There we go, 4.5 year old Chad keeping stats at a Bowl Game in between bites of Mott's Applesauce. Knew he'd chime in with some false swagger sooner or later.

Learn Dyron Nix, then holla.

First UKFB player, I specifically remember is Marc Logan. Vague memories.

Actually used to watch Ohio State all the time back then because they always replayed the games on Channel 64 Sunday mornings and I used to get up early and watch them before Mass. I loved Cris Carter. Quickly grew out of that, but was a Notre Dame fan- Tim Brown, Tony Rice, Ricky Waters, Chris Zorich, etc. UK football was rarely on TV. We watched when they were, of course.

First UK football game at Commonwealth was '86 or '87 I believe. Played Akron.

Chad being a Notre Dame fan goes against everything he preaches to everyone about nonstop with regards to fandom & rooting interests. I'll never understand it. Why aren't you a Cubs fan? I know you had WGN.

<------ hopes ND loses every game from now until I die.

I don't know your Jeremy Story stories. But the next time I play golf with him I'll ask if he knows you.

If there is one thing about the folks from Western Ky, it's that they love to testify how their high school heroes are some of the greatest-that-never-were legends in the history of organized sports.

30 for 30 needs to get down there and do a story about Kip Bochamp, the 6'4 225 pound son of a strip miner that could run a 4.25 40 in pads, once made 17 consecutive 3s against Dawson Springs in a summer game at Livingston Central, and could regularly hit 99 on the radar gun ( and that's only because the gun didn't go to triple digits).

I think Kip went to Murray on a golf scholarship (maybe Austin Peay?) but ended up getting his high school sweetheart pregnant and had to go back home two days after classes started. He just opened up a brand new BBQ shack in Princeton, but I bet he could still run a sub-5 second 40 even though he is 54 now lol. Greatest pure athlete I ever saw.

Learn NKy and growing up Catholic. Damn near every sports fan friend I had in grade school and high school rooted for the Irish- not to mention my dad.

Chief has always been jealous of my Jeremy Story stories.

Jacob is the dude who has a 2nd hand story about EVERYONE from anywhere he's ever lived, but never knew a single person he's talking about b/c he wasn't cool enough to actually be 1st Hand/involved.
I don't know how to respond because I really don't have any stories. The only one I really have happened at Auburn. Are you suggesting I wasn't there? And believe me, that didn't make me cool.

Notre Dame and Ohio State are the football equivalent of UNC and Duke to me.

Christians have a well documented history of burning people at the stake, guess setting pledges on fire was a natural progression.

-pookie was probably the first player I remember.

-lots of my friends were ND fans. Catholics.

-I don't really get the bourbon craze. I mean none of the high end stuff is notably better than say Blanton's, which is my favorite, and pretty accessible. I do participate but it's gifts for a good manager that loves it.

-shew, single in lex(or any city) and these bar sponsored weekday run clubs would be my go to for real life hook ups. West 6th was crawling tonight.

Pookie Jones may be one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Maybe too nice if that makes sense. My oldest gets lessons at the baseball school he runs and everytime I've seen him outside of the place he goes out of his way to come talk to me. He is one of the best hitting coaches in Lexington.

He was supposed to call me about a coaching vacancy and never did. Pretty hurtful.

Shorts:

- Anth is full of ****.

Science has proven that your post-drinking routine isn't going to do anything to stop your hangover.

-
"Hard Knocks" is such a great. O'Brien seems like the kind of guy you'd want to play for.

- Nothing burns up the Protestants like Catholics rooting for the Irish. Look, I don't consider myself a ND fan at all, but I do like to see them do well.

- What's the date of the GYERO Keeneland trip this year?

- I get being fed up with NFL overkill, BUT it's still something I keep up with. I don't watch games all Sunday or anything but can't understand being totally dismissive like a few of you are. Of course, that may be because I actually have a squad (although I'm completely self-loathing about it).

- The difference in clientele at Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks downtown is amusing. Even the hot chicks at DD are a little rough around the edges.

- @Wildcat Willy- you getting to any games with-or-without-wife this season or is coaching the Loveland Ladybugs going to take up all your free time?

- Downtown Cincy has opened 3 new hotels here in the last two years. All really nice.

