Guy Thomas to Maryland?

If we're moving on for better prospects that would be fantastic. Seems like elite pass rushers are the rarest guys out there and guys that can contribute immediately in that role are even rarer. We sure could use a few, I'd love to see lockdown U have a chance to showcase their skills without having to cover a guy for six seconds.

I would like to jump on this train, but other than Shelvin, I'm not sure who we are in on at the DL position to push Thomas out of the way. (We can take both Daniels and Shelvin and still keep Thomas).

JP visited Rivals100 DE Beal a short while ago, but its highly unlikely he's just up and flipping from UGA out of nowhere.
If this is the case my guess would be he was told to wait and see if Nebraska got other commits and he didnt like that. Hence his "I'm not signing with Nebraska" quote

What better prospects are you guys talking about? Other than Daniels, who are these elite DL recruits that are telling the staff they're N and we can afford to lose a 4 star DE from Booker T in Florida? Shelvin and Beal are never committing here, so that leaves us with DD and he's a DT which is a definite need but not as important as DE. This is devastating news. And I don't think JP was a man and told him face-to-face the staff was looking elsewhere or else they wouldn't have posted a picture together saying GBR.

Thomas is 3* and you have no idea about Shelvin do you. Not saying I want to lose Thomas, but something is off if he just now considers a visit somewhere elsewhere.

Thomas hasn't even stepped foot on campus yet, has he? Why would this be a shock if he goes to Maryland? If anything, this leads me to believe there's a much bigger and better fish on the hook.

He hasn't set foot on campus and I do not believe we have any bigger or better fish on the hook. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if Porcher was the only DE we sign now.

So who are these bigger fish that are on our hook?? Porcher will most likely move inside to DT once he's on campus so that leaves us with no DEs in this class. Maybe Hampton moves to a DE as a pass rushing specialist? IDK. It's ok to be "negative" guys and admit this sucks and will hurt our class. Not everything has to be spun as a positive. Shelvin and Beal are never coming here so let's hope Guy sticks with his commitment

Recruiting is a two way street. We talk to other teams recruits hoping for a flip, they'll talk to ours.

Has me thinking about the Porcher comments about not taking visits late in the game. And if we are hearing these late visit announcements from current commits, how likely are they to actually sign with us.

It's also okay to be optimistic, isn't it?

Losing Guy Thomas, if that's what ends up happening, doesn't impact us in the 2017 or 2018 season. Losing him is impacted only if we don't grab someone else in this class or next, that can play in 2019, or 2018 if needed which I don't see Thomas doing.

Parrella has done a very good job in his first class, with or without Thomas, and I expect JP to keep up yhe success.

His commit and subsequent "recruitment" seems eerily similar to a kid that was
Sure, but what is there to be optimistic about in this situation? We aren't in a position to lose a prospect like Guy and it not hurt our class.
I think we can find another 205 lb DE or MAYBE a 245 lb DE that is a better prospect and make our class better. Have you seen this kid in action to make the statement that "we can't afford to lose a prospect like Guy."? Not gonna worry about this one. I questioned the offer in the first place. My only thought was maybe they think he's fast enough to play linebacker and won't lose any speed putting on 30lbs. Meh. Go find a better guy.

Lol have you guys not seen his offer list? Just watch his highlights and you'll see why we can't afford to lose him..idc how much he weighs. He plays against some of the best HS competition in the nation and his brother was 5 star. This kid could easily be 235 within a couple years. He's not just going to stay 205 forever lol. I can't believe you guys are spinning this as a possible positive sign. Insane.

I've watched his highlights, and know all about his offer list, so thanks for responding and agreeing with me, he's a 2018 [season] contributor. At the soonest. It's not a spin to say he's only a loss if someone isn't signed to replace him. By that, it means a 2018 contributor.

You're acting like this dude is someone that'll come in and play right away, which isn't the case. Your hot takes are insane.

Never said he was going to stay 205 lbs, heck even at 235, he would get eaten alive in the B1G. Methinks you might be over sensationalizing his potential value. Time will tell. IF he's all B1G at Maryland and his replacement in this class doesn't do anything then worry about it. And BTW FYI, offers are self reported........Seems odd doesn't it if all those offers are legit that he would be going to Maryland now. Remember that kid a few years ago that had committed to NU when he didn't have a committable offer then made us look bad when he didn't have another school to go to?

I never once said he was going to come in and play right away, but it's not impossible for him not to. Who do we have at DE for next year? Freedom.. Natter? Alex Davis? Neal? Yeah NO WAY a 4 star could come in and get playing time with those guys in front of him lol. He's a 4 star from Florida with great potential. Glad you know for a fact he won't play until 2018 at the soonest. And if he did contribute in 2 years, that would be perfect because the talent level is so bare, we could use him.

Dazirus and freedom got eaten alive at 260+ Kahlil Mack is 6'2 250lb and he pushes NFL linemen around with leverage and speed.

How many major college offers did Kahlil have? He went to Buffalo......You are projecting a kid right now that weighs 205 to be Kahlil Mack.....alrighty then.

Lol so you're saying all those top offers of his are lies because he's looking at Maryland?? Because no recruits pick weak schools over top tier programs all the time. Kentucky and Houston landed 5 star prospects that had offers from everywhere. Those offers where probably self reported tho since they chose Houston and Kentucky.

He's been told he'd redshirt in 2017, so it's not me saying he wouldn't play right away, it's the damn coaches. Thomas is a talented player, no doubt about it, but he's also raw, very raw. Put the pipe down, learn how to quote/respond and get to know what's going on before blowing smoke that just circles right in front of you.

Awesome reference of Khalil Mack, a 25-year old NFL star, up against Guy Thomas, a 17/18-year old 50+ pounds lighter.

Goodness gracious, yikes.

Lol nope I'm not. It's called making a point. You stated that if he's 235 he would get dominated by BIG ten Linemen but i just pointed out that our 2 DEs who weigh 60lbs more than this kid got dominated by Big ten linemen. Theres plenty of smaller DEs that are great a football. Kahlil is just one. He could be the next Kahlil, or he could not be..like I said from the get go, we're not in a position to lose a player of his caliber.

Randy Freaking Gregory got manhandled a good many plays at 235. IF the kid grew in to a Randy Gregory talent well great BUT I'm not gonna get my boxers in a bunch over a 205 DE that has never even visited campus deciding to go elsewhere after he was told he would have to redshirt....IF he was already 235 running a 4.6 then maybe I would be concerned.

Lol ok glad we can afford to lose a very talented raw player like him. I didn't know we had all this talent at DE behind freedom and Dazirus. Goodness gracious, yikes

No ones getting their boxers in a bunch over this. Like I said from the get go, I had no idea we could afford to lose a 4 star DE and I also had no idea the staff had better talents on their hooks. I can't wait to these 240lbs DEs that are N.

I think your passionate replies in this thread make it quite evident that in fact your boxers are most definitely impinging on your privates causing hypo-oxygenation of your gray matter.

One of the other sites is saying Thomas will visit Louisville, followed by Nebraska, on consecutive weekends in January.

Yeah and Pitt too I believe. If we can't keep him after visits to those schools then idk I guess.

@c3ntral08

For now, Thomas said he’s a firm Huskers’ pledge and has a rapport with the staff.

The above is an update from his Maryland visit, that he rated a 7. We all know how recruiting goes, just updating what was said. It was also noted in the article Maryland is recruiting him as a BUCK. No mention of Pitt that I could see, Louisville and Nebraska are the next two visits.

Louisville could be a tough one just because of Dirty Bobby. Snake.
