I saw a "Due Date" celebration a few weeks ago on the Facebook. Kid born early but wanted to celebrate the day kid was supposed to be born.

* Due Date Party, Beagle?! So that's an example of why I left FB years ago.

* Won't pretend I know jack about Vandagriff, but any QB (hell, any player) that was recruited to USC and went to Georgia and then says "I think I can be successful at Kentucky" tells me we may not be where we want to be, but we sure as hell aren't where we used to be!

* Several Nerfoops were destroyed back in the day playing as Kenny Walker. I realize both references (Nerfoop and Sky) date me but those were some fun days as a kid.

Not in this thread, brother. I was a Davender man myself, but some of my first memories involve Cawood calling him SkyWalker and my Dad berating Joe B. Hall.

True, WCC. It was definitely Davender for the clutch free throws and mid-range but it was Walker or Blackmon if you were trying to throw down on someone.

HOTSTOVE! Hate seeing the Yanks giving up Michael King, but quite intrigued by the thought of Juan Soto wedged between Judge and Stanton with that commodious right field porch. Best natural swing I’ve seen since Griffey Jr.

Again, need a few decent starters, and a lefty bullpen presence. Leggo.

Company holiday party tonight at some City ********. Back in the day, I’d close the place down, now I’m there for a cameo appearance. Mature, not old.

Saturday is a non-stop prep day. Starting with fun… 5am trip to see Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center with lil man. It’s our thing to wake up early on vacations or random adventures. #blessed… back home for exterior / interior decorations and disassembling dining room to accommodate 3 8-tops for next week’s dinner, lasagna assembly line (Bolo perfection made last night),

My older son got a job in Winchester for a Pharmacy Tech gig. He’s jazzed. But has no car. He’s getting a wad of cash for Christmas, so if any you Lexiingtonians know of a nice used ‘10 Toyota RAV4 or equivalent for sale, lemme know.

Little man had crafted a one-item, beautiful (plea) list to Santa for a brown, mini Dachshund. Wife put the kaibosh on that. So much for the magic of life. Poor dude. Now we have zero idea what to get him as he’s holding on for a Hail Mary. Can’t wait for the tears and a pile of ignored **** we bought.🥺

Sitting on a bus for 1.25 hours now. Not natural.

-Woke up and decided to have my once every 2 months sunrise smoke. Man that’s a nice feeling, let’s just hope I can move out of the house by noon.

-Sampson would indeed be crushing at IU right now, perennially. Thanks basketball gods.

-Marquette and Arizona are definitely two of the best. If you’ve watched them play they are another level. Purdue isn’t there, Duke isn’t there, etc. our squad can definitely compete though if we go guard heavy.

* Back from a 5-day trip to Sacramento for the California International Marathon with a group of 9 of us, including 3 that ran for LSU in college and another that ran for Loyola.

- unfortunately our 2 fastest runners in the group got hurt
- in order to qualify to run in the Olympics, you have to finish top 3 male or female at the US Olympic trials
- to qualify for that race, you have to run a marathon faster than 2:19 (men) or 2:37 (women)
- CIM is the very last race on the calendar in order to qualify for the trials
- thus, it's an incredibly competitive field with very fast times
- I trained okay, but legitimately was only hoping for a 3:40-something
- got extremely dehydrated and cramped like a mf'er
- was still at an 8:20 pace with 7 miles to go, then crashed hard AF
- given all that, really just desperately wanted to keep my time halfway respectable, under 4 hours. Finished in 3:59:57

* Interview today for this cohort starting in January: Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses.

It's sort of a 4-month super intensive MBA-type program. Everyone I know that's taken part has raved about it, and I truly need it.

* Left Sacramento and headed to Wine Country for 2 days. Ho. Lee. Sheet. That place is unreal.

- our air bnb was on about 2-3 acres, with a very small vineyard, chicken coop, some horses, 2 houses, pool, outdoor kitchen, fire pits, etc.
- went absolutely HAM at Buena Vista, got totally wasted, bought and shipped home all kinds of stuff we don't even remember, etc
- also did another wine tasting at some tiny little low budget place right next to our airbnb. owner was just some good ole boy. wine won't win any awards but had to appreciate the love of the game, if you will.

* In Nick Krall I Trust.

