Actually, correction - the majority of "hedge fund guys" are investing just their own/daddy's money and are completely full of ****. Basically glorified Etrade day traders.
But the vast majority of real, have $1B+ of others people's money hedge fund guys are complete dorks with highly limited social skills.
There have been a bunch of Ibanker/HF/Trader shows, and they all seem to fail miserably. My guess is that it works in a movie because over the course of 2 hours you can just make audiences go WOW at all the excesses and assholery, and kinda blow past the boring details - or just make **** up that could never, ever happen (Boiler Room).
But over the course of a season of TV, you can't really do that, and there's little to no compelling drama. Legal shows have court battles, medical shows have docs saving people's lives, so there's plenty of drama to weave around the soap opera ****. In a finance show? Meh. Hey, we made some money today cause stocks went up, oh no we lost a lot of money because the Euro tanked! Not really all that interesting to the public.
Tomorrow I'm meeting with the CFO of Facebook, and I won't have anything to post about it, because the details would be boring as **** to all of you. The LNKD meeting could be interesting, but only because someone might assault the CFO.
