My two cents it seems like some of the JMI restrictions such as limited NIL to non-UK gear etc. I guess when the money is close against other schools, they are just advised to avoid us. Whether it matters long-term remains to be seen but of course we don't know anything about the surroundings of the deal and the AD is a poor communicator to be generous. I don't subscribe to the LHL but looks like they interviewed him on the topic this morning.

I don't believe that JQ dramatically improves this team's offensive woes and I fear we are headed for a rough Spring/summer year 3 becomes a pressure cooker. Of course, if JQ is a beast in the post then we can point to something, and it provides some real cover if we can make the tournament. Our season really hangs by a weak shoulder imo.

JQ won't singlehandedly solve our offensive woes, but a somewhat healthy Lowe might.

Give me Lowe, Oweh, Mo D and JQ and let the others figure out their roles or sit.

I don't either, so if someone will please post that, I'd appreciate it. I need to make sure I am armed with all available info.

Mark Story sent me a lengthy response last night, which I am still digesting. Best I can tell, there are several questions that he didn't answer. Although very knowledgeable, he probably wasn't the best person to start with on an investigative tack, but I've met him and have exchanged e-mail with him a few times over the years, so that's why I did.

Yes, we could really use Jerry Tipton right now. I didn't like most of what Jerry did in his long career, but damn sure he would be probing for answers right now with a jaundiced eye toward UK.

It's ironic - possibly the biggest whiff of scandal since the late 1980s, and we no longer have a journalist bulldog to rip into it; yet this time, the fans actually *want* an investigation.

Trying to figure out who to contact next. Probably the KSR guys and/or maybe the C-J.

Century, you may want to consider contacting someone at Kentucky Lantern. It’s a nonprofit, independent online paper based in Frankfort. A number of legitimate journalists including investigative reporters write for it (including former HL and CJ reporters who no longer have a place in the private equity “newspaper” business). www.kentuckylantern.com

Lowe, Chandler, Oweh, Mo D and JQ (on paper) seems like a lineup that could end up being a problem if it can gel. We need JQ in game shape, Lowe at close to 100% and each of those dudes playing 30+ minutes a game though, and Pope won't do that.

Can we just hire the firm UM did to investigate our athletic department while they're at it?

I "read" Fort Bragg Cartel on Audible recently. 🙌 (pretty messed up, though)
How's the narrator? I'm about done with The Spy and the Traitor: The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War and need something to go to next. I've found with audible I need a story and the voice has to match,

BTW, I need to remind King Llama that the Wax Pack book was disappointing af and I hated the author. What an annoying, whinny, weird, loser. (the author, no KL)

Just sent an e-mail to Mark Story, LHL.

Hi Mark, I hope you are doing well these days.

Today I am writing about my concerns for UK Athletics, UKAA and the UK Board of Trustees, and I’m wondering if you or one of your colleagues sees potential cause for an investigation.

Lately there’s been a lot of discussion about JMI’s role in the NIL process, and more particularly, JMI’s familial connections with the UK Athletic Department. In addition, the University just survived a contractual showdown with Mark Stoops, after he agreed to waive his right to be paid his entire contract within 60 days of termination.

These issues resolve around the nucleus of Mitch Barnhart and his staff, and the UK Board of Trustees. I think there are a number of questions that are begging answers:

-Did the UK Board of Trustees ratify Stoops’s contract with its absurd 60-day payout of his entire contract? That was an arrangement that seemed to be completely unique in the world of college sports. That provision alone hamstrung UK and limited its choices while Stoops was employed. UK has an entire Athletic Department, an entire legal department and a Board of Trustees – did anyone advocate for UK’s interests in negotiating the contract with Stoops? To me, the inclusion of the 60 day buyout was, at best, gross negligence by all those who agreed to it; perhaps worse. The 60 day payment period was completely untethered to industry standards. Barnhart and the BoT both need to be investigated for this. It would go a long way if a few Trustees would answer some of these questions.

