This Is The End - Randoms

- There have been some weird posters get run and try to come back under a new identity, but I'm not sure I've ever seen one go all-in with the homo-erotic poop fetish. Usually a strong sign of childhood sexual abuse trauma. Sure hope not.

- Speaking of "The End," is there a better opening scene in cinema than Apocalypse Now? That song makes that scene.

- Speaking of the end - as in, the end of humanity - what's up with this comet that's somewhere around Saturn right now? My social media algorithm is full of conspiracy theory b.s. and UFO enthusiasts. Many are saying this "comet" is some sort of alien technology heading our way. Are they friendly or will they destroy us? We'll see!

- Speaking of we'll see, L1C4 fans are riding high right now. If Stoops finds a way to steal another one from them this year, it will reach 2016 levels of joy for me. Those sonsabitches need to be knocked down a notch or two. Same goes for basketball. A good, old-fashioned *** whipping would be just what the doctor ordered. For some reason, those fools have decided their athletic department is back being "miles ahead" of UK. Let's see if they're correct. We'll see you soon, lil' bro.

- I'm seeing more and more kids named "Maverick" lately. Surely these dumbass parents know that Tom Cruise's character in Top Gun was Pete Mitchell. Maverick was his call name. That's like naming a kid, "Rooster" or "Merlin." You don't put that down on a government document as an actual name. Come on, people.

- Through the years, I've noticed that you "miscount" beers way differently. In my youth, I'd exaggerate the number of beers we crushed at that party. Man we killed that keg and then went and polished off a Dirty 30!

Now if I have more than six, I'm hiding empty cans in the garbage inside bags of chips or under paper towels. Honey, you were on the patio listening to music for quite a while last night. How many beers did you end up drinking???

Oh, I only had about 4 or 5.

- Speaking of light American domestos, nobody cared to put that in their top 10 drink choices? That's cute. If Richie were still here, he'd be rolling over in his Peter Millar 1/4 zip. So now we're all too good for American domestics we grew up on? Maybe this place is getting back to normal after all.
That is an unbelievably awesome song.
Almost 12 minutes of AMAZING!!

I'm very confused by the poop troll. Most people that have a vendetta against this thread are either too dumb to piece together multiple sentences or just hang around and continue to post unfazed and this guy is going out of his way to create multiple new accounts to ultimately get banned.

Zach Calzada and Beau Allen will have a combined thirteen years of college football between them at the conclusion of the season.

* I take walks, work in the yard, etc explicitly so I can listen to podcasts without constant interruption.

The opportunity to listen to something I want to hear without an interruption every other minute is a rare luxury at this stage in life.

* Adam Luckett has an individual player breakdown on the other site. There are a number of guys who started out at big schools, got in trouble (including criminal), and had to do some rehab at JUCO or whatever Incarnate Word is before looking for a chance in the SEC.

That gives me at least some optimism, I guess. Still have no idea who any of these guys are, though.

* I'm worried that podcasts have largely replaced reading for me. Not sure how I feel about it.

-Obviously you know of audiobooks, I use them for the car and walks sometimes. A great way to keep up with your reading. I hate when people say “ITS NOT READING!!!!” As if they don’t ever zone out when reading and have to go back and reread a page or two.

-Speaking of reading, on a flat out tear this year. Not keeping up with Magliore42 or whatever his old handle was with a book a week, but I’ve polished off about 12 this year not counting audiobooks which is another handful.

-Walking you ask? Yup, great great activity to do a couple times a day, obviously we all know this but man, perfect way to get some time without electronics with your significant other or kids or friends. Much like anything physically/mentally difficult or challenging, the more you do it the more you want to do it and miss it on days you don’t. Walking after supper is just the cats pajamas in regards to feeling good before settling in for the night.

-Speaking of settling in for the night, the woman advised me to read on the couch before bed instead of in bed. That too has been a recent game changer. Get nice and sleepy on the couch listening to”quiet reading music” playlist on Spotify and once drowsy, move to bed and read a bit more or straight to dog cuddle/bonding time and sleep.

Some nights if I read in bed I can just keep plowing through a book which I enjoy that, but it’s time to be asleep post 11 and definitely by midnight.

