Like I said, it's entirely subjective. You like what you like. Whether you put LZ at the top of your list shouldn't discount the fact that they were a kick *** and technically proficient band. Sure, you can say that about a lot of bands, but LZ will be in the top 3-5 of virtually every reasonable person's list. That's no accident.Have to disagree with much of your statement. Full disclosure: I don't like LZ. Never have, never will. Plant, imo, is awful. Just wailing and screeching about orcs and Mordor and weird-*** ****. JPJ - agree, underrated. Page - awesome guitar player and underrated as a producer. Got real sloppy at times but can't find too much fault with him. Bonham - imo, overrated. Who the hell wants to listen to a 15-minute drum solo? While a powerhouse sound, not sure he was versatile enough to fit in with many other bands (see Keith Moon, for another example). Somewhat unique style so I'll give him that but just not enough 'roll' with the 'rock' for my taste.
Again, don't like LZ so my opinion is definitely biased. I'm in the minority, of course, but that's why there are so many different bands and genres out there.
Lol at the Lord of the Rings comment, but LZ had 10 studio albums, and I can only count a handful of songs that have anything to do with LOTR.
Misty Mountain Hop
Ramble On
No Quarter
Battle of Evermore
All really great songs BTW.
