Sprewell, who was 24th in the 1992 NBA draft, played for several teams, but he was infamous for his altercation with Golden State Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo. After Carlesimo criticized his passing, Sprewell fought his coach and choked him. He then returned, after showering, and punched Carlesimo, before being dragged away by assistant coaches. He had also previously fought with other teammates, threatening one with a plank of wood and a gun.

The last couple of weeks of college basketball got me thinking...

Could this be the year that a 16 seed beats a 1 seed? There's going to be at least one pretty crappy 1 seed this year and it's come pretty close to happening a few times in the last 10 or so years. I think it will happen in my lifetime and I'm not sure there's a been a better year for it to happen than this one.

Dennis, great post by you. Quality stuff there.

For all of the front court talent UNC has they certainly don't play with much fire.

When Paige struggles with his shot they are an average team at best as the rest of their guard play is a shitshow.

That's the book on them. Problem is Paige is streaky and Justin Jackson has a little too much Darius Miller in him (the underclassmen years). IF they're both playing well, though, UNC is one of the best teams in the country.

Congrats on the W last night, Chad! Man, this UofL W is so awesome for us and the Cats. I can already feel it!

-Basketball was a blast. Thanks again BD and BBdK for organizing. It was nice meeting some old internet friends for the first time. Hope it's nothing serious, krazy. See you jimmies next Monday.

"I don’t know if you know a lot about any job until you get there and know everything, but I’ve known John for a long time,” Barnes said. “He’s a true friend, he really is. He’s somebody that if I’ve ever needed something and called him and tried to start explaining it, he’d say, ‘Just stop; what do you need?’ That’s the kind of friend he is.

“I trust him to know that he would never tell me anything he didn’t believe. He wouldn’t just say something to say it. His exact words were that he thinks this is one of the top jobs in this league and can be as good as anybody. He actually said to me, he said, ‘You need to take that job.’

“And he said, ‘I don’t like the way you’re being treated there (at Texas) right now, and you ought to take the (Tennessee) job.’”

“And you know what? That (negative talk) is jealousy. People that try to say he’s not a good coach, that’s just … it somewhat borders on ignorance, to be honest with you. I mean, John Calipari has won everywhere he’s been, and he hasn’t always had the best players. And I don’t think people realize what it’s like to have a group of great players to coach. It’s one the hardest things I’ve learned in this business. I actually said this to the team the other day, but when I was at George Mason and Providence and Clemson, I said, ‘Boy, I wish I could have a job where you get all those great players.’ But, one, it’s not as easy as everybody things to get ‘em, and two, when you get ‘em, it’s totally different, because you have to teach so much. Understand that everywhere they go play, they’re somebody’s Super Bowl. They’ve got the A-team from the TV and probably radio, too.

“For anybody to think he’s not a great coach … I mean, he’s one of the greatest, I’m telling you. I mean, look at where he’s been and what he’s done everywhere and how he’s done it. And he's not afraid to speak the truth, and because of that, some people don’t like him. And he’s not afraid to take people on, either.”

“He’s very loyal,” Barnes said. “I know how he is with the media. If he feels like you’re not fair with him, he’s gonna let you know it, which he should. A lot of coaches won’t do that. I think he’s as real a coach as there is in this game. I know him, too, on a personal level. I know him in a different way, too. I know how kind and generous he is and the way he goes about things."

Doug Gottlieb eating those cupcakes *almost* made me quit college basketball forever.

So apparently when Jay Williams started working at ESPN, Doug Gottlieb did everything he could to undermine him, mock him, make him uncomfortable, etc. It's nice to know that sometimes your gut feeling that someone is a pure ******* turns out to be correct.

Also great to hear that Jay Williams wanted to come to Kentucky before Tubby botched his recruitment. :100points::clap:

-Great time last night...that gym was a pleasant surprise for sure. I know it's quite a haul for most of you, but hopefully it's worth it for a few months each winter. Appreciate everyone showing up -- nice no show, Petter.

...outside shot of us getting it moved to a much more convenient gym in time, she's working on it.

Feel bad for Krazy, he had just drained a few jumpers...we weren't 10 minutes into the 1st game.

<-------- was completely done after "halftime" of the session. Christ. Hard to imagine I (we) used to play for hours and hours and hours once upon a time. #humbling. That definitely seems like forever ago.

Props to the non-basketball players, BellyDancer & Bucket especially for hitting the boards like madmen. Just like a bad golfer who plays fast & doesn't slow up the group, the garbage guys can play with anyone when they stick with what works the most.

-Feet are flat killing me. Dunno if it's a combo of the shoes, them being new, me not playing ball like that in a decade, or all 3...but they feel like someone took a baseball bat to them.

Richie wins the first MVP, wasn't even close really. Guy had bounce all game & was obviously way further along basketball-wise compared to the group who probably had about a 5 year "haven't played basketball" average going...and that's being generous. Watch those shuffle feet tho, bud.

Hell, UL straight shitcanned Denny Crum (with the fans blessing) 15 years after he won a NCAA title for simply not winning enough (note the NCAA probation didn't mean anything to them then either). I think UK fans can justifiably hate Rick Pitino almost 20 years after his run for coming back to coach an instate rival, being a little ***** for his entire tenure, getting caught up in a sex scandal, taking potshots at us whenever possible and also, whores.

Shouldn't being smart enough to flip your left hand backwards to make an L rule you out of going to Louisville?

- Hips and obliques are the two areas I always notice being the most sore the day after some pick-up. Been awhile, though, so I'm sure many other areas as well.

- The Cats have been HUNGRY four straight games. Let's keep it up tonight. I don't know how any UK fan can't be enjoying this team right now. We have our issues like everyone else, but this is a likable squad that has made some big leaps with even more room to grow. Enjoy the Tyler Ulis Experience, because this is probably the last two months of it.

- The Bolden whispers get louder...what a monster class that would be.

- Our bigs are shaky, no doubt, but I look across the country, watching these games every night and whose bigs aren't shaky this year? Louisville has a poo-poo platter. Oklahoma is thin as can be inside. Love Spangler but that's about all they have. Kansas's bigs aren't much better than ours without the Phog whistle. UNC's bigs SHOULD be really good, but they're surprisingly inconsistent. Villanova? lol Michigan State? They're decent.

- Everybody hates February...except me. I love it. You usually get some snow. You have conference college basketball and the Cats are usually starting to come together. You can see fabulous, lovely March on the horizon.

- @assistbyhawkins, still down to get together for that game on Saturday?

Oh and I would have given my left nut to have Jay Williams on those Bogans/Prince teams.

Couldn't stop elite penetrating guards, & lack of understanding of how to properly build a team. Always been a huge Coach K weakness.

Nope- love how those teams were built. Times change, though, and K's squads obviously had a pattern of flaws that hurt them in the NCAAs despite great seeds from '05 on.

Did UK
show up for ball last night? I doubt he did since he sent me a text from the UNC/UL game. Way to **** the bed, heels.