WKU's QB is named Maverick McIvor. By the way, wish we had WKU's offensive coordinator. Hell head coach for that matter.

Cowboys documentary was very good.

Daily routine for drinks :
6:30 AM - One cup of McDonalds breakfast blend from the Keurig. (Do not have time for other choices and it works for me)
Water all day at work 8:30-5:00
3/4 Miller Lite in the bottle during the evening hours.
Water bedside for overnight
Coffee, water, and beer. That is it, that's the list. (90% of the time)

Man, go on and finish the rest of that beer. It'll be ok.

Water only for me. I am bougie (as the kids say) enough to only drink Fiji if it's available. Sometimes a splash of fruit juice to liven things up. West side of Lexington tap water is a close second. #oldandboring

LOL, 3 or 4 beers, not 3/4ths of one. I know you was joking, wasting 1/4th of a beer every night would be alcohol abuse.

-No, no it wouldn’t. If you throw out some water in a cup do you call it water abuse? Always thought that was such a ridiculous term. “Gotta drink it all or it’s alcohol abuse!!!!” Yeah they’re definitely not making more of it, no need to waste this precious commodity…

4 miller lites that’s 400 extra cals a day bubba. Just looking out for you. 😉

-One thing no one needs is MORE Cowboys, believe me they talk about them more than any other franchise, especially one that hasn’t won anything in 30 years, ridiculous.

-I drink 2-3 gallons of week of milk, when I told my primary once he looked at me like it was fetal blood and said, “WHY?!” Idk, because that’s what I had with every daggone meal as a kid doc. 🤷‍♂️ it’s delicious.

-Not much better than sending a friend a book and them texting you back when they finished it and loved it. Just love the feeling of swinging a pal a great yarn of a story.

-Books things; apparently Florida just banned The Diary of Anne Frank and Maya Angelou books in schools, weird, weird world we live in. You think Fayette county schools have problems?

Do you keep all the books you’ve read or pass them out, donate them to a library? I give them away or donate them unless my mom got them signed or someone wrote something significant in them personally to me because the book meant something to them and they wanted me to experience it too. Now I do keep some that I hold dear to my heart;
The Walking Drum-first book read because I wanted to read it,
Born To Run-because the lady gave it to me,
Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations-Pretty much the Bible for how to conduct yourself in life, be good to others, make yourself and people around you better humans, control your emotions, and be a quality human being in general. Also was responsible for my unquenchable dive into philosophy.
Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu-see Marcus Aurelius.
The Quartet-It’s the Founding Fathers bruh all you need to know,
Jocko Willink’s Discipline Equals Freedom-everyone I see it reminds me to quit complaining about whatever it is and go get **** done,
Prince Harry’s Spare-because my mom gave it to me and no one else wants it (also never read it 🤫,
everything by David Grann-he’s just a great storyteller.
There are probably a few more of which I’m not remembering.

They have these book & plant swaps here at breweries and coffeeshops. Pretty cool, show up with a book or a philodendron or whatever or both and exchange with someone else’s plant or book. If I were single that’s a great way to meet a cool chick I’d say. Only been to one, enjoyed nerding out on flora and literature with like-minded folks.

^maybe should’ve saved the book part for the return of Ursch, if that ever happens.

Off to some outdoor reading with the dog->sauna->cold tub.

Of course the resident "perfect lifer" hangs on every word of a post.

Having said that, how does one drink 2-3 gallons of week ? I have never drank ANY week, much less 2-3 gallons. Ha.

If you watched the Cowboys documentary and came away as "not good", you are just a hater. Tell you what though, obviously people CAN actually stand more Cowboys. You either love em or hate em, no middle ground. $12 Billion value, hate on ole Jerrah all you want, he gives no fks. ESPN needs to talk about them, Stephen A. hates them, they suck, yada yada, but has a discussion EVERYDAY about them. And a person who claims they do not pay attention to sports, why does it matter ?? HMMM.

