Most or all of it.Remember that article about Greg (I think it might’ve been in SI) that came out sometime post Tampa Bay and pre OSU that was designed to rehabilitate his image? He touted how much he’s learned from his stops after stint #1 at RU about leadership, micro managing, etc and how he’ll be a much different head coach in the future.
Well, I think it’s fair to start to question just exactly how much of that was utter BS.
Was nothing but a fluff PR piece paid for by his agent. He wasn’t a sought out hire. Most or all of it.
Everything he says is utter bs. And even more hot air comes through his ears, skin pores and hair follicles because the volume of lies and delusions is too much to escape through his mouth.Remember that article about Greg (I think it might’ve been in SI) that came out sometime post Tampa Bay and pre OSU that was designed to rehabilitate his image? But it only takes one to determine that you should ice the kicker on an unmakable FG attempt into a stiff wind.He could have a budget to hire 200 people and it wouldn't matter in the results. Quantity over quality.
If you need an assistant special teams coach, that means your special teams coach isn't getting it done. Apparently it takes 2 people to determine to fair catch everything and anything.
97 on staff? What's the rest of the B1G look like?
1 win per almost 20 on staff just shows how unvaluable they are.
it reminds me when Mike McCarthy said he spent the year after the Packers fired him doing nothing but watching film on every team just trying make himself a better coach and stay on top of what everyone else was doing. Was nothing but a fluff PR piece paid for by his agent. He wasn’t a sought out hire.
Listened to Dohns interview and that was one of the most rambling excuse riddled responses I have ever heard. Not saying you are, but I wouldn’t get excited or enthused by his response. My take is Brian doesn’t want to kick a horse while it’s down. Read between the lines at his responses and the effects that not having a DC have on:So much panic here at odds with Brian Dohn's take. Guess we will see in the end the reason for the length of search and its results, and whether the maxims set forth are accurate or not.
Brian Dohn still doing the same role he did well over a decade ago tells me he's garbage at his job. If he was even remotely competent he would've moved up a long time ago.Listened to Dohns interview and that was one of the most rambling excuse riddled responses I have ever heard. Read between the lines at his responses and the effects that not having a DC have on:
1) portal? “I dont think so” Brian’s opinion that Schiano thought portal outweighs having DC in place. (No real up tick with portal additions and not having defensive staff absolutely effected attractiveness in attracting talent)
2) recruiting? “Well they haven’t had juniors on campus” can’t only show them the offensive staff. But they have time. (Net negative)
I guess that it wasn't that unmakeable. But it only takes one to determine that you should ice the kicker on an unmakable FG attempt into a stiff wind.
You know what happened to that guy at the ending?![]()
6:12pm Sunday
Greg announces himself as DC and also all position coaches
Excellent hire..worth the wait.Travis Johnson South Dakota Head Coach?
Agreed. I like the direction of the hires. But if anyone thinks these were targets 1-8 are kidding themselves. Heard Kelli has some influence in the process once it went beyond the portal deadline. These new coaches may end up very good but did we have to wait months to poach the coaching staffs of SD and Drake?

I don’t know what you are attempting to say in that soliloquy. I like who he ended on but I have 2 questions for you.We don’t really have a true sense of the “count” of prior standing offers Greg had out there, because we don’t know specifically who he was waiting on who “kicked the can down the road” and led Greg on. Clearly, he wasn’t told no outright (that just wouldn’t make sense). We don’t know if candidate(s) flat out played him for fun, a better option came along, they got cold feet on considering a move or any number of other reasons.
Clearly though, both Greg and Keli knew all along (as was common sense), that if necessary he could look to the FCS ranks or snag a sitting DC from an FBS mid-major if whatever he was looking at didn’t work out. Obviously, Greg decided that the possibility of landing the splash hire he had in mind was worth giving up the portal period with a DC in place.
1) yes, sure. But if we landed whoever Greg wanted we might feel differently (it’s easy to say he shouldn’t have waited knowing after the fact that whoever he was holding out for didn’t come here).I don’t know what you are attempting to say in that soliloquy. I like who he ended on but I have 2 questions for you.
1) did the search last longer then it should have?
2) where did you come up with the splash hire story?
From all I’ve heard there was no one that was brought in that would be categorized as a splash hire.
You know someone held out? You know there was a splash hire?1) yes, sure. But if we landed whoever Greg wanted we might feel differently (it’s easy to say he shouldn’t have waited knowing after the fact that whoever he was holding out for didn’t come here).
2) splash hire = Greg’s perception. He obviously had someone (or multiple someone’s) in mind from the NFL or college playoff / bowl teams and like you said - ultimately got turned down. We don’t know that there were 8 someones. It could just as easily be 1-2 candidates who strung him out. Not that it much matters.
You know someone held out? You know there was a splash hire?
You don’t get strung along in 3 separate hiring cycles. There is more to the story. And I used 8 as a bit of hyperbole. As I said to you in an earlier reply to you. This is basically a c suite level job. You don’t bring in many people for this type of hire.
NEver said anything you are saying. Why do you continue to use feelings over logic. I do know that Kelli got involved. And at no point did I say that she forced anything on anyone. Show me where I said anything along those lines. Kelli asked for Greg’s plan and daily updates to move the process along. Don’t get twisted in your own head.Just like you, I don’t “know” anything other than that what was reported about us failed to land Hetherman (and obviously there was a lot of back and forth until we did end up landing KC).
But don’t come on here man and throw a lifeline to the pitch fork committee with a made up narrative that Zinn jumped in and took things over as if she forced this on Greg. That’s bull crap and everyone knows it because he’s way too damn stubborn to ever be made into a lame duck that way. He’d quit before that would be reality.

I don’t have any idea what you are talking about. With lifeline and pitch fork. I don’t imply anything o said she got involved. Exactly what I typed.I said you provided “a lifeline” for that narrative. You planted a subtle seed in stating - Zinn stepped in. What exactly are you trying to imply with your statement if not that she inserted herself in the process?
There was one school in the country whose fan base would go ballistic over to hire him. One. Unfortunately, that was Rutgers. No one would have touched him with a ten foot pole. At best he is a DC in this league. I give him credit though. Very savvy. He parlayed that angst to the tune of millions. It was a real display of creating leverage and using it. Him and his agent must have had a big laugh after signing that contract. Was nothing but a fluff PR piece paid for by his agent. He wasn’t a sought out hire.
