I think had this been decided earlier and it came down to UK/UF for Sumrall he’d have gone to UF anyway so it’s only in our minds we “missed out”.

Stoops needed to go. It’s happening and I’ll not have a single complaint.

Get a coach that can keep Boley, Patterson, Millers, Rodriguez and the rest can be sorted out. I don’t want Mumme ball, but I’ll be happy with something fun and exciting.

Too much anticipation on the coaching hire IMO with the real problem not being addressed. Good with either Stein or Hartline but the biggest problem is the rot inside the athletic department. A GM is more desperately needed than anything to keep Barnhart or his handpicked minion from causing any more damage to the program. Hoping the KSR suggestion of Champ Kelly coming home and taking this position becomes a reality.

That would be the stupidest, most Kentucky thing ever. Everyone involved with Kentucky football should be incarcerated for letting Sumrall get away.

Stoops should have been fired last year. We would now be talking about which bowl game we are attending in Sumrall’s first year, and how he stuck his foot up Brohm’s anus and the anus of that 17th string running back from Ashland or wherever.

Props to Mark Stoops, the unquestioned best Kentucky football coach of all-time and a legend. The last few years should not mar an otherwise legendary run. He turned us from a joke into a respectable SEC program. I hope after enough years pass, we bring him back for a huge tribute.

The way Barnhart handled this situation is as stupid as it could have been done. As cricket rightly pointed out, we let wins over lameducks Auburn and Florida cost us any chance whatsoever at Sumrall -- who should have been our coach last year.

That said, Barnhart made the right call yesterday, so kudos.

I do weirdly have faith that Barnhart will make a good hire. Of my many gripes, his ability to hire great coaches is not one. (I know about Joker and Gillespie -- I get it).

I'd be fine with Stein or Hartline and if they say no, Mullen or some up and comer seem like viable options, as well. Here's to Barnhart going and getting it done.

As was pointed out in the Lair thread, it appears to be an AI slop article from NBC Sports. Chip Kelly just got fired again and his track record as a college football coach (sans Oregon) seems to indicate that he's not a real candidate.

If Mitch attempted to hire him or Brian Kelly on the way out there would be a revolt. This fan base is a powder keg right now and I'm nearly positive Mitch knows that.

I don't blame Stoops at all for forcing Mitch's hand considering how much leverage he was given. I'm not happy with the state of our football program but I'm also not nearly as pissed at Stoops on his way out as I was at Cal. Working with us on the buyout will buy him some grace and allow the door to stay open for a reunion down the road (naming ceremony or some such).

Good luck Coach Stoops.

Good lord....the unquestioned most moronic statement ever. EVER.

Losing SEC record the last 4 years and 6 of the last 7 (25-68 overall) Continued lack of team discipline each year. Numerous coordinator changes. In game management was a clown show. 0-49 when trailing by 14 pts or more. Second half of the season collapses numerous times.

You better go look up the definition of legend.

I blame Stoops only for the fact he was the leader and allowed a mediocre product to happen. Before he agreed to go to A&M I think he handled this position about as well as I could ask.

Im not sure how any men would handle a divorce, losing their mom, and getting a job that’s thought to be elite and then having none of your team go with you. That’s an insane amount of life balled up in a 3 year span.

That said he clearly lost his coaching staff who somehow still landed players, to me, at an alarming clip with that much disfunction behind the scenes.

I appreciate his time here and will never have negative feelings toward him as I do believe he did his best in every situation down to the end.

I believe he loved this place and I look forward to the day the fans get to show him that.

I'm nearly positive he doesn't. Stoops would still be the coach if the BoT hadn't taken him to task yesterday.

No Kelly's, whether it be Chip, Brian or R.

My only issue with Hartline is that their offense seems very vanilla for the talent they have. That is probably by design. He may also be the next Penn St coach, so it may be moot.

New coach, new AD, new GM and 4 hoops games that mean something. It could be a great December or not.

If Mitch’s press release can be taken at its word, then it won’t be Hartline or Stein. He specifically said “someone with proven coaching results”.

I'd be more concerned if it said "proven head coaching results". All of the candidates are coaches.

Also, that kind of talk is just generic language when getting a statement out there.

Watching back the best Stoops moments video I saw this that I had never noticed before, Bowden signaling touchdown after he handed the ball off to Rodriguez on our own 37 yard line against Louisville.

Favorite Stoops wins:

-Beating LAMAR in Louisville
-Va Tech bowl game
-Beating Florida in the Swamp to break the streak

Get Stein or Hartline, bring 1/3 of those teams with them, and let's roll.

Pope probably glad he's not the centerpiece of this week's attention. Beat UNC. Something stinks with that line.

Brandon Garrison committed while Great Osobor was in Lexington, too.

I was being sarcastic.

I like it. First person to sign up let’s go! Needed this wrapped up quick and it’s done.

Keep who ya can, get the rest where ya can and let’s figure it out next season.

I couldn’t be happier to have football on the back burner for awhile.

The AD just needs to sit to the side and read his bible if necessary

I think we match up well with them and they'll be without their 2nd leading scorer Seth Trimble who was averaging 15 a game and was pre-season All-ACC 2nd team. Pretty much a 1 man show now and we'll more than likely have Mo back to put on that show.

When he's out it will be interesting to see who guards Wilson. It's be Garrison I'd think as you don't want Jelavic or Kam on him if you can avoid it.

Mags saying Stein-Hartline-Parker are the 3 primary candidates and announcement likely will come tomorrow.
