He didn’t say anything about Starkville. He talked about how he hated cowbells.

You’re on a real run here lately….
He literally said he has been to Starkville twice and hated it. Then said he’s here to talk about the Playoff, not Mississippi State.

It was a bad look.

I think the NFL nation has a well formed opinion about Gruden.

He was all talk and now he's trying to talk his way into college coaching. Cringe.

It’s a blip that no one will talk about in 36 hours. You’re making a big deal out of nothing.
80 percent of the topics on this board could be described as such. Just bringing MSU related content. Someone else would have posted if I didn’t

Thanks Clarion Ledger for amplifying!

Oh no! This is going to destroy us! Gruden is so highly respected and the bar of integrity in the sports world. Will we ever be able to recover from this one day??

An irrelevant headline from an irrelevant news source quoting an irrelevant and tarnished former coach

This is standard for the JCL, which is why I’d quicker go to the Bloom Picayune (Beacon) for current events and op ed pieces ********

It was a bad look for their show but not Starkville. As Gruden said he came to talk playoffs and this becomes the topic.

As for cowbells, yeah opposing fans think they're awful. Not a surprise.

However imitation is the best form of flattery. The last couple of years, sitting on the east side, I've seen UGA, Bama and (look at the pic) Missouri fans ringing them. Not many but a few.

Nobody is making fun of you for posting the topic. We're making fun of you for caring so much about someone's opinion, and your own insecurity that has been revealed through it.

Jon Gruden is full of sh*t.

The CL is almost dead and living on life support. The world will not miss them when they give up the ghost.

Gruden was on a Bwalks podcast where they constantly talk **** to each other and make fun of everything.
They bag on the Penn state kid constantly about JoePa knew
That “reporter” was looking for anything to write about that day and lazily decide to write about a podcast where co-workers were shitting on each other
Pearl clutching about national impact is dumb

1. That show (and Barstool in general) is built on gigging each other. Brandon's whole schtick is built on him making fun of others and being made fun of. Not that big a deal.
2. I see this as national publicity, not necessarily a bad thing. Chuckie said he's been to STK and hated it, because of the cowbells. I for one am glad. Like BW said, that's the intent - for visiting players and coaches to hate playing here. All football stadium crowds would love for opposing players to hate playing in their place, we are just lucky enough (because of that cow and some creative engineering students) to have one of the most unique, most recognized, and certainly loudest ways to annoy the shitt out of the other team in the country. I love it.

I'd much rather a legendary coach say "god I hate going down there, those bells are so f'ing annoying" than no one ever remember coming here or talking about us.

FROM MSU WEBSITE:

The most popular legend is that during a home football game between State and arch-rival Mississippi, a jersey cow wandered onto the playing field. Mississippi State soundly whipped the Rebels that Saturday, and State College students immediately adopted the cow as a good luck charm. Students are said to have continued bringing a cow to football games for a while, until the practice was eventually discontinued in favor of bringing just the cow's bell.

Whatever the origin, it is certain that by the 1950s cowbells were common at Mississippi State games, and by the 1960s were established as the special symbol of Mississippi State. Ironically, the cowbell's popularity grew most rapidly during the long years when State football teams were rarely successful.
Flaunting this anachronism from the 'aggie' days was a proud response by students and alumni to outsider scorn of the university's 'cow college' history.

In 1974, the SEC adopted a rule against artificial noisemakers that made it illegal to ring a cowbell during games. Despite creative efforts by MSU fans to circumvent the ruling and continue the tradition, the ban was in effect until 2010.

------------------

The whole reason and tradition of the cowbell is built on ringing it in the face of opposition.

I'd add that it could come in handy in case shiit goes down after a game as well. Not that I would know* But I'd rather be carrying a bell than a pom pom or flag or roll of toilet paper.

Oh. It’s a Barstool show?

That’s all that had to be said.

Insults and Sarcasm are expected.

You’d think more Packers would take note of that what with our rep of being the Most Negative and Sarcastic Fans of MSU…

Someone should get Gruden to Davis Wade next year.... think he hated then... he will really hate it today.

I don't recall that 87 Tennessee game... unless it's the one where David Fair had a long run TD run. I think that was 1990. Anyways.....My recollection of most sec games at Scott field in the 80s, is 30k at most and maybe a few here and there with cowbells. State strictly enforced the cowbell rule in the student section but not so much in the alumni sections. However still not many people had one for sec games.

The cowbell numbers were not near what they are today.
