Had high hopes for Shamar Porter, thought his game looked like T.O., but if he couldn't even get a snap on this team, that's on him. Hitting the portal is not surprising for a kid who had a camera crew following him around his HS Sr year. He may be one of the ones Stoops talked about needing to move on.

What a **** of a basketball game. Their coach had us well-scouted. Feels like a blueprint. Wagner fixes that, potentially, with his ability to get to the rim in the half court. He should be the one guy with the ability to lock down someone like Trazerian White, as well. Sky's still the limit, I guess. Just gets tougher to reach with less time to develop chemistry.

Actually ended up with a great bowl draw. Gonna be fun rooting against Dabo.

Levis was really fun to watch in the 1st half yesterday. Couple of 2021-LSU-game-esque plays. I feel bad for him because the Titans absolutely suck. With Henry out for most of the game, it felt like Levis was trying to carry them to a win. The OL gave up 6 sacks and two consecutive blocked punts. He wasn't perfect passing, but the pass catchers dropped at least 5 that were very catchable. He still drives them down for the game winning TD and they botch the extra point. Then he drives them for the go ahead FG in OT, and the defense proceeds to get smoked and lose the game.

Coached a 1st grade basketball game Saturday. Wild. Kids just wandering off the bench onto the court during play. Couple of tackles. One kid had two injuries in about two minutes of play. Parents and coaches are on the court checking on him, and I look up and the clock is still running. I look over and the operator is flipping through tik-tok. At one point a kid got a rebound after a make and hit a second shot. The tik-tokker gave them 4 points.

This is the third “travel basketball” season I’ve coached my little girl and her group of 4th graders. It’s 90% the same group that I have coached for three years in softball too. We have some very physical little girls that will probably cause me to fight an opposing coach or parent before long. They aren’t out there trying to hurt kids but they will absolutely not let you dribble or hold the ball in front of them. Other teams fans and coaches don’t see it that way. Oh well. Wayne county was this weekends victim.

There’s literally not a thing I would rather be doing in the world. I haven’t had but a handful of free weekends for the last three years and honestly half the time I think the girls Al are more about the in between game shenanigans but I remember doing the same **** at that age with my dad. That’s what it’s all about gentlemen.

-I'm gonna amend my reaction to the loss. I'm still gonna have fun rooting for this team... but after ruminating on Cal's post-game comments... they enforce my longtime gut feeling that Cal is a selfish/petty child. UK basketball won't be truly enjoyable til that fat **** is gone.

Was just perusing some of the Kentucky Basketball stats this morning...

I was shocked to see per 40 minutes, Reed Sheppard and Robb Dillingham are averaging more rebounds than Justin Edwards.

Robb - 7.6 rpg
Reed - 6.8 rpg
Justin - 6.3 rpg

Edwards is also getting less than 1 steal per 40 as well. Crazy, with his length and 'should-be' ability to jump the passing lanes. He's simply not productive or efficient while 3rd in minutes played.

I comp'd Oubre a couple weeks ago as a 'worst case' -- well he's charting below him statistically so far. *added* that for context, Oubre only clocked about 21 mpg that entire season, which is about where Edwards needs to be right now (if not less). Getting wayyy too much run for the production being given.

Grief.

Don't even need to analyze this on a per 40 minutes to see how bad it is. Rebounds per game:
  1. Adou Thiero - 7.0
  2. Tre Mitchell - 6.0
  3. Antonio Reeves - 4.8
  4. Reed Sheppard - 4.5
  5. Rob Dillingham - 4.4
  6. Justin Edwards - 4.4
Somehow Edwards is 3rd in mpg on this team. But 9th in FG% and 7th in 3FG%.

I can't think of a single thing he's doing well this season, other than stealing other people's minutes.

Kinda weird that I was angrier after the game than during. Rupp has a reputation for being quiet as a tomb when it's a no-name opponent and/or when the team is not performing to expectations but on TV that crowd was as loud and full as you might expect for a.big game. The fans want to believe so bad and we keep getting the SOS from Cal and I feel like a fool for my exuberance after Miami. I feel stupid even typing this but !I'm just going to hope this was a one-off and win about the next 10 in a row.

At some point - when you realize that other people are just as athletic as you - you have to figure out how to play basketball. We’ll see if Edwards gets there, but right now he’s definitely Cal’s “he’s playing no matter what” guy.
This is a good post and I agree. Cal seems to love athletic 6’8 guys regardless of how well they play.