- Any of you NKyers or Cincinnatians have thoughts on this streetcar? I'm curious how it turns out.

- One new trend I have nothing for is the downtown bike rental. I really don't get renting a bike for $8. I'm fine walking, and if not, grabbing a cab.

- Horseshoe Casino up here is a pretty cool place. They use the front for concerts and it's a damn good venue. And now, they're opening a rooftop bar which will be perfect with views of OTR, Mt. Adams and downtown. Sounds like somewhere ABH and I could get into a little trouble sometime this fall.

- I couldn't give a **** less about missing the fireworks up here on Sunday, but would've liked to take the lass to the redneck extravaganza known as the Alexandria Fair. Show her my roots. Island girl has never been to a county fair before. Hell, I haven't been in probably 10 years.

- Some of me does miss the Louisville season opener- roll down to Louisville Friday, get F'd to hell with BBdK and whoever else, wake up and go tailgate in the most depressing tailgate area in the US, roast during the game and then try to get out that night.

Come on down next year, won't be the opener, but it's much more enjoyable during real football weather. Basically just SAE & I against the world these days....of course, it's always cool having that UK-Bruce Tailgate to fall back on.

Last year was a blast, didn't catch a word all day, and watched the game through the Glass on a barstool inside the PNC Club chugging bottomless bourbons, which is admittedly a pretty awesome way to watch a game, or at least that one. It was probably half UK fans in there, too.

Tim Couch's H.S. team was in the same district as my H.S. team back in the day, so I got to watch him when he was a mere freshman lobbing bombs and throwing darts all over the place. I remember thinking, "I think this kid might be REALLY good," but not knowing if he was legit good or just "eastern Kentucky good." Still amazes me that a place like Leslie Co. produced that dude.

- I still wonder if Couch has landed anywhere BUT Cleveland, if he would've succeeded.

- What to think about Bolden? He's one of those weird studs with no buzz (to us) who has basically admitted that UK and Duke are his leaders.

- Madness is LOADED. Giles, Monk, Bridges and Alkins.:fire: I hate these people who act like Madness isn't a good recruiting tool because recruits rarely commit right after. Calipari won't take a commit on a visit.

wtf? That really sucks...

This really pisses me off. CBS didn't renew his contract, how is that even possible?
He obviously works for the golf channel already so it wouldn't surprise me to see him doing golf channel and NBC stuff now. Probably already had an offer from them or even FOX and this wasn't really a CBS thing.

Pookie had a brother that was one year older than he and was a better football player. Unfortunately he was mildly retarded and couldn't get in to any schools. His name was Fred. Got to play against Pookie for 2 years. It was fun watching him.

Are you sure you PLAYED against Pookie, or like me, ride the bench and watch the starters play against Mark Higgs ?

Blake Boyd was the best player to come out of the Best Town On Earth in a while. He flat leveled people at LB and ran the option at QB pretty damn good. 6'4 230 lbs at QB he was hard to bring down. But he took too many hits to the head, forged his grades and got kicked out of WKU. Great kid, now is a fireman at MFD.

In the mid 90's pre-internet era the legend of Couch grew more and more via newspaper, grainy local news highlights, Cats Pause and word of mouth.

The Duece was like this Paul Bunyan type living legend from the mountains. Never forget on the way to the UK vs UL bball game in Decenber of 95 listening to his announcement live on the bball pregame show from the Hyatt. The Big O almost fainted on the air when he choose UK.

We then went on to kick UL's *** by 20 plus while Double mf'n Ohh went off for 30. That was a great day.

WTF are you talking about? Fred was smart as hell. Made good grades and came from a great family. He went to Louisville and played under Schnellenberger and started at wide receiver as a freshman.

Hilarious YOU would call someone mildly retarded. Jesus you are horrible.

Eric Gray. Was supposed to be the heir to Pookie. Had a good season at a California JUCO and had a legendary arm. Everyone thought he'd take the program to the next level. Signed in December, tried to transfer to Houston before ever reporting to UK, so he lost his scholarship, but ended up coming anyway as a walk-on. But was so fat(FAT) that he never got above 4th on a depth chart. Was even stuck behind Matt freaking Hobbie.

Never played a down. Was the football version of Gunther Behnke.
