Pookie Jones to me in the fall of 91 Marcus Welby the Michael Jordan of Kentucky Football. Was in awe early on. This was his first year as a starter when he relied on raw athleticism.

Dude had this breakout game against Ole Miss where he had this 80 something yard run down to their 3 yd line or something. Thought he was Randall Cunningham.

Wife has me addicted to 'Forensic Files' on HLN during those times when we're not really watching anything seriously/on the way to bed, etc.

Pretty solid. 30 minutes long, quick-hitting, interesting...it's a nice compromise given her extreme hate of COPS [eyeroll], which I could pretty much watch 24 hours per day until death.

Anyone else enjoy?

Never really was a huge O'Ferral fan at QB. Liked him as an athlete and thought Curry should've moved him back as a safety. Always yearned for Jeff Speedy as QB during those years. Dude looked untouchable against UL in the 1st quarter against UL in 94 and then got hurt and was never the same aka he was awful.

Who was the JUCO running back who broke all kinds of records including some of OJ Simpson's #'s? That dude came in with all kinds of hype and maybe played one down.

O'Ferral has to be the worst actual throwing QB in CFB history. Jeff Speedy overthrew everything, I HATED him once I finally got to see him.

...yearned for Mike Scipione instead.

Meh, I was way out in front on the bourbon craze & now all these fly by wanna be bourbon fools line up to get 1 of the 6 bottles each stores releases. I used to be able to walk into 3 or 4 local stores I frequented & get everything I wanted with no hassle. Now it's all a big hustle & people charging ridiculous secondary prices. BS

dude. you just humble bragged about buying Kentucky Owl. that brand disappeared for like a hundred years before being "resurrected" in 2014 -- taking full advantage of the bourbon craze.

in other words, you ARE the tom, dick, and harry that product was made for. you know, since back in the day when you could just scoop whatever you wanted right up off the shelf THE BRAND DIDNT EVEN EXIST.

idiot.

Damon Carter, from Henderson Co.

He said he was gonna win the Heisman before arriving on campus, Killa & I were JACKED. He was by all accounts, a legit stud. Yes, he shattered all of OJ's records out in Arizona.

Never cracked the rotation, and I think he finished his marginal career at EKU, Like many others, including my boy Donnell Gordon, who was stuck behind wackass Derrick Logan during the 1-yard-and-a-cloud-of-dust Curry scheme.

Oh, and stick with the Reds '73. You were out waxing half of LA back in this era. Dude is the Matt Jones of UK sports, a Johnny-come-lately, imo.

-Harris is in Pharm sales, pretty sure. Also pretty sure he hasn't made an actual sales call this century, so really no clue what he actually does other than travel and shoulder-rub.

Al Baker/Alfred Rawls are what got me into UK Football to begin with, bub...other than growing up in a UK family and going to games since I could crawl. Try again.

Nice google tho

Pookie had a brother that was one year older than he and was a better football player. Unfortunately he was mildly retarded and couldn't get in to any schools. His name was Fred. Got to play against Pookie for 2 years. It was fun watching him.

Chief, what about Miguel Merritt? I wanted that guy as much as anyone ever not named Tim Couch.

-'73, yes - those squads did. I was 8 years old. You're close to 7 years older than me, idiot. Had a poster of Randy Holleran, Tony Massey, Ivy Joe, and Oliver Barnett in my room. Maybe Freddie was on there, but don't think so. Still have it rolled up somewhere, along with many others.

Phil Logan was the other dude I loved. And yes, Mark Higgs was a legend in my household, but not gonna pretend like I was enamored with him in pre-school. That's a Chad move.

Al Baker was banging my cousin when they were both freshmen. Me and her brother, along with other family, went to Lex for midnight madness. We got to stay in his dorm room for the night while the others stayed in a hotel.

Marshall Co, where they were from had a bad rep for racism. So when some of the other UK players asked where we were from he answered Paducah as well. He said he was afraid to answer MC because he might get hurt.

The high school I went to played Baker twice and he was a site to behold.

Miguel Merritt had a bad motorcycle accident a couple years after returning to Hoptown from Alabama, it probably would have killed most people. I saw him play against Couch in a beat down when they were in high school.

My dad went to Miami Edison High school for a couple of years before moving back to KY. A couple of guys from there that he knew ended up at UK playing for the Thin Thirty.

That got him in to it and he started following recruiting and got me in to it as a kid.

Merritt would have been nice at UK. We played Hoptown yearly but he was well after me.

Jon Collins though....as a sophomore we went up to scrimmage Madisonville. We were all scared shitless of him. Marcus have been an Mr. Olympia suiting up.

Didn't Hoptown crush them like 65-0 or some crazy **** like that? Remember calling in and arguing with Dick Gabriel about it as Killa laughed in the background.

Chief has always been jealous of my Jeremy Story stories.

Jacob is the dude who has a 2nd hand story about EVERYONE from anywhere he's ever lived, but never knew a single person he's talking about b/c he wasn't cool enough to actually be 1st Hand/involved.

I was pretty bigtime into Tim Couch, or as us diehards called him "The Deuce."

Speaking of which, anyone else pretty turned off by a football guy running this place now? Errbody down for a GYERO reloke to 247?

Was that mean? I'm sorry, I like jake in real life, as nice of a guy as you could ever meet -- he's just awful on here. He's worse than that, actually, but I don't have my thesaurus handy and am too lazy to lycos.

- Nothing better than pointing to a pile of chopped up OSB on a job site with beer cans hidden under them and the builder saying "can't say much about it they wouldn't understand me anyway!"

- Narcos is very legit to see things from a non-USA view of the situation.

- Worked my *** off this summer and it's starting to pay off. Hard not to get consumed with ALL the challenges in sales but year 1 and on pace to hit 750K in sales and growing.

- Got offered UK tix for Saturday, and almost feel bad hoping the grandparents offer to take the kids to the lake, almost!

- All in on Auburn -10.5, of course bought the half point just in case. Start it off with a bang!

It's hard to talk football with Chad b/c he's so indifferent but I do my best b/c he's my friend. I'll try again with something that's fair and I feel confident he can speak about.

Chad, what's your favorite 1st Quarter in Commonwealth history?

Pookie Jones may be one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Maybe too nice if that makes sense. My oldest gets lessons at the baseball school he runs and everytime I've seen him outside of the place he goes out of his way to come talk to me. He is one of the best hitting coaches in Lexington.

If you can remember watching the GD '84 Hall of Fame Bowl, come talk to me, A-dub. Until then, shush.
