For Mississippi State, there is no such thing as guaranteed. I have seen us lose to Maine. Yes, they have a football team.

We play those 4 games on 4 straight weeks to open the season. After that, we'll be left with 8 SEC games in 9 weeks. I'd much rather see the OOC games spread throughout the schedule.

schedule 4-0 with loads of confidence and basically a 4 game pre-season to get all the kinks worked out.

hopefully we don't have a Stansbury style breakdown in our pre-conference games though.

the question for me would be, do we actually get ranked for beating those four teams. of course it would somewhat depend on the results of the previous season. damn it i would like to watch an MSU game aGAIN that has a little number next to our name.

I should have known better than to question the Ninja. I think that's the way all the Big 10 teams schedule. Play all the OOC games in Sept., then conference games only in Oct. and Nov.

But we are getting way ahead of ourselves here.

Of note, the 2011 schedule is not finalized yet, and I am sure we are going to add one more cupcake FCS team to Memphis, UAB and La Tech.

there is no doubt about that. i'd much rather see us ranked in 2010 anyway but i wouldn't hold my breath on that wish.

i believe we are a combined 2 and 2 against those schools over the past 10 years so i would not buy my bowl tickets just yet.

but I hate an away game at Troy. Would it be feasible to schedule where our non-conference away game are always either @Tulane, @Memphis, or @UAB (and I guess at USM when we play them)?

can beat Dan Mullen with a roster full of Tennessee ball catchin', tackle breakin', cap bustin', co-ed rapin' talent.

I'm not scared of Troy or anything- especially now that Croom is gone- but it would be better for us if we could have scheduled someone like that at home.

I'm not really complaining about it either- our 2012 schedule is MUCH better than what we have been doing even with a road game at Troy. I still would rather not do it if I had my drouthers, though.

Too bad the world's coming to an end in 2012.

But just incase that doesn't happen, why don't we have people on here complaining about how easy that OOC football schedule is going to be?

under NCAA rules? Which means if we want a 4 game head start on bowl eligibility, for us that means we have to play at some ****** schools. My only question about Troy is whether it's the best we can do location wise? If we need an away OOC cupcake, can't we at least try to schedule them in places people might want to go to? If there were a way to make it work financially, I'd be up for playing at Tulane every year.

never heard of that rule before. Not saying that it's not true- but as much as I follow college football, you would think that if that were the case you would see it discussed more. I think Tennessee played all of thier non-conference games at home this year, so I don't think it's a rule.

As far as location, the most convenient Sun Belt road trip would be Louisiana-Monroe. Bear in mind that I live in the Jackson area. It's just down I-20, and takes about the same amount of time to get there as it does Starkville for me. Arkansas State would be most convenient for our fans in Memphis. I think Louisiana-Lafayette may be a fun road trip, and it wouldn't be all that inconvenient. I think I've seen their campus just off of I-10. South Alabama will be an easy road trip- and we actually have that one on the schedule in the future. I also think that Georgia State will be in the Sun Belt before long if I'm not mistaken. I imagine that they play at the Georgia Dome, and that would be a fun trip. I went to MTSU this past year, and it wasn't all that bad, and it's fairly close to Nashville. There are definately some good road trips in the Sun Belt.

If we could afford to buy 4 OOC games per year, we could play 8 home games every year if we wanted to. But we can't. And the only ways to get 7 home games per year are to: A) buy two home games per year or B) schedule a lot of 2-for-1's with Sunbelt teams like Troy, South Alabma LA Tech, etc. As you might guess, option A is a good bit more expensive than option B is.
