Obviously Edwards was hurting us. Just meant it was proportional to his stats, as opposed to Wagner, whose negative impact was more than statistical. He killed the offense completely. Single-handedly took all flow out of the game for stretches. Edwards misses just felt like regular misses.

Whatever, there was good and bad. Fun team. Should be a fun season.

cal doesn’t have the built in excuse about his defense to keep him on the bench like he did for D. A11EN

Reed is absolutely our best perimeter defender right now. This is a battle that cal will not win

*Dickinson does not go off against an athletic big like Bradshaw and we most likely run them out of the gym. He's a slow oaf who feasted on a small lineup.

Yep...SR AA POY candidate would get shut down by a freshman. And slow, skilled oaf's who know how to play "basketball" usually suck....just ask those athletic bigs who guard Jokic.

Hey bub...nobody believes you stayed up to watch the game.
-I did not. I made it until about 10 or so to go in the second half, you know, when we weren’t playing those guys anyway. Reed with 16 minutes is an absolute laugher of a coaching decision.

-Hoping Edwards is just adjusting to the big stage and doesn’t end up like Carrier the practice/summer legend.

- Not out on DJ at all, BUT am out on him playing with Reeves and 3 forwards.

Let’s see him with Shep/Dillingham and Reeves - where you can’t sag.

- I don’t see it with Edwards- and been saying that. At least not in comparison to his pedigree.

That said, I may be underselling his D last night.

1) Play stifling defense.
2) Look to score in transition.
3) Pass first, pass second (and probably pass third) before shooting in HC offense.

Basically be the PG that Marquis Teague was in 2011-12. 10ppg with a 5:2 ATO ratio.

That's it. Not asking too much.

Overall, I was encouraged last night. Cal did his thing and micromanaged the **** out of the last 10 minutes but the players didn't help, either. Reeves throwing up 15 blanks from deep and Robbbbb deciding to go rogue on D on 2 critical possessions really sank us last night.

Thoughts:

- Deej isn't a great NBA prospect to me. And he's probably going to have the toughest adjustment from HS, where before he could easily manipulate the game w/ his bully ball and get to his spots w/ ease. But, so far, he hasn't shown that same ability to get to the rim/finish over similar bodies. Part of that is how defenses are playing him, too. Time and time again last night KU went under the ball screen and dared him to shoot over the top. His release is slow and low. He doesn't play above the rim and he isn't an elite facilitator, either. I don't know what his reference point is and I don't see a ton of upside.

He'll definitely imrpove and 'get his' or whatever but my concern is starting to grow with the sample size thus far. He's a ball stopper and looks 10X more 'AAU-ish' than Rob, which was totally unexpected.

- Adou was awesome (regardless of his absurd +/-) but I still think he needs to hunt his shot even more, especially when he has an open 3 within the flow of the offense. Don't hesitate.

- Edwards is in a difficult spot being a 3/4 tweener. I thought maybe we were getting an RJ Barrett -- but it looks like maybe Kelly Oubre? I don't mean that as bad it sounds but still. He's got to be stronger in traffic and play through contact. He loses the ball frequently and doesn't seem to understand what his role is yet. Hopefully they'll figure it out with him.

- Shep is him. Absolutely worship. @ksta nailed his take. Can't say much more than what he already posted.

Edwards came up with some 50/50 balls that helped kill some KU possessions, especially on long rebounds. I thought he tried to fight through an obviously tough offensive night for him. That's the sign of maturity and mental toughness. DJ did the same. They completed even when it wasn't their night.

Edwards had a taped wrist and then landed on it in the first half. I don't know if that had something to do with it or not.

The jury is still out on this team. It's too early to overanalyze them. Too small of a sample size. What there is plenty of evidence of is how our coach manages games under the 4:00 time out. That proof presented itself again last night.

- Running Floppy with a two possession lead
- Unusual sub pattern (going Defense instead of offense)
- The last play for Reeves (was there a second option or was it just the screen/re-screen for the 3?

I think Cal will adjust. I really do. I think he sees it. The question will be how damn stubborn does he want to be about his old ways.

Ulis still on the bench I think? Sheppard had a few moments that were Tyler-esque last night. He was acting like it was an ordinary Tuesday night against the Somerset Briarjumpers instead of the Kansas Jayhawks. The kid has it.

Thiero's number is bonkers. Chalk that up to who he was on the court with, I guess?

Has to be. I know Burks number was aided because he was in during the time Dillingham went nuclear.

What I found most promising last night was that Kansas is a legit #1 and represented themselves as such and we still were right there until the end only 3 games into the season. If KU missed every perimeter shot or Dickinson or Daniels sat out the game for some reason, I'd feel differently. Instead, we got their best shot and even had one of their ******** who averaged 1 point per game make 5 threes.

I just hope we have some clarity on our big men soon. I just don't trust Cal not to completely disrupt our style and murder our guard heavy rotation because he wants to play multiple bigs at once.

Rob passing the ball up ahead to Reeves for that transition 3 was my favorite sequence in years, I think. No joke.

17 year old kid on his first real big stage already on an absurd heater -- and has the selflessness to make the right play? In that moment? Incredibly heady and mature.

He'll drive us nuts of course but him looking for a teammate in that instance was boner soup. He could have easily launched but man oh man. I love love love me some Rob Dillingham.

We only had 8 players last night. Not like we had many options on subs but I agree on Reed playing more.
I also think a lot of it was the first big game and we tired down the stretch going against their bigs all night.
Put the ***** bus back in the garage until we get a big. At least it was entertaining and I got to have a feeling of hope most of the game unlike previous years.

Pretty sure Cal didn't tell Dilly to leave Collins wide-effing-open on consecutive trips
Yup, Collins tore us up. Cole Aldrich was unstoppable as well.
Reeves was 3-17 from 3. Jesus

DJ/Edwards 1-18!!! 🤮

I thought Cal had an excellent game plan, Kansas was mostly a mess. Harris went Redick & our guys folded late.

Ending sucked ***. But I thought he coached one of his better recent games overall, Just didn’t have the dudes in the end.

Instead of being embarrassed vs #1 as expected, it was & is basically the opposite. STFU with any lectures about history, as it’s irrelevant.

We’re one of the best teams in CBB, as proven tonight, unlike…

I’m a 60/40 guy. I put as much effort into FB as anyone, plan my whole goddam life around it annually, but about to be Chad style on you hypocrite bitches.

Draymond is a c*nt *****.
True, but you love having him on your team or as a teammate. That’s a fact. Just like Gretzky forcing the Kings to bring McSorley with him. Those scorers love knowing if a scuffle(because calling NBA kerfuffles a fight is a disservice to the word fight) breaks out you know in less than 2 seconds your boy is coming to clean house no questions asked.

When will be the next high scoring game between two top 20 teams? 173 points scored in the game last night.

Overall that was a high level game last night for CBB.

One of the best regular season games I’ve watched since the Las Vegas game against UNC with Monk and Fox.

Just closer to what college bb needs to be.
