Have to disagree with much of your statement. Full disclosure: I don't like LZ. Never have, never will. Plant, imo, is awful. Just wailing and screeching about orcs and Mordor and weird-*** ****. JPJ - agree, underrated. Page - awesome guitar player and underrated as a producer. Got real sloppy at times but can't find too much fault with him. Bonham - imo, overrated. Who the hell wants to listen to a 15-minute drum solo? While a powerhouse sound, not sure he was versatile enough to fit in with many other bands (see Keith Moon, for another example). Somewhat unique style so I'll give him that but just not enough 'roll' with the 'rock' for my taste.

Again, don't like LZ so my opinion is definitely biased. I'm in the minority, of course, but that's why there are so many different bands and genres out there.
Like I said, it's entirely subjective. You like what you like. Whether you put LZ at the top of your list shouldn't discount the fact that they were a kick *** and technically proficient band. Sure, you can say that about a lot of bands, but LZ will be in the top 3-5 of virtually every reasonable person's list. That's no accident.

Lol at the Lord of the Rings comment, but LZ had 10 studio albums, and I can only count a handful of songs that have anything to do with LOTR.

Misty Mountain Hop
Ramble On
No Quarter
Battle of Evermore

All really great songs BTW.

I’ll have to say that it’s AC/DC.

No ballads, no special acoustic numbers, no sugary-sweet made to be radio friendly sellout songs. Just straight up, hard core, Rock. And that Scottish/Australian lead guitar player, Angus Young, is a little badass. One of the greats!
My buddy always complains that all their songs sound similar. My response: "If you perfected rock and roll there is no reason to try something else"

I love VH, but any band that tunes their instruments flat because the singer can't sing that great can't be at the top of the list.
Fair enough. I thought studio wise they got the most they could out of Roth’s lack of vocal talent but he’s still without a doubt one of the greatest frontman of all time. His charisma and stage presence was unmatched

Obviously a generational choice for a lot of people and it's hard for 60 year old musicians to capture the impact they once had but the The Rolling Stones are the premier icons of Rock music IMO and I enjoy other music far more. But the Stones were the **** man. Even Budweiser knew that. Whether you like it or not it Bud like the stones were the it in ****.

I'm personally much, much more into metal than anything else, but my vote goes to the Beatles. They're the top-selling musical act ever (despite only being around for a decade), so they've probably resonated with the most listeners.

Reading Keith Richard's book. How that band turned out the number of songs they did and still performing to this day with the amount of drugs they went though is UNBELIEVABLE!

Its Zeppelin to me. Musicianship, songwriting, swagger, etc. Theyve got it all. No one else has everything they had at every position. Every single guy was a friggin phenom. JPJ was probably the greateat of them and is the most underrated.

This is a true story, I get they may not he everyone's cup of tea, but the diversity of their catalog, the pure musicianship, the continuous accolades from other musicians, peer and following, the sheer number of timeless songs leave no doubt they are the GOAT.

Black Dog, Going To California, In My Time of Dying, Kasmir, When The Levee Breaks, Rain Song. Song Remains The Same, Since I Been Loving You, Hey Hey What Can I Say, Tangerine, For Your Life, Good Times Bad Times, No Quarter, etc.

All different, though they will forever be tagged as a "hard rock band", no one was more accomplished and eclectic.
