***THE GOOD***
We scored 88 points, shot 55% from the field and 70% from the line.
We owned the glass.
Our 3 bigs combined to shoot 17-23 from the field and 8-8 from the line.
With the exception of AP launching 2 bricks, the right people were taking 3's (Murray, Ulis, Willis).
We had 18 assists, led by Ulis with 8 (and only 2 TOs).
We held EKU over 20 its below their scoring avg and almost 20% below what they normally shoot from deep. We also only allowed them 18 looks from 3pt land.
We had 9 blocks.
***THE BAD***
We allowed EKU to drive to the basket at will.
We turned the ball over 17 times.
Ice cold from 3 again, 4-19. Passed up good open looks and settled for contested 3's when we didn't need to.
Only 3 steals.
Only turned EKU over 13 times.
Labissiere only managed 4 boards.
We just seemed out of sync.
Lost a lot of 50/50 balls.
Only shot 6 more FTs than EKU.
*****
We weren't nearly as aggressive as I hoped we'd be. We came out of the gate strong and then seemed to relax.
The defense was very frustrating to me. The stats weren't horrible, but failed to tell tell the true story, IMO. EKU got around our guards at will and then our bigs would leave their feet and get out of position every single time.
Skal, Poythress, Lee and Willis should have to drop do 25 pushups every time they leave their feet. It drives me crazy. Force them to make a contested shot.
Murray is the most out of sync out there, right now. He simply tries to do too much way too often.
Skal is thinking way too much, isn't aggressive enough and is completely lost at times.
But I still like my team.
The next few Saturdays will tell us a lot, but I'm still pretty confident we will be where we need to me in late February and March.