I apologize for leaving everyone hanging about my drink choices, but here goes
1. Water Water Water- How people don’t prioritize drinking water bottles my mind.
2. 8-10 ozs of black coffee (Folgers) in the morning, during the week. I put cream and some variation of sugar in it on the weekends. 🤷‍♂️
3. OJ (non concentrated) I don’t mind a little pulp.
4. Water
5. Water
6. The Original V8. Love that stuff. I just had a cup of it with cookies. Sweet and salty 😍
7. Unless it’s vacation, I try and keep alcohol to the weekend. I don’t drink much beer, but if I do it could be a Coors Light, Coors Banquet, Bud Heavy, a local IPA at some watering hole. Otherwise it’s probably Wheatley’s vodka and Cranberry or a low to mid Kentucky bourbon. Evan Williams to Jim Beam. or anything in between. I can drink too much of it to go top shelf on anything. A Kentuckian who drinks TN whiskey should be water boarded with it IMO. No offense of course.
8. Water- with a splash of lemon

- Man I had a lot of great times on that barge. Worked at Remingtons, a Texas Roadhouse-type joint on the west end of the boat during the summer between my junior and senior years at UK. Spent quite a bit of time at the Beer Sellar, an early purveyor of the soon-to-be craft beer craze and JB Finns, the summer time only deck between Remingtons/Beer Sellar and Hooters. In fact brought in my 21st birthday there. Caught the ferry over to the Reds games many a’time - “take ya time, watch ya step.”

I’d put that barge easily in the Top 5 public houses I’ve consumed the most beers in my life. Have two dozen LOL memories off the top of my head right now. A

Have 3 nostalgic text chains with buddies on the closing going as we speak.

- The Cowboys Netflix doc is outstanding. And I loathe the Cowboys and 90% of the people featured.

-It wasn't good. It's ok, everyone takes an L. Not as bad as the Athens Bourbon. That was turpentine.

-When I ran I would "rawdog" it. Same when I go on bike rides. Best is when I get lost in thought and it's halfway done before I realize it. Not to mention the obvious safety benefit. Now when I walk, I typically listen to a podcast. Can't explain it.

-Steak n Shake is throwing haymakers and Cracker Barrell. I'm here for it.

-9 games SEC slate 😬 Grinding to 5 or 6 wins per year is gonna be brutal.

Vandy
Miss. State
Arkansas / Mizzou / SC (one of the 3)
Need the 3 weakest as possible. Still might only win 1/3, but better than a for sure 0/3 with UT / Georgia in the mix. SOS will not help UK if they never get bowl eligible.

I don't consult on marketing, but I sure as **** do on cost reduction. There's a playbook restaurants use to increase margins (and trick customers).
  • Reduce portion size
  • Swap to lower cost (and quality) ingredients
  • Eliminate SKUs (fewer options)
  • Optimize pricing (i.e., raise it)
  • Reduce staffing
In my opinion, Cracker Barrel has been rolling out this playbook for years. But it will catch up to you at some point because of competition. There are a ton more options for breakfast than there used to be.

Also, the store used to sell you nostalgic items. But it's the same crap they've always sold and it is mostly made in China, so it's not authentic at all. Plus you can buy it on Amazon for cheaper anyway.

This broad CEO didn't really address any of these issues. Nobody gives a **** about the logo. Everybody liked the interior of the restaurant. And she didn't want to address what I listed because this negatively impacts margins which she probably promised she'd hold steady.

This, btw, is a big problem with corporate and PE-run restaurants. The finance guys look at these levers, make the change, and don't realize the long-term impacts of them.

Kinda like accounting thinking that adding a credit fee to transactions will “save money” when you actually end up losing more money when you lose clients who don’t want to pay the fee and move to another vendor.

One last on on Cracker Barrel, I can't believe they had their CEO go on Good Morning America. Who's idea was that?
  1. She doesn't "look" like a CEO of Cracker Barrel. The brand would be better served having a good ole boy looking old guy or a Paula Dean type.
  2. If you still want to put the CEO out there, don't have her dress like she works at Vogue. Have her out there at least dressed like Paula Dean. And have her fake a southern accent or something.
  3. After the disaster, tell her to update her LinkedIn. Here are some of my favorite things on there.
    1. Board Member at Vivid Seats (everybody hates seat brokers)
    2. SVP / President of Mattel for 10 months (so she ditched them in less than a year)
    3. Assistant Buyer at J Crew (why the CEO of a company would include this is beyond me)
    4. 12 years at Starbucks. Starbucks and Cracker Barrel are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
So her idea was to change the brand of Cracker Barrel, but her personal brand is rich yuppie job hopper who is on the board of a company that people hate.

