He's a good coach. You don't get to coach in the NFL is you're just average. You don't get the admiration of guys like Urban Myer and Belicheck in you're just average. You don't put two and three star kids into the NFL if you're just average. Remember the Hurricane defenses of the late 90's? You may not want him back, but I just don't understand this talk about him being "mediocre."
Steve his stint in the NFL was a dismal failure. Both Belicheck and Meyer are hypocrites. They may admire Schiano, but both guys would do anything to win, and I mean anything.

Look, I don't like the guy as a candidate, but referencing 27-47 is disingenuous. He started with a 0 win team. He ended poorly, and that is certainly a concern, but you can't really count the first few years against him. It was a Shea like scenario he took over, maybe worse.
Maybe it's a slightly disingenuous approach. But it's also a concise approach.

You already know enough to not like the guy as a candidate. Many people haven't (and won't) look deeply enough to find that out for themselves. Putting his record up forces people to either look deeper or accept the record for itself.

Yeah, you didn't actually read what I wrote did you? I am in no way convinced that he is the guy, I flat out said the end of his tenure was a concern. That doesn't make quoting 27-47 at all useful.
Except that, as I mentioned above, it IS actually useful. Just a bit disingenuous.

Not to mention that we can make all the excuses we want for people who have losing records. Such a person will not survive this fan-base's total lack of patience these days. People here will start picking apart the new head coach after the first incomplete pass. By the end of the first bad loss, there will be people complaining about how the new coach stands on the sideline.

Better to have a proven winner than a loser with an upside is my point.

The bucs fans down here in Florida view Schiano in a far more positive light now then when he was fired, because Lovie's team crapped for two years too.

I'm guessing the Miami fan base thinks Schiano or Cristobal are beneath their elevated station in life.

I did but your still defending him that his record should not matter. Records matter - more than the hope that he will recruit like a gangbuster. I am against anyone who has failed already - cristobol/golden. If you read my response, I specifically show the work of his record not being exciting. My response was also a general response as you can tell from my statements going into his recruiting success at Alabama.

I rather take a gamble on someone with smaller time success. I wil be shocked (despite people here all of a sudden assuming money is no object) going go hire a top caliber coach. (This is a general statement - not a reply to you).

Oh for the love of... I'm not defending him. I'm against sloppy and poor arguments, not for Cristobal. It is useless to quote the overall win loss record of someone who takes over a winless team.

Just took a quick look at Da U's free board, and in the possible coaching choices discussed in the thread I looked through there wasn't a single mention of GS by anyone. The talk pretty much revolved around Richt, Matt Rhule, and Butch Davis, with the majority in favor of Richt or wanting Butch Davis to be given another go. -Also, no mention at all of Cristobal as a desired candidate. .

reading Miami is impressed with GS, lets see how they feel after Mullen interviews with them.
