Jon Gruden Rumors: 4 SEC destinations tailor-made for former coach
There’s Talking Season and then there’s Grumors Season, which really should become a thing anytime Jon Gruden pipes up.

We can if he sucks, especially if we already have a replacement (almost certainly not Gruden) lined up.Lebby would have to leave on his own accord. We can’t fire a coach after two years or less for the third time in six years.
If we fire Lebby after the 2025 season, we'll probably have to overpay for a coach with no other SEC head coach opportunities. We're better off sticking with Lebby. We can if he sucks, especially if we already have a replacement (almost certainly not Gruden) lined up.
Depends on whether he sucks or not. Hopefully we go to a bowl this year and make this question moot.If we fire Lebby after the 2025 season, we'll probably have to overpay for a coach with no other SEC head coach opportunities. We're better off sticking with Lebby.
Exactly. If Lebby can't win this year, why would we expect him to win in a future year? Either he can flip a roster in one offseason using the portal or he can't.If we don't pay $7.5 to $8.5 million we ain't getting a good coach period. If Lebby follows 2-10 with 2-10 or 3-9, we cannot AFFORD to keep him. It's a new day in college football. With complete roster changes every two years now due to NIL and the Portal, nobody can afford to give a guy 3 years if the first two are utter failures! 4 wins would be bad but probably give him another year. 3 wins or less and you cannot wait to see if he gets to 4 wins in 3 years! There IS no rebuilding in this new Era (or Error if you prefer) of college football!
if he wins 2, then he has to be fired. If he wins 3, there will be a decision to make, win 4 or more and he's safe.Lebby would have to leave on his own accord. We can’t fire a coach after two years or less for the third time in six years.
If he wins 3 & we dint fire him we’re not serious about competing in college football. And I’m not convinced we are.if he wins 2, then he has to be fired. If he wins 3, there will be a decision to make, win 4 or more and he's safe.
Concur. If he wins 3 & we dint fire him we’re not serious about competing in college football. And I’m not convinced we are.
We proved we weren't serious about football when our Prez.wouldnt hire an AD before promoting another Damn Coordinator, and followed it up by hiring another coordinator. If he wins 3 & we dint fire him we’re not serious about competing in college football. And I’m not convinced we are.
I think we should fire Lebby today, hire someone else tomorrow, and then fire that guy the day after that. It doesn’t get more serious than that.I say we fire him if we miss the bowl game. Hire another coach and if he doesn't get us to.a bowl game fire him. Hire another coach and if he doesn't get us to a bowl game fire him. Continue on. That proves we are serious
Of course we can hire a G5 coach. The question is how far down the barrel do we have to scrape to find a coach willing to take a chance on the Mississippi State job. Some G5 coach will jump at the chance to take our job.
I say line em up outside the door and fire them each hour if that is what it takes. Who cares that we have to pay them for 4 years after we fire them. We need to let them know we are SERIOUSI think we should fire Lebby today, hire someone else tomorrow, and then fire that guy the day after that. It doesn’t get more serious than that.
The real question is how do we know anyone can succeed at Miss State ?That would be a terrible hire. He was mediocre at the NFL level. Even if he was good, how do we know he could succeed at the college level?
We can, that doesn't mean it's a good idea though, it's not.We can if he sucks, especially if we already have a replacement (almost certainly not Gruden) lined up.
People never learn.Every time we find ourselves needing a new coach, the casuals say "good coaches will crawl over broken glass to take an SEC job." And every time we have multiple coaches who tell us no thanks.
Somewhere between "good coaches will crawl over broken glass to take an SEC job" and settling on a bad coach with an unimpressive resume is the truth here. We can hire good coaches here. We've done it before several times. We just have to not be lazy and stupid, and it always helps to have a little luck. But sticking with a coach who clearly isn't working is never the right answer.Every time we find ourselves needing a new coach, the casuals say "good coaches will crawl over broken glass to take an SEC job." And every time we have multiple coaches who tell us no thanks.
