Gonna be interesting. We're about to learn the difference between a team loaded with NBA level talent but short on experience vs. a team loaded with experience but lacking NBA level talent.

The good news is that doesn't we lack talent, just we fans have to learn the days of having 3-5 guys getting drafted off a single team are probably over. Welcome back to the real world. But after 2-3 years to complete the massive roster turnover, we might get back to someday watching a kid develop from skinny freshman project into at least a strong Junior before he jumps to the NBA.

As for this season, we have 9 guys that should be playing balls to the wall all season. In college, what's that worth?

I'm going with another 4th place finish in the SEC, a 2nd place in the SEC Tourney (to 'Bama), a 4 seed, and an unexpected Elite Eight run for the Cats. Like Pitino's Cats, we're a tough out by the EOY.
I like the way you think........this will be a fun team to watch........

On this board is you’re not convinced Pope is the greatest head coach ever then apparently you’re a hater and a miserable person.

Some of us are actually talking a wait and see approach. Personally, I hope he succeeds but I feel like it’s far from guaranteed.
Don't take it too serious. This is just the honeymoon period.

This board has had a bunch of "new" posters pop up since Pope was hired who make super pessimistic comments about the season while trying to disguise it so it doesn't look like they have an obvious agenda. But I believe they are fans of some other team or of some recently departed head coach.

They comment things like: We have a roster with no dogs coached by an unproven coach so a successful season next year might just be making the tournament.

It completely depends on what the definition of gel is. How long for there to be improvement over Calipari? My expectation is one year. How long until we compete for championships, three to five years.

Pretty realistic dont you think? I'm expecting a sweet 16. But I don't feel great about our chances of making one. Because of new coach, new culture, new offense, team of players who've never played with each other. There's some reasons to think that. That aren't ''trolling'' or having an agenda. I Think year 2 and 3 is when we'll see what Pope can do at UK. I hope Pope kills it year one and makes an elite 8 or better, just don't think it's realistic.

Winning the SEC will be hard this season. Just win the SEC and I'll say year one was a success. It's gonna be a gauntlet.

New coach. New system. All new players. Realistically how long do you expect it to take for everything to gel?
We are going to compete. Every game. Every day.

How that translates into wins is yet to be seen.

We are going to get beat sometimes. No shame on getting beat. We will not lose though.

Teams will have to beat us. My opinion is it will lead to a lot of wins.

I will be shocked at less than a S16 finish.

No matter what we will compete with everyone.

There’s 31 games.

My prediction is 25-6 entering the SEC tourney. 2-1 there we enter the NCAA at 27-7. 2-1 in the tourney we finish at 29-8.

I expect better. But that’s my prediction on June 4th.

Yeah I think some fans are underestimating the fact that we will have zero players next season who have played with anyone else on the team before. And only one player who has played for Pope. Having older guys will probably smooth that transition some but I don't expect it to be perfect from day 1. You just hope that by the end of the season we've gelled. Ideally by the time you get to conference play roles are pretty defined.

People are giving too much credence to the players who haven't played with anyone else. They are used to that and we are used to that. Players don't stay anywhere very long at this point. I don't see that as any factor whatsoever - especially since they have 5 months until the season.

I'm not "new", but obviously a person you're referring. Let's not act like this board wasn't on fire when Mitch made the hire.

Also, what is irrational about having low expectations for year one of a coach with no resume and completely new players (none of which were top 20 in the transfer portal rankings)? This season shouldn't be viewed as the new coach's legacy.

By tip off first game of the season. lol. It’s a long summer and we got some guys who know how to train their bodies and be ready to go. It’s not going to take them long.

I'm inferring there's an agenda to give veiled insults to the program and coach disguised as "realistic expectations" that are unrealistically low.

Somebody actually said they expected an 8-10 seed. That puts us ranked somewhere between 32-40 at the end of the year. That's asinine.

I don't know about that, but conference play will definitely give UK some Ls. My memory isn't the greatest, but I can't remember the SEC ever being this good. The seeding wouldn't be affected by SOS.

While I think we'll be better than 32-40 range I don't think it's all that "crazy".

The margins aren't very large between teams. You have a handful of teams that are a clear cut above everyone else. After that I think people vastly overrate the difference between say the 20th best team in the nation and 40th.
