Iowa State is Big 12. Iowa is Big 10 or whatever it’s called now.

And it’s not really obvious Iowa has fallen from the record. Not sure how easy their schedules have been, but since 2021, they’ve won 10, 7, 10, and 8 regular season games. Been to the conference championship twice in that time frame. Not much success in the championship game or bowls, but it doesn’t look obviously different than most of his tenure.

he has a limited offense and makes up for it with good coaching otherwise and defense and special teams. Maybe he’s had some ridiculously easy schedules hiding how bad that record is, but it looks like they’re just a typical fan base that is tired of a coach that is good but not going to win them a championship. They’re almost certainly going to downgrade after him though.

Yup. Definitely lost the thread there. Yea, Gundy has dropped off obviously. Surely that's not all NIL.

I'd like to see he coaching tree. I think a lot of these guys that tail off, if you look back they have a lot of good assistants come through. Then towards the end assistants stay longer. Not sure if it's the head coach losing steam, or his coaching/system being less of an advantage as people adjust and also have the benefit of former assistants to help prepare/game plan, or whether adverse selection over time means the best assistants move on and the remaining assistants sticking pulling the average quality down over time as they fill up more spots for longer.
