Unfortunately, 5 years is a pretty damn good run for a restaurant these days...and you can probably bet the last few were a stubborn struggle.
Just tells you the few guys who can CONSISTENTLY make successful restaurants (Fernando Martinez, for example) are just that much better/smarter.
A really good read is actually 'Restaurant Man', by Joe Bastianich. (Mario's partner in their NYC empire). He really gets deep into the financials & managing costs, all the way down to napkins & forks -- someone like PTI(pti) would even enjoy. It's a quick read and really fascinating.
Having a little restaurant/pizza place has always been a silly little unrealistic 'dream' of mine, but it's pure fantasy. I'd take my money to the craps table before I'd do that, and feel better about my gamble, in all honesty.

Anth, I know someone who ate at Sage Rabbit, and he said it may have been the worst meal he's ever had. What do you think of it? Did he catch them on a (really) bad night?
There's a little abandoned spot next to County Club and near West Sixth that I'm just waiting for someone to do something with. It's a no-brainer, IMO. Maybe fylm or somebody could put a little taco stand there.

- Hooped last night at the park. Hard as ish chasing young twenty somethings and teens up and down the court but it's a great workout. More and more bros rock UK gear now. Like that.
- Enjoy sitting on the patio around dusk with a frosty just taking in the sounds of summer. Kids on bikes, lightning bugs, the smell of grills, etc.
- Happy hour tonight followed by dinner. Hope to be in bed by 10:00. That's my ideal Friday night.
- Are we gonna start this Conrad kid at TE? Sounds like he's going to be a good one but he's still a true frosh . Be nice to have a flex TE for the first time since Tamme.
- Think Mikel Horton had a nice true frosh campaign. Think he gets overlooked. Sounds like he's lost a good amount of weight. He can be a nice compliment to Boom and Kemp. More of a grind out back.
- For 3 months I was totally numb and melancholy regarding UK athletics. The giant hangover from a 5 month long ride that ended with a depressing thud.
Now that we're in the dog days of summer and with football season getting closer and closer... I'm feeling cagy again... And I like it.

Surprised it lasted that long. Owner split with her partner in a nasty legal battle, made it 3-4 years after that, she was nice but there was no management there when she was gone and had a hard time keeping chefs from what I could tell.

Dateline needs to chill in the 2 hours -- pretty much become the standard.
For a few classics, it's necessary...but 80% of the time, it's just filler & unnecessary stuff to "stretch" it to 2. We pretty much filter through and look for a 1hr or do 48 hours if nothing. Bet we have 15-20 2 hour ones sitting there in the DVR -- recs appreciated.
-So Robert Allenby & his caddy part ways during the middle of the round, forcing a fan to finish on the bag. [laughing] ...that guy is a mess, it seems.

Weird summer. June and July, where did they go?
Guess my situation is a bit different. I'm hoping for another two months of heat. Got two weeks off in August, will be at the lake most of it. Labor day weekend should also be able to head out on the water after the UK game the 5th. Well timed away game at SC for Poker run. Pretty much gonna try and hit it hard till Keeneland.

Have a client who is a regional sales manager for one of the bigger food distributors in town. They distribute to a ton of the local joints here.
The stories he's told me as far as what goes on behind the scenes with these restaurants and the major ego battles between chefs and owners is really interesting.
You can easily have a very popular joint that puts out a great product that is hemorrhaging money.
That's one business I'd stay far away from in terms of an "investment".

Can't speak on Lexington Diner, but in general Diners & small restaurants are way too ambitious.

That's pretty much why every (or most) Food Trucks are pretty awesome. They have a few things they focus on, and they pretty much nail them.

Finally hitting up Middle Fork with some friends tomorrow. Have high hopes for that place, long term, so I hope it doesn't let me down.
Wife just called me in a panic, says she was airing up her tire which was slightly low -- and she proceeded to deflate the entire thing, and now it's completely flat & sitting on the rim. Then asked me if she's supposed to squeeze the handle or something.

I've had a similar call but she was "struggling to take the tire off so I can put air in it"
Had to explain to her that she could in fact air up the tire without removing it from her car altogether.

She did call me back in tears, but it was b/c she'd had the clerk turn the machine on for her, and the air had expired.
Had to go through the complicated steps of how to walk back inside and politely ask if she could turn it back on again. Or, just swipe your card/deposit the $1.00 yourself, then proceed to actually put air in tire.
She's actually better at **** around the house than I am, but refuses to learn anything car-related. I'm as big of a car idiot as there is, but I can air up my damn tire & check my oil (and change a flat, which I wouldn't expect her to do or want to).

It is owned by the Breadbox (West 6th) and they are planning to put a local food grocer in there. They will likely make a public announcement/press release in August.
Haven't been but that guy has been around a few times before. I love the concept of farm to table but let's be honest it's not always the best food.
We ate there 3 weeks ago, it had just opened. Didn't have booze which I'm sure they do now. Super hipster influence. Hodge podge of a menu. They say it's served tapas style whenever it's done but it's normal American food. So that's all pretty annoying. It was good for the most part. We'll give it another run for sure. They need to fix that parking lot but it's a cool little area. Plus, Crank & Boom and Ethereal are right there.
I think the Gnomes are really good. Red State is solid. Ellos is awesome. Not a big selection though.

He's a 5'9" middle of the pack 3 star WR, we have a 6'1", 6'5", and 6'7" WR all with similar forty times already committed.