- Candelario for 3 years
- Nick Martinez for 2
- Emile Pagan for 1

Adding really good, solid players to needed positions on team friendly contracts. That's how we win.

* Vecenie:

“I just love everything that I’ve seen from [Reed] Sheppard to this point,” Vecenie told KSR+. “He’s a basketball savant, very clearly. You look at his feel for the game. He hits these very early hit-ahead passes in transition. He’s able to play both on and off the ball in a way that’s very functional, both towards having success in college basketball and in the NBA, especially as it pertains to playing winning basketball.”

Be pretty cool if he were good enough to become a full time starter.

* Mark Cuban....

- sells the Mavs (to Sheldon Adelson's widow)
- quits Shark Tank
- runs for President???

* Dope. A good, solid, 7.5.

Time Person of the Year

* Book rec: Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Journey (Albert Lansing)

Tyler Kolek is unreal, man. Nothing fluky about that squad, and having the best guard in America never hurts. Shaka at that level is pretty special.

There is no clear #1 this year, and I expect it will stay that way. Although UConn sure is looking like they'll be right there by the end. Already looking really good, and haven't even had their full squad healthy & together -- that starting lineup is probably the best all around in CBB, imo. Newton looking like an AA, and Spencer proving to be a top portal pickup.

-Loved seeing that ***** Dickinson finally get some karma/punishment for his ways, but also chaps my *** that IU (riding high after the MONSTER road win vs 4-5 Michigan) now gets them in Assembly without the big guy. 🤬

Soto is sooooo good. Dude was hitting like .230 last year for a while with close to a .400 OBP. Even when he's slumping he's valuable. I think he's the best hitter in baseball by far.

Damn! I know as a FR you don’t want to rely on him to come in and be the starter, but to get out of this constant portal dependent system that’s what it took to get a guy experience and have someone long term in this world.

Which was my original point when I mentioned just give him the reigns.

Even a 1 year guy like Leary didn’t have enough time in a solid system with good to great talent around him to make it cohesive.

That is the issue we face.

But again, ecstatic for Vandagriff so it is what it is. Boley will be a stud somewhere.

The top teams in CBB right now are the same type of teams that the savants gush over by saying things like, "they just grind you into powder." The Arizonas. The Marquettes. The Houstons. The Purdues. The Tennessees. Yeah, they'll grind you into powder alright. They'll also grind themselves into powder as well. They're tough, but I ain't scared.

Where are the teams that grind you into a kaleidoscope? I want the pretty basketball teams, please.
*************************
We took our team down to Nashville last night to watch the Battle of the Boulevard. Cool atmosphere but the basketball was pedestrian, at best. Saw some dudes I had to scout against back a few years ago. Lipscomb battled all the way back from down 18 and took the lead only to get nipped by 1 at the wire. In person, you can definitely tell the difference between high seed talent vs. low seed talent.

Highlight of the night was having to forcefully yell at a street thug outside of Hattie B's who was threatening to "drop" one of our sophomores if he called him the n-word again. Our young fella was walking with most all of the people of color on our team. The dude seemed schizophrenic or high on bath salts. Neither is ideal. Thankfully his lady friend helped him stand down and we were able to enjoy some Hot Chicken before the contest.

I should restate... best pure hitter in baseball by far. He's also only 25 years old and third in active OPS slightly behind Trout and Judge. I think he'll soon take the lead on that.

Again...that makes no sense. "Pure" can be defined countless ways.

Trout, Judge, Acuna, Alvarez, Ohtani, Seager, Betts, Altuve, and a slew of others are more rounded hitters than Soto "now". Not denying how good he is, and he may or may not resurrect his '21 season, but I would guess the short porch in YS will be to his liking and his numbers will go back up.

I mean, that sounds a little ridiculous?

If true, Good luck with the P5 program that currently has + continues to recruit zero other quality QBs after your commitment, bc it doesn’t exist.
Cutter and Destin Wade are going to have a spirited competition this spring to be the starting QB at the University of Narnia next year.

It’s the portal. He can go to WKU next year, play. and transfer out to anywhere with an opening.

I know they gave players rights because coaches can leave, but they really need to limit to 1 transfer without a sit out period of 1 season.

This is a freaking joke!

Coaches, at least as far as I know, have never had 4 different jobs in a 4 year span like players can get.

Also, smart AD’s have buyouts so maybe we need those in place too for players?

Something has got to change.
