Gutty performances

Over the years, we've seen some great efforts by players who were injured or were put into the game because of an injury to another player. One of the best 1-2 punch efforts was 1982 vs. Missouri. Mike Rozier, who wasn't expected to play, gave one of the great performances of his career with 139 tough yards to keep the Tigers off balance. Bruce Mathison came in for Turner Gill and had a solid outing, scoring the game clinching td with less than 3 minutes to go. It was a helluva contest and a major nail biter to say the least.

What are some of your favorite efforts?

The Turminator? You must be kidding. How gutty is it to turn around and hand the ball off? For that game, gutty would have gone to the O-line, or LP, or the defense.

What about every time Zac Taylor took a snap? That poor guy spent a lot of time on his back.

I hear what you are saying but he did complete a few passes and ran in crucial situations.

Trev Alberts, 1994 Orange Bowl vs. FSU. Basically sacrificed his pro career to help the Huskers try to win Tom's first national title. Dominant performance with a cast on his arm.

LP's 31 carries, with everyone in the building knowing he was getting the ball, was pretty outstanding and stands out as a gutty performance. Burkhead's 38 vs Iowa stand out as gutty too. The entire d-line in the '95 orange bowl jumped in my mind too.

I was actually thinking LP, or Berringer in that same game. LP clearly had issues, but taking the ball 31 times in that game when a 16th-ranked K-State team KNEW that he was getting the ball and sent everyone to stop him, he was a stud that day. Didn't Berringer play in the 2nd half with a partially collapsed lung just to try to give us some non-LP threat?

Guttiest performance ever was Jeff Kinney in the Game of the Century. Watch what he did in the 4th quarter of that game.
He refused to let us lose that day. Runner up, Rich Glover in the same game.

Definitely Chad May in Lincoln against the Blackshirts. After 17 eye gouges, that kid just kept going. What a gamer! Runner up would be Chase Daniels from Missouri, who refused to let sideline hunger slow him down (although he could have just had a Snickers, after all).

Not trying to bash the MT, but people seem to forget he was pulled in favor of on injured BB, because the coaches were that nervous about the possible outcome.

One that is rarely talked about. 1987 South Carolina. Nebraska was down more than a TD. Steve Taylor was knocked out of the game in the 2nd half. Clete Blakeman came in to play QB.

Keith Jones ran as hard as he did in his career, and I remember he had a near full speed collision with the guy who knocked Taylor out of the game, and fell forward for a couple more yards. Probably the most dramatic come from behind home game I've ever seen just behind the 2011 OSU game.

Never saw anyone play at such a high level when he was absolutely hindered so badly. That performance. Suh, vs Texas, and Glover vs Oklahoma in 71, are the 3 best individual defensive performances in the history of this program IMO. Too bad we only won 1.

Going with Remmington for his entire career at NU. Do I remember this correctly that he played on not one, but two torn ACL's? If that's true, good lord that a tough sunofabitch.
