett say this? Always thought it was George Wallace - or at least a paraphased version of what Wallace said. Quick google search doesn't show it by Barnett either