-UK’s contract with JMI is troublesome for at least two reasons:

(1) as your colleagues have reported, the UK-JMI deal seems to be unique in that it limits NIL opportunities for student athletes, whereas other schools impose no such limitation.

-Did the BoT examine this arrangement?

-Did it ratify UK’s contract with JMI?

-Did the BoT consider whether the JMI contract puts UK at a competitive disadvantage against other schools?

-Since JMI’s primary duty is to maximize profits, is there not an inherent conflict of interest with the success of UK Athletics ? Obviously, the less that JMI has to pay student-athletes, the more money it makes.

-JMI has no direct interest in the success of UK’s athletic teams; its goal is to make money.

-Did anyone on the Board consider these issues?

(2) I understand that one of Barnhart’s top-ranking colleagues, Rachel Newman Baker, is married to Brandon Baker, a JMI Executive. This is patent nepotism and an inherent conflict of interest. Such matters can be overcome, provided that disclosure is made and examined by the governing Board, the BoT. Did the Board even review this relationship, and why and how did it conclude that the relationship is proper? The public deserves to know.

(3) A fifteen year contract with JMI seems much longer than industry standard. Has anyone questioned this? Why did Barnhart agree to such a long obligation? Again, did the Board review and approve it?

(4) Barnhart originally said in 2010 that he planned to retire within the next year. He’s hinted at it several times since then, but has now been AD for 23 years. Is there a reason he’s now so dug in? Whether or not there is actual impropriety, there certainly is the appearance of it. UK is a public university and the taxpayers deserve answers to these questions.

Thank you for indulging me. Whether or not the problem is impropriety or gross negligence, the public needs answers to these questions, and more. I sincerely hope that you and/or your colleagues search for answers to some of these questions.
Hit your boy up on any form of communication, that you've blocked me on, and we'll get you right as rain.

?? Anth, I haven't blocked you on anything (why would I block my good buddy from #1 HVAC company in America?). And I don't really do socials anyway.

I'm not sure what you mean. If you know the answers to some of those questions, I'll text or e-mail you.

I just e-mailed them and got a response back within 10 minutes. They say they've been discussing whether to wade into this topic and are considering it. They seemed to like the questions. 🙏

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hoss Cat showing back up is cool. Isn’t that the cat that knew all the current ins and outs of real mafia families? I always enjoyed those updates.

Speaking of which, Hoss, what you hearing from your Jersey people? Need an update.

GYERO never forgets. Working 3rd shift audit i can run down a couple, three things:

December 16th 2025 marked 40 years since John Gotti ended the reign of Big Paul Castellano and his UB Tommy Billotti bringing to a close the golden years of the Gambino Family.

Truth be told they're stronger than ever thanks to the Heroin trade. Italian Dom Cefalu is the Boss, Lorenzo Mannino is Street Boss/Underboss, and Lenny DiMaria is Consiglieri.

#Genovese are by far and away the strongest of the NY5, and still have Barney Bellomo in the big chair with Ernie Muscarella as his UB, and theyre insulated by longtime Bronx skippers Ralph "The Undertaker" Balsamo, Salvatore "Sally KO" Larka, Daniel "Danny" Pagano, and Michael "Hippy" Zanfordino. This family has 15 captains on the street and still hold plenty of sway in the Unions as do the Gambinos.

#Luccheses has Michal DeSantis is Acting but with Vic Amuso's blessing as 88yo Vic still has the final word from Club Fed. His son in law acts as the messenger. Peter "Petey Red" Della Russo is his acting UB

#Bonannos Michael "Mikey Nose" Mancuso is calling the shots.

#Colombos, Teddy Persico, jr, Carmine's(RIP) nephew is finally in a position to run the show. When he gets out of the halfway house of course. Well documented that this family is a shell of what it once was but the hope his Teddy can get what's left together to eventually be somewhat stable and viable again. I mean, they had no serious reach in the Chauncey Billups thing. Their only piece of the pie was they were partnered with the Bonannos in one or two of the gambling joints.