That shot is broken. It looks like a shot taken by a guy who is an undersized center in the 80's and 90's.
I see that three pointer go up and I have no confidence it will be in the zip code.

Edit- The way it clangs off the backboard and rim reminds me of 8-10 year olds, shooting pregame, knowing coach would never let them shoot from out there. They are just jacking it up.

I honestly think Wagner and Edwards will benefit from Bradshaw more than anyone.

Almost as if we’ll have to have two different teams with two different strategies to their play.

Knowing what I do of Cal I think it’s why he has kept Shep/Dillingham as a two some and Wagner/Edwards as a two some.

All that said I was honestly shocked to hear about Cal’s post game comments. Dumbfounded really.

I mean you can be confident a kid can handle that, and know those parents will overlook it, but good lord read the room here a little because if either of them get as unprofessional as coach over those comments publicly like him then you are single handily sabotaging your support system.

What a short sighted ignorant think to do or say. Yikes.

And they say size doesn’t matter.

It’s been the same song and dance for a decade now. We were all afraid what he would do when he got a big back and, at least for one game, he went right back to what he is comfortable with. He is also going to play Edwards come hell or high water. We already have the next batch ready to come in and take his place so he has to show him off as much as possible. Happens every year.

3’s to Cal is like the passing game is to Stoops. They both give it lip service but when it comes down to it neither one is really all that comfortable with the idea.

Eh, it is what it is. However. 11-5 the last 16 games at Rupp is unfathomable.

Vandagriff now in the portal.

I don't want any QBs who look like they'd rather be going to a Widespread concert.

Yeah, I’m getting more and more pissed about it. All he had to say was, “yeah, Shep played well offensively but he gave up a bunch of straight line drives.” The “your favorite player” thing was contemptuous.

He knows exactly what he’s doing. He tried to backtrack a tad by saying there were too many others to list that did the same thing but the cat was out of the bag. But he constantly has to remind us of our place, and that is to bow down to his greatness.

We are at the point in this relationship where we are barely hanging on and every time something nice happens (Miami) we are ga-ga for a few days and then a dish gets left on the counter instead of being put in the dishwasher (UNCW/Sheppard comment) and we are right back at it again.

Edwards is in a long line of top ten recruits we’ve had recently that is athletic but unskilled. He’s being given a chance to play through it and have the switch come on, and he has about a month. If it’s not on by SEC play then he’ll start getting his minutes reduced.

Seeing Bradshaw and Mitchell in there together 🤢. I guess I don’t know what I was hoping for, but all I saw was Wagner, Reeves, Edwards, Mitchell, and Bradshaw being played as our primary lineup like some sort of PTSD nightmare. Sad to say I just don’t trust our coach.

Until we start defending, all the offensive lineup stuff is pretty irrelevant, imo. We're gonna be able to score on about anyone save a rare turd game, but when you can't stop anyone, that puts a lot of pressure on the O to be near perfect. Gotta be able to grind out games when on bad shooting nights, etc.

It's really bad. (currently 65th AdjD)

Edwards is infinitely more skilled offensively than the long list of ****** wings Cal has force fed into the lineups lately. However, he just seems way too weak with the ball and is untrustworthy when trying to score a contested shot in the paint.

Ultimately, my concern with Cal and having a big(s) at his disposal is that he will absolutely resort to the old offensive system and constantly trying to post the ball when the offense has any sort of struggle. It's his instinct and he possesses no other tactic in his personal repertoire that would support the "random" basketball approach.

I expect Welch will look like he wants to vomit witnessing it.

Baseball players or college FBall coaches with the better contracts?

In 2024, Max Scherzer is the 2nd highest paid player on the Mets, 3rd highest on the Nationals and 4th highest on the Rangers…

Well Prof. Kooky, I haven't been in an English class for 23 years (at least) and forgot there are "Attributive Nouns".

The apostrophe is omitted when a plural head noun ending in s functions as an adjective rather than as a possessor; in other words, when the relation between the plural head noun and the second noun could be expressed by the prepositions 'for' or 'by' rather than the possessive 'of': carpenters union, New York Mets first baseman. If the plural form of the head noun does not end in s, however, the apostrophe is used: the people's republic, a children's hospital. This convention explains the absence of an apostrophe in such proper nouns as Teachers College (in New York City), Department of Veterans Affairs, and Consumers Union...
