I just want one Riley lachance. One of them. I'm not saying I dislike a kid like Stacey Matthews or Charles Poole but I think I'd rather have a Riley lachance in that role. Just something I think cal should consider when assembling his teams but hey I'm just a nice guy having fun on the web

This freshmen class is suspect overall, but Cal made a couple mistakes- taking Matthews before Kennard (not sure if it would've made a difference) and passing on Bragg/Bryant, both of whom would've really helped this team.

Perimeter shooting is, unfortunately, a nuisance to Cal.

Overall, I agree with the point, but consistent outside shooting usually is a nuisance for freshmen. That's one smart point I've heard Gottlieb make. Hell, even Booker was streaky last year.

Brewer was too skinny? I thought the same about Tayshaun back in the day. That beast is listed at 6-9, 212 at age 35 in year 13 of the NBA.

If only Tubby had seen that guy play.

Self was not happy with Greene's dunk at the end of the game last night.

“Brannen Greene, we’ve put up with him doing some stuff in the past, but that was probably the biggest dick move I’ve ever had a player do during a game. To dunk the ball like that when the other team. Even their players are going, ‘How disrespectful to the game.’ It certainly showed unbelievably poor sportsmanship.”

Self went further, starting his postgame press conference with an apology:

Not all mixtapes are created equal. And Fox's and Monk's tapes have more in common with Wall's than say Murray's or Briscoe's. That's not a bad thing.

Plus, we got Ulis back next season, to fill his role as leader of a National Championship team!!! Throwing lobs. Driving and dishing. Will be dope.

i just think if you added some loser ***, 3 star deadeye that is down to Toledo and western Michigan, that they would be able to bury 4-5 wide open 3's a game. I mean I know that I'm NOT a college basketball but this seems like common sense. Is cal too proud for these guys or something? I feel like he could pick and choose the best mid major talent sharpshooter in the country. They don't have to be able to dunk on a 12' goal or dribble like hot sauce. They can graduate and sell cars at Glenn Nissan for all I care. Just stand there and watch D'aaron fox shake 3 guys, drive to the hoop, catch release and bury. What am I missing here (and don't say defense)

I don't GAF about their mix tapes. Every recruiting analyst out there said this class of freshmen- much like 2012's senior class- was down. Every recruiting analyst out there has claimed the '16 class is loaded. Not all classes are the same. These dudes we are bringing in are bad SOBs.

With that said, would love Lee, Willis and Briscoe to return to provide leadership and experience. Of course, Ulis, too, but starting to doubt that.

I agree with you. If Cal's going to add these multi-year guys on occasion, I wish he would take some fliers on shooters. Good post.

Michigan football is getting ready to go on a UK basketball-like resurgence. Harbaugh is a star. Their signing day featured Brady, Jeter, Lou Holtz:rolleyes:, and Rick effing Flair. I'm a 5 star whatever, and I want to go play there.

9 of the top 40 individual 3 pt shooting %'s for a season in UK history have taken place with Calipari at the helm. So we usually have at least one shooter.

But I do agree that it would be nice to have a guy that you can count on to knock down open 3's.

They don't have to be little honks who can't play D, tho. See Ulis last year, Lamb and Booker.

Hopefully, once Hawkins gets his legs and wind back, he can give us another outside threat. He's never been a great shooter, but I don't think he's bad.

None of it will matter much if Lee doesn't get his act together.

If I'm Da'Squarius Greene-Thompson from Opelika, I don't care if they have Steve Austin giving a stunner to Jay-Z in front of Barack (HUSSEIN!) Obama; I'll go somewhere not in the upper Midwest and not coached by a future subject of a 2 hour Dateline episode. JMO

No, they don't have to be white, but I'd prefer if they didn't have one eye on the nba draft the second they sign their LOI. I mean I know booker wasn't a 5 star kid but he was a McDonald's all American. People always point to him as someone who Cal thought would stay but it's not like it's shocking he left or anything.

Idk. I know UK's problems this year aren't entirely perimeter related, but watching us get lit up by some SEC no-name while we clang 85% of our threes just drives me crazy.

Willis is the best 3 point shooter on our team % wise, seems like a good candidate for Rod Hatfield Chevrolet.

It was pretty surprising Booker turned into a OAD. Nobody saw that coming. Had a lot to do with the Warriors and Hawks NBA seasons, too.

If that was the norm under Cal, I'd agree. But somehow, we seem to have done ok over the last 6 years despite having players who are good enough to play in the NBA.

More than perimeter scoring, the biggest issue is that we pretty much let a bunch of teams that struggle to score, absolutely shred us. We've been in position in most of our losses, down 3-4 points late- but that seems like an insurmountable amount of points to make up since we're likely to give up a layup, putback, or put a team on the FT line.

I think it was the perfect storm for booker. Had he gone some place like Michigan or Illinois or something he would've had to play a bigger role and some of his flaws would've been magnified. The fact that UK was able to play him like an NBA team would want to play him, along with the fact that the nba was using guys like him more and more frequently, made him very attractive to nba teams. He's always been very physically attractive, obviously.

Lit up by SEC no names ???

Kevin Punter 48% fg shooter, 39% from 3, 83% ft shooter, AVERAGES 23 ppg. Yeah true no name.

Kareem Canty 41% from 3, 19ppg, 6.1 assist per game. He got lucky, Punter shot out of his mind against us. Both where just on that night against us. Nobody has great shooting nights on their home floor. had to be luck, they have never score 20+ in a game except us.

Bottom line: he's had great 3point shooters on his teams or he has tried to get great shooters.

Tried to keep Meeks, brought in Dodson, kept Jon Hood
Lamb,Miller, Knight
Lamb, Wiltjer, Miller
Wiltjer brought in Julius Mays
Harrison, Booker
Ulis,Murray, brought in Mulder, took a look at Rowan, Kennard went to Duke

Thursday Randoms:

- I suppose SAE is just playing his new snarky persona, but I've really enjoyed the Final 4 runs, especially coming off a two-coach 13-year drought. Those things are fun. 09/10 was a great time despite the upset. 10/11's F4 run was one of my all-time favorites. 13/14's run was probably my all-time favorite. Last year, we came thisclose to making history. Anyway, funny stuff, SAE. Keep it coming.

- Wow- you don't hear coaches lay into players like Self did with Greene very often. He obviously has some real issues with that kid as he's been in the doghouse more or less his entire career. It's funny with all the "recruit more shooters" talk- we're essentially wanting more Brannen Greene types, yet Kansas fans ***** about him as much as any player...usually for being one-dimensional and bad on defense.

- Loved the HBO doc on MKG's senior year. Not sure what took me so long to watch that. Just an amazing amount of talent up there in Jersey with St. Patrick, St. Anthony's and the other school. Hell, they even mentioned Paterson Catholic shutting down, which is where Tim Thomas went.

- "Jack" is such a great name.

- UK essentially recruited on a similar level as Oregon this year. :eek:kay:

- Thinking about adding some classic oxford buttondowns to my game this spring.

Ive been saying I'll get to the tournament out in Scottsdale for like 15 years and never really looked into it- then it comes around and I always wish i'd gone. Biggest issue is finding someone to go with, I guess. Most of my non-internet friends, even the ones who keep up with golf- had no desire to fly out to Arizona to watch golf for a day or two. And it falls at a time we are usually gearing up for SECT and other post season travel. Wish it was in May.

Go to The Players' Championship. It's in May, easier travel, better field, and #17 is still a hell of a lot of fun.
