Griz fans. Looks like the core will stay together.

Everyone else is reporting that its Selby and not Ellington. Have no idea who that player they are getting is. Speights wasn't getting much playing time. Hate to see him go but I understand and it gets them under the luxury tax.

Ok now it's all three and a pick. Wow that is not a good deal. I understand the reason but that doesn't help for the playoffs.

The Griz bent over to keep the team together. Giving up 2 contributors, a player that could develop in a better situation, and a first round draft pick for a d league player. This doesn't have the chance to improve with time as the Pau trade did.

Edit because my pad is frustrating the **** out of me this morning.

This a trade Heisley would have made 4-5 years ago to save money. The team needs 3 point shooting in a bad way, hopefully with the trade exception there is another deal that will be made this year for 3 point shooting.

@ChrisVernonShow: The Grizzlies front office all like Jon Leuer and think he is a player. Will explain deal from Grizz side on show today.

@FlyerGrizBlog: Leuer isn't just a throw-in. Griz like him and have some hope he can come close to replicating Speights' value at a quarter of the cost.

This remind me of losing Bo Outlaw and repacing him with Brian Cardinal for a fraction of the cost and expecting similar results.

I'll be honest. I really don't give a 17 about the potential of Leuer at this point. Trading Mo, Wayne, Selby, and a first rounder to avoid luxury tax isn't even just bending over. It's bending over and shoving a 10' pole up your own rear end.

Will it impact the team immediately? Probably not... but they sure better pray that Arthur, TA, Mike, and Bayless all stay healthy. If even one of them goes down, we're going to feel it immediately. The only silver lining that I can see is that this hopefully means that we won't have to trade Rudy for nothing and I guess this will get Wroten some minutes.

Two players will be added and Vernon thinks it could be delonte west and bill walker. I also agree with Vernon when he says this trade should force teams to give them better offers for Rudy now that they don't have to trade him

Makes a lot of sense. We would've basically given Rudy away without this move.

Does anyone know if the new guy can shoot? I've about had it with them trading or letting go shooters when that's exactly what they need. I am glad they did what they had to do to keep Rudy.

That's the way I see it.

We wouldn't have been able to get anything close to his production in a trade involving Gay. Randolph isn't getting any younger, so we don't have time on our side. Keep the core together and make the best of what you have now. It's easy to say 17 it and pay the luxury tax, but the owners are going to have to fund losses one way or another. This is 10 million (if I read a summary correctly) that the owners don't have to worry about while keeping a very talented starting 5.

Peter Edmiston is shredding this trade on twitter and he's right. This was a move to save money and not necessarily to avoid the tax. Worries me that the new ownership is trying save money and not be competitive.

That's pretty much where my head's at... The new ownership deserves a shot to let this thing play out, but any explanation other than that this was done to save $ is BS. Also, now that this has been done, Gay ain't going anywhere. This move was made in order to prevent having to trade Gay which both Hollins and most of the team had already clearly indicated that they didn't endorse in any way.

So I guess if you look at it from the standpoint that someone had to go, then this is probably the lesser of the two evils. However, I think it's a shame that this team wasn't given a chance to show what it could do this offseason. They've finally gotten healthy at the same time, and they have a deeper bench than they've ever had before. Maybe they'd still get knocked out in the first round, but they deserved a chance.
