I'd love to get redass over this team on Dec 10 but last year took a lot out of sails. I mean, every game was an absolute grind and as a result I didn't get much enjoyment out of it. Pathetic as it may be or whatever -- it's true. But as far as this year goes.... I liked the team on paper from the get-go and still think there is good potential to go and get #9 -- as good a chance as anyone else, at least.
But my take so far on these dudes:
Not worried about the outside shooting. Lawson nailed it last night noting that these guys are better shooters than the percentages indicate, and is merely a product of poor shot selection right now. As these guys play together more and more, the spacing will improve. Once they figure out what to do w/ Skal -- it will really click. As it stands now, the big Haitian is completely lost out there, and it makes the guards look bad too as a result.
^ Which brings me to Skal ---> yikes. He's much more raw than I thought. He has zero confidence right now and Cal riding his *** after every mistake doesn't seem to be helping, as mentioned above me. When coach finally relents and accepts he's soft 4 and brings him away the basket, the better off we'll be ultimately. I get that he needs to try to make him a 5, but it isn't going to happen, IMO. Kiddo is pushed off his spots too easily, doesn't compete down low, and doesn't understand help side/angles/anything related to defense. Even his 'natural instincts' are a tad slow, which is even scarier, as the other stuff can be taught. His window is still open to improve but he's got a lot farther to go. Hope Cal can get through to him and put him in the right positions to be successful.