I always thought the Down Home logo looked like something a freshman design student would come up with.
Just knew a dude and his wife with 20 family member kids couldn’t fit in there, even though it looks like modern era Bullitt County. No Cajun Chicken Alfredo either.

Ranked by volume consumed, it is flavored club soda, coffee, fairlife shakes, water, kombucha, cocktail / beer, and occasional non-diet soda (preferably 7-Up or Sprite or Ale-8 from glass bottle).

In order of enjoyment it is probably bottled ice cold 7-Up, well-made mojito, coffee, peach or strawberry lemonade club soda from the can on ice in a steel cup, green bottle beer of any reasonably quality, well-made daiquiri, and a mineral water on ice with lime.

* Cracker Barrel food is ***. It is fine to meet old people or whatever but otherwise who cares.

* The story about the sheriff who shot the judge last summer is heating up. If these allegations are true, it still wouldn't excuse murder but what a wild story. It feels to me like the news just keeps getting weirder all the time. Maybe we just have so much more access now than we relied on newspapers and nightly news.

Wife mentioned me turning 44 this week, and I swore it was 45. She was right. #old #butnotasoldasithought

I feel confident in saying Cotton BBQ is the best in the state. I mean I haven't had them all of course, but most of the BBQ I've had in Ky, even from places that get buzz, are mid. It's all decent I guess. I do like Monroe County style. Cotton is the closest thing to the ridiculous Texas joints I've had outside of Texas. And you generally wait an hour or more for those if you're lucky enough to beat the sell out. Leftover brisket and sausage this morning with sweet potatoes, avocado and scrambled eggs, lil salsa 🔥 🔥 🔥

Who gives a **** about Cracker Barrel? Ig-no-ra-mooses, that's who.

Can you name more UK basketball or football players on this year's teams? Football for me, but not by much, and only because I've been actively trying to get acquainted and psyched up the last couple weeks. Tough ball to get rolling. I'm getting somewhere. I'm sure I'll be convinced we're going 7-5 before the Toledo kickoff.

Fall weather is knocking at the door. 🙌

I love ice-cold whole milk.

-Cracker Barrel dumplings and cornbread was a long time hangover staple for me. (Until I discovered coconut water.) I can’t tell you the last time I had it though.

-Water
Champagne/sparkling wine
Red wine
Coffee
Topo Chico

That’s basically the list. Also Grapefruit high noon on the boat or as a “responsible” reset when walking from the tailgate to the football game.

-I occasionally listen to KSR when running but often go without headphones so I can hear what’s going on around me. Definitely no headphones if I have the dog or kids with me.

-The almost 5 year old has finally gone 2 nights without his pacifier. It’s about time, kid.

- @BookerNoe ‘s kid has a mobile detailing service. I highly recommend.

Getting rid of both the Cracker and the barrel, it needs a name change. Maybe something like Cuck Bistro, Wearewokenow, or something more fitting.

Very rarely eat at The Barrel, but their fried chicken (can I still say that without offending ?, maybe Crisp Chicken), and Mac N Cheese are good.

As far as BBQ in the state, Smokey Pig's(BG) pork shoulder dipped is as good as it gets. Also have really good sides, Mac N Cheese, mashed potatoes (real potatoes with the skin), and baked beans are all solid. Very good sass for the meats.

My WKU Hilltoppers need to come out gunning Saturday, week 0 is a conference game (stupid scheduling IMO)

High school football kicks off tonight, lots of dread this year, BG Purples, the 5A Powerhouse, lost a LOT from the back to back champion teams. Trevy Barber is a dude, if he has a QB who can get it to him. Beast. South Warren moving up to 6A, they will never win another title.
